So here we go, the final entry. This list has been a lot of fun to write and sometimes a lot of hard work too. But it's been great fun. I've received a lot of support and a lot of friendly criticism and thankfully no strong opposition. It's been a good ride.
I don't know if people will agree with entry number 1 but to me it's a total no-brainer. If I were a transforming robot I know what my first choice for an Alt mode would be. When it comes to speed, sexiness, class...there's only one choice.
If there's any music that makes you think of scorching rubber and roads blurring by, now is the right time to put it on.
#1: Lamborghinis
Ah, Google Image Search.
Lamborghinis. Those sexy lines, those hexagonal windshields, those saucy spoilers. Those little black triangular things on the sides. Gotta love them.
"You know the difference between you and me? I make this look
good."
Pretty much all of Transformers can be traced back to good ol' Bob Budiansky. Sure the Japanese had been making transforming robot toys for decades and Hasbro were the ones who saw that those robot toys were worth their weight in gold but it was Uncle Bob who named the characters and breathed life into them. He gave them an origin (I personally prefer Budiansky's evolutionary theory to Sunbow's creationism and Furman's fantasy light-god bollocks) and an introduction that would be retold in a million ways.
One of the upshots of Bob's total responsibility over the franchise's early years is that he could do whatever he wanted, few questions asked. If he wanted to give everyone English-based names but give the good guy leader a Latin name and the bad leader a Greek one no-one minded. If he wanted to invent a laser that is a musket that shoots acid it was all good. And if he felt that two characters with the same Alt mode should be brothers that's all good. He never even needed to explain what being brothers means for Cybertronians.
"Oh brother, where art th...oh, there you are."
Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were the bad boys of the Autobot cause. While Sideswipe was just a typical jock with a strong fighting spirit (BURNING JUSTICE optional) Sunstreaker was a vainglorious sociopath. This varied from the cartoon where he was just a little concerned about his own paintjob to the UK comics where he was blithely unconcerned about leading humans into danger to later comics and Mosaics where he's a raging ball of hate.
One thing that's definitely clear about this duo is that in the cartoon Prime clearly had a lot of faith in these guys. When Trailbreaker was ambushed by Seekers Prime sent these two as a task force to escort him and the token humans back to base.

Most popular bastard ever.
The Sunstreaker mold has sadly been lost to the ages which is a shame as it's a good 'un by 1984 standards. Although I prefer the Countach minus the big rear engine this is a very sexy car and his robot mode has modest arm articulation and not entirely tragic proportions. He has neat shooty fist missiles too!

Spike chose a Volkswagen over this.
Sideswipe has the cleaner, sexier car mode. Plus his robot mode isn't too bad despite the massive chest. Thankfully this guy isn't too hard to get nowadays thanks to his bookbox release. Ehobby thinks that Sideswipe is actually lots of other previously unseen G1 characters if he changes his colours.
"WOOWOOWOOWOOWOOWOOWOOWOO!"
Although Sunstreaker never got officially repainted to the best of my knowledge Sideswipe kept getting re-used. The first usage used the Lamborghini-with-sirens mold from Diaclone as a firefighting Lamborghini (I have never wanted to be a firefighter so much). Red Alert oddly wasn't Sidey and Sunny's long lost brother despite the mold sharage although I'm sure fanfic writers could string a good yarn out of this one. Red Alert was an-insecure-to-the-point-of-paranoia security officer. Later on the role of security officer was taken by the senile and irrelevant Kup. No wonder Cybertron got nabbed by the 'Cons.

