ROTF Devastator named one of the holiday's popular toys
ROTF Devastator named one of the holiday's popular toys

Devastator is the ultimate evil weapon in the Transformers battle of bad versus good. The massive action figure is made of six smaller construction vehicles known as The Constructicons. When combined, the resulting mega-robot boasts flashing lights and sounds from the 2009 movie.
Toys "R" Us toy expert Bob Friedland says the Devastator is, hands down, his favourite toy of the season.
"It's a refreshed, totally revamped version of the classic Transformers toy."
The printed article puts it more simply.
You don't have to understand how it all works. You just have to buy it.

I mean, it's an okay toy, but it's not all that like the Masterpieces or Armada Unicron are/were.

Anyway, I think that this artical just goes to show how well Hasbro can design a toy. If kids have fun with it, they've succeeded, and that's all that matters (aside from profit).

Its not a bad toy, its just not what we enthusiasts were hoping for.
Mine seems to have forgotten some of its sound effects. Im sure the lights inside his mouth used to move as if they were rotating but they never do that now, very odd.

Why would any kid/anybody want this thing? Spend $100 on an oversized piece of crap or $100 on many figures? People are probably only buying it cause they have every thing else from the ROTF line already or cant find what they want so they have to settle.
Agreed, this thing is a piece of crap, I feel like I'm playing with a Duplo toy when I use it...I could get all three human alliance figs for the same price, as for the costco sale price, STILL TOO FREAKING EXPENSIVE! It needs to go to the same price as a leader figure. This thing is nothing compared to Unicron of Fort Max or Primus...wtf Hasbro?!?! If TT can do it with legends figures, why can't you do it with something bigger then a leader?!?!?

The delicious irony that Devastator, so poorly rated by the "experts", yet obviously incredibly popular, is from a movie that was poorly rated by "experts" yet proved to be immensely popular!
There is NO WAY this thing is going to the bargain bin anytime soon!

I really don't care for Devastator. If somehow I did end up getting him, I wouldn't mind either. But seriously, what did he say? "It's a refreshed, totally revamped version of the classic Transformers toy."
Yeah, right.
The only thing same is the name and some of the constructicon's names. Now, If they put the constructicons in their right (G1) places and designed Devastator a little more to be like his G1 self, I might've picked it up.

Yeah, it's very expensive, but if my kid wanted one I'd tell him to save up half the cost and I'd spring for the other half.
Glad to hear it's popular where it counts. I say good on you, Hasbro!

I'm a G1 fan originally and a collector, but I agree with you 100%. I'd be drooling over this if I was a kid! Hell, I was drooling over this when it came out! My buddy and I bought one each the first day we saw him at Target!
With that said, he is kinda Duplo-block-ish and I did wish there were robot modes...

1. It doesnt stand up very well, makes it hard to play with.
2. All it does is combine 6 VEHICLES into one robot, the construction vehicles don't transform into robots
3. The sound the thing emits doesn't relate to the character from the movie.
4. Oh yeah and it isn't very movie accurate in appearance, but how could it be?
5. Merely moving the toy makes it emit sounds unexpectedly, frustrating, even for my 2 y/o and 5 y/o
6. It has small parts that detach and go missing easily, why have such a giant toy have small parts that remove for NO REASON?
7. It's heavy and awkward, a small child can barely lift it, i guess thats why it breaks up into smaller more manageable bits, still weird for the toy overall.
8. The parts don't seem to be in scale with one another.
The fact that it was "named one of the holiday's popular toys" is merely a marketing beat-up, a Word Of Mouth scam to lift sales, when I bought the one I have, there were heaps in the shop, the next day there were none! So it's probably selling well, but the mob doesn't usually have any taste, it seems to be all about how much crap you can purchase without going broke, it's not called the 'silly season' for no reason.

A lot of you are forgetting one thing: Transformers is a KID'S brand. It's for children. The adult fans come second. The children are the most valued customers. Not us.
i dont dissagree with your statment but if that was entirely true hasbro would come up with some pdecetn figures that kids can be able to trasnfrom them not adults its past news but here it is again i heard kid say he didint want trasnfromers eluxe figure to his mother becasue they where complex in trasnforming.
im surprised someone would say that about this big guy i see alot of these on shelfs look like they havent been touched buy anyone

It *would* bug me that the individual robots didn't transform and the lack of movie accuracy. I was that kinda kid. But I'd still want it to fight my Voltron.
Of course I'm not a kid. Maybe better paint apps would help it, but I'm not too impressed with the thing myself. I wouldn't say no to it if the price were reduced greatly, but it's not a figure I'm aiming for. I'd probably pick up USB Tigatron over this.
