Transformers Workshop (Maintenance & Repair)

If the material can be easily bent at room temperature (like rubber), applying any source of heat then, after bending it to the correct shape, "shocking" it with really cold water will do the trick. However, be careful with the temperature. Hot water, but not boiling hot, will do just fine. I've read somewhere that applying too much heat will discolor the part.

Re: Transformers Workshop (Maintenance & Repair)
Hi everyone, does anybody know how I can tighten Fall of Cybertron Sidewipe's ratchet joints for his limbs? All his joints have loosened and it's difficult for him to stand with his path blaster. His right elbow is already very loose (obviously from the weight of the path blaster), and his right knee joint is also very loose, making it a little difficult to pose him. Basically, how do I tighten a ratchet joint?

Hey, anybody have a fix for CW Superion's antennae? They want to sit slightly akimbo backwards. I see that Ryan was able to get them to point straight up for his galleries. I'm betting I missed a comment somewhere in those threads, but they are now huge monsters.
Thanks in advance!

What worked for me was to loosen the screw at the back of his head, I loosened mine about half way, and the antenna are now straight.

Mirage was my very first Transformer. Good news is that this is not that one. The OG lives safely with my brother's collection. This one, on the other hand, decided to do a nose dive of the shelf a few years back. Finally got around to fixing him.

The peg that connected his waist snapped clean off.

I removed these two screws which separates the two halves of his waist/hips.

The break left a nice little divot perfectly centered in the bottom of the torso. First i used a push pin to make a little ding, centered in that divot. Then I took the point of an Exacto knife blade and spun it around in that ding to make a bigger pilot hole.
Than with a drill and a small bit, I honed out the hole. First by drilling the hole clean through, then rotating the figure around the spinning bit to hone it more. I kept doing this until I felt the hole was smaller than the screw, but big enough that the threads had some meat to dig into, but not stress and crack the plastic. I did the same on the hole in the torso so it could spin freely on the screw's threads.

I used a screw to replace the broken peg. This one was 3/4 in. long and the thread diameter was just bigger than the hole.

Using the pelvis half as a stop, I screwed the screw in until there was enough space to hold the to halves of the figure together, and left a little space so it wouldn't be too tight. Then reassembled him until he was whole again.
Whammo! Now he transforms just fine, and can get back in the action.

I've got a very loose chest section ( the part which holds the arm, but swivels around) on my G1 Mindwipe. I've tried nail polish, floor polish, etc, but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, finally making the plunge into Masterpiece figures, and I'm wondering if there are any tips out there for preventing MP-10's rubber tyres from cracking?

Look up "rubber care stick". It's actually for cars but it works just as well on toy rubber.

Would this do the trick Delta? How often would you say I would need to apply it?

That's the product. Not sure how regularly you'd need to apply it- I'd say every month or so.

You may not need to go quite that often. I used to work for a company that sold rubber revitalizer. I think our instructions talked about annual application (and this was probably more often than needed to help us sell more. You know how this stuff is. /cynicism) It probably depends on how dry the air is, if the rubber is exposed to sunlight (UV radiation is the biggest culprit, IIRC), and temperature changes.
I have a G1 Jazz that has been well played with. one tire is cracked and about ready to come off. The other three are still pretty decent, with no visible cracking.
Perhaps there is a site out there that talks about rubber care. This product appears to be targeted to gasket seals in automotive applications, where UV exposure and Temperature changes are the greatest. A search of some automotive forums will probably provide the highest frequency of application, and you could go from there. (I don't know if over-applying a treatment will be damaging. It sometimes is...)

Great advice guys, thanks. Just as an aside, I have the Leader Prime from the 1st Movie line which also has rubber tyres, now I've had him from new and his tyres have shown no obvious signs of cracking, does MP-10 use the same rubber or is it a different compound?

I just bought Voyager Generations (FOC) Soundwave with all his minidisks and that launcher mechanic is not working at all. I have a really tough time even fitting the disks in and making him release them without exerting an insnae amount of pressure. I heard you could sand a part of it and it could work wonders but I dont know where. Does anyone know a link with an explanation to how to ameliorate the launching mechanic? Or could you tell me how to improve it?

I have a damaged G1 Clench that needs fixing. The shoulder which has half the front of the truck as a broken screw, which means it falls off - I can't find any broken plastic and he displays well - but I'd really like to know how to open up the arm and replace the screw.

On mine you have to put the disks in the 'right' way. Through trial and error I found the way to put each one it so they would go in and come out with the least amount of effort. It seems like the hole in Soundwave and/or the disks are not quite perfect circles and there's not enough clearance between the two. Then I said the heck with it and all the disks are displayed as deployed.

Question on Omega Prime (Robots in Disguise (2001) Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus combined). I found it once online somewhere, and can't seem to find it again, is there a way to strengthen/reinforce the joints on the figures so the Omega Prime form doesn't seem like it's going to fall over in a slight breeze?