“Let's see...Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Red Alert, Breakdown, Punch...where's Freewheeler?”
As part of the Universe line a mold was released intended for both Sunstreaker and Sideswipe. Rather than being a straight repaint the figure had a chest for a back and vice versa. By swapping the arms and using a different head Hasbro were able to get two faintly different looking robot modes from one mold.
I'm not the biggest fan of this mold with its awkward shoulders, unsatisfying transformation and limp weapons but I know a lot of people like it so I won't bash it too hard. It does have some cute features though. Sunstreaker has “WE R 84” written on his license plate which is a nice reference to 1984 and sort of makes sense if you squint. Universe Sideswipe has “SWIPE” written on his while Henkei Lambor has, well, “LAMBOR”
Needless to say that wasn't the end for this mold. Possibly as an apology to Japan for having to wait over a year to get the Classics molds Takara produced a Japan only figure: Alert. This was probably the best iteration of the mold with nice colours, a cool looking weapon and a license reading “ALERT”. Also in the near future a version of Punch/Counterpunch using this mold will be released by the Club and a future BotCOn figure will also use it. Good luck collecting them all!

“I'm on a LIST?!? What list?! Where?!”
The coolest of the Stunticons is Breakdown. Where his teammates are angry brutes Breakdown is a quieter and more thoughful sort. The reason for this quietness is that Breakdown is the paranoid sort, always worried that someone is out to get him. So...two of the Lamborghinis are paranoid? Must be a CONSPIRACY. Breakdown was also one of the later Transformers to have an explicit superpower; the ability to cause machines to break down. It sounds a little limited but in the cartoon he managed to bust out of jail with it.
Oddly his cartoon model and later figures were coloured white and navy but his original figure was more of an off-white, bleached bone kind of colour. Why can't the Stunticons ever keep their original colours?

“B-R-E-A-K-D...no, E-A! E-A! All the spellcheckers are AGAINST ME!”
Brakedown from the ROTF line is a clear homage to G1 Breakdown. His car mode is a little chunky , he has no weapons and well, the name but I'm the last person in the world to question a brand new mold for a modestly obscure character.
For G2 Breakdown was produced but never received an official release. Given his distinctly nineties' paintjob this may have been for the best. He was released in a very limited number during BotCon and to celebrate the next BotCon set will feature the Universe Lamborghini mold redecoed as G2 Breaky.

“From North America, Wheeler with the power of fire.”
Freewheeler or Free Wheeler is a cute Countach micromaster. He's not very famous sadly.

Law of Lamborghini: all small Lamborghinis must be yellow.
Neo-wheel was part of the Sixturbo team of combiners. He was later rereleased as one of the Universe Protectobots. He looks uncannily like Freewheeler. Weird.
Flash of the Turbomasters is a neat homage to the Datsuns of 1984 with his crest, bonnet boob and door wings. He has a neat bird decal on his chest and a fantastic turbine cannon. This guy was never released in America (hah!) but he's well worth tracking down.

“FLAME ON!”
Laster was an excellent figure who could merge with his teammates to form the powerful Road King. His Euro rerelease, Flame, lacked the combiner kibble but did have a rather substantial braininess stat.
Similarly Firecracker of the Spychangers is a Lambo with a couple of repaints. He's kinda cool but not as good as the mold with the exposed engine. Love that guy.
The emergency services get all the best cars.
Prowl from RiD is one of my favourite deluxe size figures. His Lamborghini mode looks incredible and has attachable rocket boosters. His robot mode is supremely cool too with a well-detailed chest, groovy thigh armour, big ol' shoulders and a shield on one arm and a pair of flamethrowers on the other. Despite his obvious awesomeness he was stuck with a stick-in-the-mud personality in the cartoon. He also got repainted as...wait for it...Sunstreaker and Sideswipe. And, um, Inferno.

Bumbleplug.
When Armada Prime was released he came with a minicon with the name of a G1 token human, the colour and relationship with Prime of Bumblebee and a cool car mode. He's a pretty cheap feeling Minicon though.
Well that's it for Lamborghinis and for the list. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have and I look forward to reading everyone's future comments and Honourable Mentions.
SILENCE! There's much to do. We will attack other threads, we will suck them dry, we will rebuild the threads twenty-six times more powerful than Cybertron! And I will rule the galaxy!
