Alright, flight came in a bit late locally, so I couldn't do an entry last night... Moving along.

#15 - Superlink Galvatron

Wo.. out of all the Megatrons I chose, this is Number Uno of all of them! Why do you ask? Well, in all honesty the other Megatrons just lack it. You look at Energon Megatron and you look at a figure that isn't trying too hard, and still gets the job done in terms of playability. The rest of the Megatrons we've had in the past few decades just plain suck. Energon is one of the only toy lines where Megatron's toy beats Optimus' hands down. And don't count Armada because a wet paper bag could beat Armada Optimus. Now to the toy. I could start with Energon Megatron... but I'll go to the grand daddy of them all - Superlink Galvatron .

Image
Image

I really don't know if you're into the whole ethics thing, where Megatron just has to be a gun/Galvatron has to be a tank. Well f* that because just look at it.. Takara takes this mold and beautifies it. It really looks like the Galvatron we saw back in the 80's.

Image

Comparing it to the others.. you see the superiority.

Image
Image

Robot Mode. Yes, he has a tank as an arm. But who cares? Sexy translucent plastic unique to Transformers Energon, and topped off with beautiful colors. The figure has an arsenal to itself, and I cannot say enough of the sword arm articulation!

Image

I could talk about Superlink Galvatron's predecessors, but that would be a waste of time. Get Takara's Galvatron.. it's worth the money.

Image

What does the mold do for the history of Transformers toys? It gives hope that Megatron can actually have a half decent toy! Also, A/E/C means a lot for me. Personally I hate the crappy breakable, skinny plastic thats' been in use for the movie, classics 2.0 and animated toy lines. A/E/C has blocky plastic, and that's what toys are meant to have. They're meant to be durable, not to be broken out of the package. It's one of the reasons that people use to explain why they don't collect the new stuff.

Nice choice, but I would argue that the Energon Galvatron is the superior version.

For my taste, I prefer the coloring on the Larger version, and the size scales well next to Cybertron Prime, whom I have displayed as his rival in my collection.

In any case, the mold is great in both scales and I have the leader Galvie and Voyager Megs (standing in for Thunderwing) proudly displayed.

Oh, and you may want to note for the 4 people that may not already be aware, the tank is not only a separate piece that is completely removable, but is a small version of Armada Megs. All in all a wicked cool toy.

I like the coloring on Energeon Galvatron the best. However it's still a good chouice as the mold is a superior Galvatron toy, large or medium sized.

I actually have Energon Galvatron - not Superlink from Japan. But give my situation and modest resources I'm more than willing to settle. I really enjoyed this mold aswell. I twas also a suprise gift from my wife shortly after we got married (for Valentine's Day I believe). Great fun and very durable!

I have heard that in the US Energon Galvy was harder to find? Can anyone confirm this?

I just can't get into the aesthetic of the A/E/C lines of figures. I don't know how to put it exactly, but the figures I have seen just look like they took cool toys and made Playskool versions of them.

Funny, that's how I feel about Animated.

Some Armada toys like Hot Shot and Scavenger I grant you but Energon and Cybertron had some great toys. Though Cybertron gave us the worst looking Prime and Megatron ever.

And Cybertron introduced the Legends class, a mortal sin in my eyes when we could have gotten more Scouts. But that's just me.

Galvatron General. An... interesting choice; personally, I don't like the figure because of the wings (looks out of place on the robot mode) and the tank, that looks like it is just glued on the jet mode. A good homage to a G1 character, but not good enough.
If I'd have to pick the best of the Energon line, it would be Tidal Wave (the white-green repaint of the armada figure)

#14 - Generation One Devastator/Construticons

The first Gestalt ever has to be one of the Top 25 Transformers of all time. Generation One Devastator set the theme for Transformers to come - many combining into one. It's the Pioneer combiner, and Transformers would be odd without the green giant.

Image
Image

The components that make up Devastator are the Constructicons. The name of their group is fitting enough as all six vehicles are Construction vehicles. I really like how they each have their own Robot modes, which are not half bad for figures made in the 80's. However, divided they are nothing...

Image

United, they are invincible.

Image

Okay... maybe not.

Image

The great thing about Devastator is that I just love how the build is solid. Well, yes it is a brick, and bricks are supposed to be solid, but it's still a masterpiece. You have to respect that all of Devastator's components are unique to Devastator, unlike future Gestalts that had interchangeable components.

Image

Devastator's Generation One character was used for the Revenge of the Fallen movie... and we all know what happened with that. G1 Devastator is a classic... a figure that can fit in any collection or simply be a stand alone piece.

I don't think you're gonna have to worry about that. If that were the case, Superlink Gavatron, Armada Jetfire and others would be replaced by their G1 incarnations. Clearly this is not the case, and let's face it, menacing as he was in the movie, ROTF Devastator sucks wrecking balls.

PS, TOTALLY not a biased opinion here, I really just thought he coulda been done better.
