What figures have potentially been repurposed for "Classics" via IDW G1 comics so far?

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

What figures have potentially been repurposed for "Classics" via IDW G1 comics so far?

I love the new IDW designed/inspired figures that have been coming out for the past few months in the Generations line. I’ve paid very little attention to the rebooted Generation 1 continuity that IDW has been publishing for since around 2005, but the spotlight issues packaged with the current wave of deluxe figures has me hooked. Now I’m trying to research what designs from other Transformers lines or continuities have been repurposed via IDW’s publications, specifically in their G1 books, so that I can expand and further customize my “Classics/Neo-G1” display. I know a handful of figures and designs from War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron have appeared in the G1 IDW comics, like Shockwave, Laserbeak, Thundercracker (and by extension the rest of the core Seekers), and some of the Combaticons (I think?). What else can we add to this list, which, by the way, does not need to be restricted to the Generations line proper, though should of course be limited to official Hasbro/Takara releases?

Sabrblade, I think this is right up your alley. ;)

Wow, nice list. Thanks, as usual, Sabrblade! :)

So, the Prime vehicons are now IDW-G1 Decepticon drones/troopers too? That's a nice excuse to put my First Edition Prime Vehicon in my Classics line-up, just like FE Bulkhead :) Is the Cyberverse Insecticon Hardshell supposed to be any particular Insecticon, or just a troop builder?

A Titan Hunter.

Same with the Vehicon.

The Titan Hunters seem to all include non-G1 (and non-Transformers) dudes.

Has IDW-G1 Cliffjumper popped up yet with his FE Prime body as featured with his Generations 2012 Asian market/Toys "r" Us exclusive figure? I like putting that Cliffjumper together with the new Thrilling 30 Bumblebee deluxe. It makes a psychologically pleasing parallel to have both Cliffjumper and Bumblebee in upgraded "sportscar" altmodes.

He's in a comic-original body that appears to be a unique design.

Though, a lot of those aren't "repurposes" since they already represent G1 characters.

Not entirely accurate, Generations Ratbat was modeled after Ratbat in Megatron Origins. All Hail Megatron retconed what was supposed to be Classics Dropshot into a new character by the same name, since that Universe already had a Dropshot that who was dead at that point.

Masterpiece Acid Storm won't work since in the comics he uses the original Kibblescream mold while the toy uses the much better remold. Same goes for Sunstorm.

Tf 2010 Lugnut was always a Classics G1 version, as evidenced by the pack in comic for the Cyclonus vs Rodimus 2-Pack.

I would also not count any of the toys that are based on the idw incarnations, since the Op specifically asked for toys that have been re-purposed from other lines.

That's what it says, so what's the problem? :???:

Dead Metal wrote:All Hail Megatron retconed what was supposed to be Classics Dropshot into a new character by the same name, since that Universe already had a Dropshot that who was dead at that point.
I fail to see the conflict since the info on the list is correct in saying that the Universe Dropshot toy design was used for somebody in the comics.

Dead Metal wrote:Masterpiece Acid Storm won't work since in the comics he uses the original Kibblescream mold while the toy uses the much better remold. Same goes for Sunstorm.
At the time those comics were written, that was MP Seeker mold that existed. They just took the design and colored it like those two. So what if a newer, slightly different in appearance version came out later? The comic design for these two is still intended to be Masterpiece bodies, regardless of which specific mold design was drawn.

Dead Metal wrote:Tf 2010 Lugnut was always a Classics G1 version, as evidenced by the pack in comic for the Cyclonus vs Rodimus 2-Pack.
Again, I fail to see the conflict of the comics using this particular toy design within their pages.

Dead Metal wrote:I would also not count any of the toys that are based on the idw incarnations, since the Op specifically asked for toys that have been re-purposed from other lines.
And thus, that is why I wrote what I wrote after I quoted Jalaguy's list.

He asked which toys that weren't Classics have been repurosed as Classics versions of G1 characters by the idw comics. So all the toys based on designs originating from the comics are already pointless info. As are toys that have been designed to be Classics incarnations of G1 characters, since those already are G1 Classics. Also it's pointless to list toys that don't technically exist, as in the case of Acid Storm and Sunstorm, they are based on a different mold from the actual toys available. That's kinda like starting a Movie toy collection and using TFPrime Optimus instead of a Movie Optimus, simply because they happen to look similar.
The only figures from that list that actuallly work the way the OP asked are Hailstorm, Bulkhead, Vehicons, Lockdown, and the WFC/ FOC figures.

Okay, as the original poster, I can say that Dead Metal is technically correct. However, I had little problem finding he pieces of information I was looking for in particular.

Possible redundancies aside, thanks so much for your help, Sabrblade! :)

Fair enough. Here are the non-G1 toys from the list:

Spotlight
Beast Wars Waspinator
Guy on the Lost Light who looks like Energon Landmine
Autocracy
Transformers (2010) Hailstorm
Monstrosity
Prime First Edition / Robots in Disguise / Cyberverse Bulkhead
Drift
Revenge of the Fallen Lockdown
More Than Meets the Eye
Prime First Edition / Robots in Disguise / Cyberverse (Land) Vehicon
Prime Arms Micron / Cyberverse Air Vehicon
Prime Cyberverse Insecticon
Robots in Disguise
War for Cybertron Bumblebee
War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron Soundwave
Fall of Cybertron Shockwave
Fall of Cybertron Jazz
Fall of Cybertron Onslaught
Fall of Cybertron Brawl
Fall of Cybertron Blast Off
Fall of Cybertron Starscream
Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe
Fall of Cybertron Laserbeak
Generations Skywarp
Thrilling 30 Waspinator
Thrilling 30 (Armada) Starscream

Though, those last two might be subjective as their toy bios haven't been revealed yet, and their bios could very well write them as being the IDW G1 characters instead of the BW/Armada versions of the characters.

How about RID (Car robots) Predacon Sky-Byte? or Botcon 2010 Sky-Byte for IDW Sky-Byte I think he appeared in Robots in Disguise

Does this work according to the rules?

Well, while IDW Sky-Byte is in a body that is based on RiD Sky-Byte, it's more a basic homage rather than a design lifted wholesale from RiD Sky-Byte. For one, his torso turns into his shark mode's head, which RiD Sky-Byte's torso did not do.

so you wouldn't use him to be displayed in your IDW shelf? Does 2010 botcon Sky-Byte work better? hmmm..

No. The resemblance between IDW Sky-Byte and BotCon Sky-Byte is even less than with IDW and RiD Sky-Bytes.

IDW Sky-Byte has an original design.
