Your Favorite Underated Figure

so who out there has a beloved figure they think never really got the recognition (you think) it deserves? i recently got botcon 2014's apelinq, based on the best wars 10th anniversary optimus primal (new mold). the mold isnt new to me, and i loved it then as i do now. but the recent acquirement brings me back. i recall this figure suffering a lot of scrutiny, being heralded as amazing before revealed then not living up to the hype afterwords.

he might have awkward joints and gorilla arms in bot mode (fitting though right? lol) but he can pull off some awesome poses. because of those arms and hands i like to picture this version of primal having the same powers as BM primal, where he can absorb energy blasts and return it tenfold. i took some pics! (maybe too many, sorry lol)

I've always had a soft spot for the battle begins Optimus Prime Animated figure. Despite his stupid twist gimmick, I had a lot of fun with him. Others include Energon Divebomb, god I love this figure as well, just for the wings. I want more of him to build an army.

Leader Class DoTM Sentinel Prime. I know it's not well liked due to the difficult transformation and the panels in truck mode being a pain in the ass. They are for me as well, but I rarely have him in truck mode. In robot mode he's top heavy and hard to pose, but he is a tall, bulky figure, and a very good representation of the onscreen character. However, once you get a good pose, he is very visually appealing on a shelf, which is the reason I collect TFs. To display them. It's probably my 2nd favorite movie figure, after RoTF Leader Class Optimus Prime. I even took the big red cannon from Lunar Fire Optimus and gave it to Sentinel. It fits him rather well.

hmmmmm, I have a few.

-Universe Ironhide/Ratchet, I personally really like that mold.

-iGear UFO, seem to have fallen out of favor since the most recent Cosmos release, I still think UFO is the best representation of that character to date.

-BTS Optimus Prime trailer, overshadowed buy the shinier Fansproject trailer, but I still feel that the BTS version fits Classics prime better, and that Roller gimmick is inspired.

Couple off the top of my head...

Beast Wars Optimus Minor: Yes, he transformation is more or less flipping him over, but he's highly articulate in both modes and does have a fair bit of personality, and the arm splitting gimmick is unique. Also, he's one of the featured bots in the IDW Beast Wars mini-series.

DOTM Crankcase: I'm not overly fond of the transformation, but I adore the robot mode. He has a very Predator/alien hunter look to him, with several articulation points, and I like how the gun looks pegged in despite not being held hand held. Definitely a good figure despite having next to no character or screen time in the movie.

As I just talked about in another thread (click here), my vote goes for "Classics" Galvatron. Check out that link for my reasons why. :)

On top of my head, I have two. First, it's Movie 2007 Voyager Starscream.
Yeah, the mold make for a totally not accurate robot and the jet mode suffer from MASSIVE undercarriage. Furthermore, his missiles launchers that replace his hands tend to shoot missiles all over the place when you look at them funny.

Why do I LOVE this mold? I find it's still nice looking and the transformation is wicked fun! Especially the auto-morphing chest. Plus, his bulky proportions inspired me my first ever complex custom. (Click on "Apetimus Supreme" in my sig!).

Second, it's Beast Machine deluxe Optimus Primal. He's not show accurate at all but he got a nice robot mode and a very intimidating gorrilla mode. Plus, his gimmicks and transformation are fun. He also... ahem... "evolved" into Apetimus Supreme at some point. Luckily, I found it back at a flea market for cheap recently!

The one that immediately comes to mind is Cybertron Armorhide, the scout-class semi truck. I don't know why, but I really love it.

I do hope you're not talking about HFTD scout Breacher because the guy is heralded as one of the best scout toy ever.

Classics Universe Silverbolt. Lots of hate was piled on that guy. I love him. Simple, intuitive (obvious) transformation, funky G1 colors, huge, and has a cool looking alt mode.

I also have to agree with the love of the BTS trailer. I feel that the look of that trailer fits in better with the Classics Prime mold very well. The other one looks like a G1 trailer.

