Hold on a sec bro...

cool.
Alright. Check it out.
Microman was a 3 inch tall race of aliens who came from outer space and "used your desk as base", as it read on the awesomely badly translated Microman packaging. One of their schticks was that they could hide there tech in everyday earth objects. Hence, cassette tapes that turned into helicopters, or tape decks, microscopes, and hand guns that turned into robot sentinel.
Ok, so Takara made what we knew as kids as Penny Racers. they were imported over here by somebody, maybe Hasbro? I don't know what they were called in Japan. Maybe Q? But the G1 mini bots came from the Microman toy line and they were robot sentinels disguised as everyday Earth toys. They were specifically designed in that SD car aesthetic to look like the Penny Racer toys. Bee and Cliff even have an approximation of the penny slot in the back, that is the plate that there heads are on.
Soooooooooooooo, the G1 mini bots WERE Penny Racers!
Now, Q was an evolution of the Penny Racer toys, whatever they were called, made by Takara.
they got there names from the pattern their little pull engines caused them to drive in. You would pull them back and they would drive in a big circle, then, right at the end, they would get this little burst of power and do a tight little 360 loopty loo, creating the little curly tail of the "Q". Q went on for years, and got all kinds of different cars and robots with those little pull back motors in them. I had/have some from the 80's that were from a popular robot series called Dugram, and they sort of "transformed".
So Q is an old line mostly focusing on cute little super deformed cars. And this new line is just an extension of that, but minus the pull engine, and plus way better transformations.
Was that interesting? Are you glad you know that?
Want another hit off this light pipe?

P.S. Thanks for the inspirato for my new sig.
