You do know that she is holding a cricket bat, not an axe ...

Her bat is made of crickets?

Not sure if that's sarcasm or a serious question :P

Edit: not in the article but related Hot Rod does have a face it's easier to see in motion and on screen this is coming from someone who saw the 30 minute imax preview that had him in it and his accent is fine not awful but it is supposed to be cheesy.

I actually really like how he looks. He looks like an orange and black version of Bumblebee I drew in high school actually, and it works!

You guys know that Hot rod is meant to replace bumblebee, right. After this movie, bumblebee is torn up and will be missing in the next few tf movies, hence his own solo movie. Hot rod was originally meant to be in place of bumblebee. So expect more of him in future transformers movies

Hoping bay sees sense and either gets the lines redone by judd nelson or hot rod picks up judd's voice towards the end. Here's hoping.

More images of Hot Rod from the upcoming movie have surfaced via instagram. In this picture we can see Hot Rod's faceplate up close and personal. This image is actually from a series of motion character posters for the upcoming movie. If you would like to see more images of Hot Rod please check out this article.

We also have for you, a larger image from Entertainment Weekly's article. So you can get a better look at this big guy supposedly trying to befriend Laura Haddock's character. We don't think it's working very well, sorry Roddy!

Image

In the above mentioned article a passage explains more about Hot Rot and his relationships with other characters. It also tells us that his vehicular mode is a 1963 Citroën DS.

Alongside Mark Wahlberg’s salt-of-the-earth mechanic, Anthony Hopkins is joining the cast as Sir Edmund Burton, an astronomer who — with the help of Hot Rod — has tracked these long-forgotten connections to another scholar, Oxford professor of English literature Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock, who played Star-Lord’s mother in Guardians of the Galaxy).

She has no idea she harbors a genetic secret that could destroy (or save) the world. “[The humans] are empowered in a way that is very different than we’ve experienced before and honestly, it’s not easy figuring out how to empower the six foot human versus the 35- or 45-foot robot,” says producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

In the image here, Wembly comes face to face with the longtime friend she didn’t even know she had — the Autobot covert agent Hot Rod. She’s freaked out — and not planning to go quietly.

Hot Rod has secretly been serving as her protector in the guise of her father’s 1963 Citroën DS.

“It’s a rickety old thing, but she can’t part with it because she adores it,” Haddock says of the vintage vehicle. “This car has actually been put there to watch her and feedback information to Anthony Hopkins’s character about what she’s up to and her life. So yeah, she gets kind of taken [by surprise] in a really funny, dramatic way by this Hot Rod.”

The revelation also reshapes how she viewed her dad. “She’s not had a very good relationship with her father, but this is one thing that her father has done that makes her realize that maybe he cared than she thought.”

At least now we know why, he was originally a 1963 Citroën DS. So at least theres a theme kind of thing going on.

That's the point it's supposed to be cheesy Hot rod himself says he hates it but he can't help himself.

My mother liked his accent though and I'm fine with his voice personally.

I do remember him saying a line or two in a not French voice so I think he can talk "normal" too.

I like Hot Rod's robot mode, as much of it as I can see. I don't even mind the colors, though I wish there was more red and a lot less black. Also, I really don't like his alt mode, but considering his back story, it's acceptable. I just hope he does what Prime did in AoE and gets upgraded in the film.

I have been thinking something might happen to Optimus Prime and Roddy might become the new leader. When that happens they may paint him red after he gets upgrades.

Hey guys, there's a red Optimus Prime statuette in with those TLK statues at Thailand comic-con. Think we'll see this red Optimus in the movie?

Now that I think about it, it looks like she's holding a broadsword. At first I had assumed Hot Rod was handing her a flower and she was hitting it with a sword because she was not willing to accept it. Though the way he is crouched could suggest he is holding a broom or something so she can learn to use the sword. Not many flowers are that big. So unless he is giving her a sunflower, he is helping her train to fight.

She's holding a polo stick. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/252145782 ... -l1000.jpg

If my memory served me correct, Hot Rod basically kidnapped her and brought her to the castle. When he gets there he transforms, and Vivian Wembley falls out of the car and basically is wailing a polo stick at him.

It's prob going to be a one liner, like when he received the matrix from the 86 movie, "Optimus." Just with the French accent. Damn, imagine that.

Judging from the footage I saw, there's no reason to believe this Hot Rod has any path toward being the leader of the Autobots. If anything Bumblebee is in charge, and when he and Cade leave for England, Bee leaves Crosshairs in charge of the group (that's where you see the clip in the trailer where he says "So don't expect any bedtime stories", and prior to that line, he says something along the lines of "Okay missie now I'm in charge... )

Anyway knowing Bay's track record, he just name slaps Hasbro character names on whomever he pleases.

He's not the one who gives them their names either.

You must really hate Rid Grimlock (both of them), Animated Prowl, most characters from the Unicron trilogy, and Prime Arcee and Prime Starscream.

Well, let's look at the several names in his movies vs the toys.

Tank Decepticon = Devastator (Movie) / Brawl (Toy)
Autobot Scientist = Que (Movie) / Wheeljack (Toy)
Dinobot = Spike (Movie) / Scorn (Toy)

Either him or his writers are making the name changes here, not Hasbro (at least initially for the first movie since they had total control - not sure how much control he has now).

In regards to the hate for Rid Grimlock, if you're referring to the 2001 Grimlock then, yes, that will always be Build Hurricane in my eyes. Grimlock was a total name slap and Saban should be shot for doing a horrible translation / dub of Car Robots.

As far as the other series go, it depends on how the characters are portrayed on-screen.

The Devastator thing was a mistake and an old concept name for Brawl that Bay wanted left in the movie because it sounded cooler then Brawl he is still officially Brawl in everything else and to be fair movie Brawl is a lot like G1 Brawl as well there is no denying it.

Que was always meant to be a name that Wheeljack used and unlike Dino both names count as seen in the credits of the movie where he is credited as Que/Wheeljack.

Spike is not Scorn's name at all not even in concept art it's only a nickname that Crosshiars gave him for example Scorn is still called that in his TF 5 toys.

You do know plenty of the names come after the vehicles have been picked and concept art's been made which is why plenty of Autobots who make their debuts have their names barley mentioned by humans for example Crosshairs was called Slingshot early on and hey their personalities are pretty similar.

And somebody being shot for giving a character a name wow that's gold there dude and really shows why the fans should just be ignored and never pandered to and I was referring to both Rid Grimlocks the old and new one and to be fair even the first rid Grimlock has a resemblance to the old one.

Think of "name slaps" as being separate characters with same names are you upset when another human is named sam or steve or joe in other movies?

Also Hasbro has plenty of control they send Bay the names to use which either end up used or not.

Prime and Bee may have done it on screen, but it seems that Hound, Drift, Megatron and others also rescan between movies. You'll be happy to know that while Hot Rod may be undercover as the Citroen DS, you can expect him to rescan as the Lamborghini Centenario, possibly to lend aid to his brother-in-arms in that London chase.

I actually feel better about Hot Rod's face having seen the close up pic. It looks more like a face than a faceplate.

My mind can't decide if the optics are cute or creepy though.

Ooooh I hope so, that's a beautiful car. And the orange and black scheme matches as well. Thanks for the pic. Maybe it'll be like it was in the 1st film where Mikaela insulted Bee for being a "piece of crap Camaro" so he turned into a more modern piece of crap Camaro and in TLK Wembly does the same to Hot Rod, even though technically the Citroen was her father's car and she kept it for sentimental reasons. Except the Lamborghini is not a piece of crap.