I agree with both! I bought Uni Silverbolt on a whim, was initially disappointed with the simplicity of it, but have grown to love it. I also love my BTS trailer. Unfolded, it makes a great "stage" for displaying figures.

Here are two figures from the 2007 Movie line that are among my favorite figures and which I think deserve more respect and recognition:

the first movie starscream has a special spot in my heart. in the movie, he was fearsome and deadly, and only had a couple of lines. next movies they turned him back into the sycophant that his G1 self was. back to the toy though, id suggest everyone get the deep space starscream. he was a target exclusive i think, but essentially was the "premium" version of the mold (remember the first movie premiums?). it looked amazing. sure its got limitations, but i loved it. ive never wanted another movie ss until the lost age deluxe, but im still on the fence.

BM deluxe primal... i tolerated it. im one of the few BM fans out there, but i was pretty dissappointed. especially the bot mode. monkey was awesome though with the angry face thing and chest opening/flexing thing (and seeing his spark). blast punch primal (even with his limitations) blew my mind. didnt get him till years later though.

Here's one from a bit ago, because it's so current:

Cybertron Undermine and Repugnus.

I have all three versions, including Galaxy Force Dino Shout, and he's the prime underdog mold of the Cybertron line. Mold issues aside, I could see Hasbro actually using him as Scorn.

Another one "everyone" hate but I love:

Cybertron scout Backstop and it's superior repaint. I just love how he look and his simple but fun transformation. He's also a funny bot with his head under his shoulders, his crab-walk, and his big-ass claw-hand. Also lol his special weapon, unmoving on his shoulder's side!

I really love fiddling with it. I have the original on display at work, and his repaint twice. One on my shelf and one sealed just because.

Can't state enough times how I love the Classics Voyager Leader molds, which may not be underrated per say, but given how most collectors around here tend to replace both of them with those made by failworld toyworld, I do get the sense that they are really unpopular. Megatron I can understand, the wings and nerf gun transformation are off-putting at first glance, but to me the wings at least add a certain flare to an otherwise straightforward and predictable body shape, not to mention a face that doesn't look like an incontinent old man. Same goes for Classics Prime in most respects. The arm panels I think really add to the silhouette, and give a certain vibe toward his tough but defensive nature. Between Hegemon being about as boring looking as Megatron has ever been and Orion being a fat disproportionate mess, topped off with how undeniably crap the recently revealed Generations figures are, I think those two molds will be standing at the forefront of my collection for a long time to come.

CLASSICS VOYAGERS 4EVER!

Never heard rave about him...

It's too bad they didn't keep that Arcee design for ROTF. It was a lot more visually appealing than what we ultimately got. I know they were going for something more "different" and "alien" with the unicycle bots, but...I don't think they had the impact they were looking for.

Deep Space Star Scream is my definitive Starscream for my Movie-verse display. He's IS supposed to be one of the more massive Decepticons, right up there with Megatron and The Fallen. Plus, I never liked the tattoo pattern from ROTF and DOTM. The Movie Advanced deluxe DOTM repaint with 2007 Movie deco is tempting, but he'd be way too small compared to Battle Blades Optimus Prime and even DOTM voyager Megatron.

I have that mold 3 times officially. The regular one, the G1 colored with hobgoblin head, and the Depp Space one. That last one is truly a premium version and is amazing looking. However, mine cannot have his nosecone to properly peg in place for the jet mode. Mold degradation it seem. Still, he's front and center to my movieverse screamers shelf.

I already talked about how perfect that body is for custom and used one for Apetimus Supreme. Now, I have a second custom coming using that body as well!

Really strange because for a while, whennever a top 10 list of the most fun and perfect TF came out, Breacher was always in it. When he was still in store and some new TF collector asked which toys to buy, everyone always mentionned Breacher. He'S also the perfect sidekick for HFTD Voyager Seaspray.

Movie Dropkick gets my vote, chicken legs and all. Something about that mold makes me smile. Great colors, garish Decepticon symbol and cool head sculpt.
