Hi all, this is my very first attempt at a Transformer scratch build, paint or modification. Now I am hooked! I have always had a lot of respect for those who spend big money on these 'not that cheap' toys then mod them and make them look like they are worth a million times more. Great work and there are some heavily skilled fans out there.
This Optimus Prime is the oversize KO version of the toy with a 1:24th Peterbilt 379 and lots of other model parts and plasticard to make up the short falls. Very much influenced by the awesome Encline Designs version I feel it falls a little short but makes a nice statue to have in the collection. It is poseable and has the lights in the eyes and body. He has the sound chip from a leader class movie one toy too. I will admit the flames are terrible and the head nothing like the movie version but there are many good qualities it has for now. Given limited time and budget it hasn't turned out bad and when viewed through the display case and not subjected to ultra-close inspection he looks great.
I have seen so much good stuff over the years and needed to give something back to the fans.
Thanks for looking. I now plan a much larger and in the same scale Grimlock as soon as I get to see the movie version of him for 2014. Maybe I could do a G1/Fall of Cybertron inspired cross over in the mean time? Hmmmmm.
A good few hours and some plastic snipping and painting later I have modified my 18" Optimus Prime to be a little more movie accurate, have removable and correctly handed swords, new flame paint job (shakey handed attempt!), various damage added and overall a better looking model with more details.
Damn glad I took the advice of making those swords removable as they work great. Quick snap in connection with simple tabs.
Enjoy. Thanks for looking.
Time to move onto my War for Cybertron Optimus now
I wish I could make a living from doing this, I love it
Need to get good.
I've wanted to try just some simple painting but I don't even know where to begin. However, I am going with my first ever repaint for my fantasy football league this year. I plan on taking a FOC Optimus and painting him gold, then mounting him in a "Heisman" pose for the trophy this year...LOL
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.
