Brawl looks really nice but I still love the leader version of him, I'll have to pass. Megatron looks nice but super plain paint-wise.

Yeah, Prime's probably had enough by that point of the timeline with the trauma of having had so many close friends killed (some by his own beloved mentor figure, Sentinel) anyways and perhaps is what helped Quintessa turn him into Nemesis since his own resolve had been worn down so much. Maybe I just find him more relatable that way instead of a the optimist (heh) he was moreso in the cartoon (which he can afford to be in that Saturday Morning Cartoon land where nobody dies)

As a kid I had just assumed that part in the 1986 animated film where he turns up and starts blasting Decepticons was the same sorta actual warrior thing that so rarely appeared in the show or comics. I can't imagine he was simply trying to just wound them (even if some of them appeared later on just fine). He was certainly fighting Megatron to the bitter end.

I dunno. Maybe the "I'll kill you" line is a bit strong and strange but I'd rather that than the mopey Prime in some of the later Marvel stories. At least movie Prime gets the job done. No point him having all those cool guns and swords if not gonna use them properly to save us all from being wiped out by properly evil Decepticons. :)

that's just the way my weird low-intelligence mind perceives things anyway. Gimme more toys.:D

I figured that Optimus Prime was just handling the Dinobots on their level: the strongest leads and calls the shots. He had to prove he was the alpha to the pack, essentially. I thought it was a nice callback to the original Dinobots' personalities, particularly Grimlock's, of being brutish and strength obsessed. He constantly challenged Prime's leadership, supposing him to be weak and therefore not worthy of command. Of course, a few throw-away lines in the movie might have helped clarify this whole interaction between Prime and the Dinobots, but meh, dialogue isn't Michael Bay's strong point in movies. I think the "let them fight" line was meant to give us a hint as to what was going on, though. Long story short: I think Prime was just fronting with Grimlock, not giving in to bloodlust.

Well by no mean are these the "Black Series" of movie figures, I suppose that would be the Movie Masterpieces, out of the few I've gotten I have to say I find them all super fun! They're all pretty decent movie generations figure, and all things conaidered i feel like theyre all different enough from their original counterparts it's worth the second buy. Blackout especially, not necessarily for scale, but because it's world's apart from the 07 version. The 07 blackout used engineering and aesthetic qualities from the cybertron era, while leader blackout feels closer to something that would be at home with the ROTF toyline.

Does anyone know if the trailer for the deluxe DoTM Prime fits Studio Series Prime since he's barely bigger in truck mode?

That would be fun to know because that trailer was grossly oversized for a deluxe.

Hey, these finally hit a store in my area! A Target in Aurora, Colorado. Someone had already grabbed the leader Grimlock, and there was only one voyager Prime and one voyager Starscream. I grabbed the leader Blackout and a deluxe Crowbar (was funny seeing him on the shelf when there's still tons of Berserkers/Crankcases warming pegs). Might grab a Stinger if he's still there next time I go back, don't really need any of the others since I already have other versions of them.

That's the one. I used to own it but I got rid of it along many others in my great "local geek store" purge.

I also NEVER saw any Studio Series figures in store so that certainly won't help.

That's some stock photography excellence, Hasbro!

On another note, I received my Movie Advanced Revenge Optimus Prime earlier today. Wow, I forgot just how completely frustrating that figure is to transform. The sliders for the truck hood like to pop out of the arms. The windshield pieces like to pop out of their ball joints. Everything is a bitch to line up properly and snap in place. It took me almost 45 minutes to get the head tucked in all the way to get the arms to come together to form the nose of the truck cab. Then transforming back into robot mode, it takes supreme effort to get the head back out again. Don't even get me started on the Matrix of Leadership that doesn't snap at all securely onto it's peg in the chest. But damn, Optimus Prime sure looks gorgeous for a Voyager sized figure. I've not taken any pictures yet, for anyone curious, but the Battle Blades Optimus Prime mold is still just a hair shorter than Studio Series Starscream, so the scaling isn't thrown completely out of whack if you want to use a version of this Optimus Prime mold in your "premium" display instead of the new Studio Series version.

The official social media accounts for Transformers have shared another short clip collecting three images of the process behind the Studio Series figure for Leader class Grimlock - much like we saw for Blackout last him, right here.

What we get to see are the Dinobot leader's schematics, prototype figure and final retail version stock images, for both Tyrannosaurus Rex (vaguely) mode and robot mode, and we've embedded the clip below for you to view. Take a look, and let us know what you think! Did you pick one up? Is it on your list? Join the conversation in the Energon Pub!

We have some more news for you hailing from the Transformers Studio Series toyline - specifically, the Optimus Prime figure in Voyager size class. According to site owner Seibertron, there appears to be a variant of the mold out at retail with some more accurately translucent orange 'battle blades' as seen in the fight scenes in the Transformers live action movies, especially with Revenge of the Fallen.

In Seibertron's words:

Original wave has a less translucent orange blade (73461) while second release has a much more translucent blade (80171). Those codes are the stamped codes found on back of box.

Take a look at your own Autobot leader, and let us know which version you have! Are you more interested in either of the two variants? Is this enough to make you double-dip? Join the conversation in the Energon Pub, and share your thoughts.

Here's the height comparison shot of Takara Movie Advanced Revenge Optimus Prime and Hasbro Studio Series Starscream, for anyone interested. They're much closer to the same height, with Starscream being almost a head taller still, but it's fine with me. It doesn't seem to throw off the scale of the Studio Series that much, in my opinion.

Edited: I included a better comparison picture than originally posted.

Transformers Studio Series Thundercracker Listed on Entertainment Earth

There has been some uncertainty around the Studio Series Voyager-class Thundercracker, up until now an exclusive to the slowly-dying Toys R Us chain of stores. Luckily for those who have been unable to find him so far and fear they might not do so before TRU shuts its doors for good, Entertainment Earth has added a listing to their website for this very figure!

The pre-order listing states Thundercracker will be available from their site some time in July (between one and two months from now), and is listed at $29.99 - the same price as Toys R Us charges (or was charging, prior to the slowly-creeping clearance discounts) - it's interesting to note, though, that he is still listed on Entertainment Earth as a "Toys R Us Exclusive". If you want that extra bit of security over hunting for him in stores, why not give the listing a look?

Are you still looking for Thundercracker? Or if you've found him, what do you think of the figure? Let us know your thoughts by posting in the Energon Pub forums!

Actually, I think the less transparent version is more accurate

I mean... in the movie, they glow, and if the light catches it right, clear plastic looks like it's glowing. So I'm going with the clear variant for 'accuracy' (if I cared about it enough, that is). :-P

Nice surprise, but not totally shocking. Entertainment Earth has/had some sort of relationship with TRU as in years past they've hosted their exclusives at the EE booth at SDCC ahead of their American releases.

No double dipping until there's a variant with brighter colors and/or a mouthplate-less face.

I actually prefer the mouthplated face (if there isn't a face-changing option) but I'm with you on the brighter colors. That won't be enough for me to pick up Studio Series Optimus Prime, though. It really needs better paint detail overall. There are so few flames on the whole figure compared to past iterations, they don't include the nice orange to red fade on the red parts of the truck, and they didn't even paint the side pieces on the outsides of the windshield "pectorals" the right color. They should be blue, not red! For a $30 USD price tag and a smaller than average voyager sized figure, I expect a LOT more effort in the deco department. It's a shame too, because the transformation looks interesting and the sculpt is pretty good overall.
