Hey, guys! I'm not a regular poster on this sight, but I do love the resources here and I've listened to every Twincast. You guys do a great job.
The reason I wanted to post, though, is just to comment on the identity theft issue. I, and a few other people I've talked to, have had a rash of spam email and telemarketer calls since the FunPub breach went down. Many of the telemarketer calls, when I ask them how they got my number, state that I am a previous customer. These aren't random calls, either, as they usually ask for me by name. The worst ones are the calls trying to get me to buy porn (and not the robot kind illustrated above). I have two young daughters at home, and I don't want one of them to pick up the phone and hear someone talking about that stuff. Or worse, if my wife answers and they describe me as a "long time preferred customer!" Besides that, I work nights, and the damn telemarketer calls interrupt my sleep during the day.
At any rate, when trying to figure out what caused this spike, the only thing I can attribute it to is that FunPub's database had our phone numbers. I was lucky that my card wasn't hit before I pre-empitvely canceled it, but that was simple to fix and is done with. Who knows how many companies are going to end up with my phone number or email address? This issue of telemarketer calls, spam email, and God know what else, will probably be going on for years.
I've decided to send FunPub my message with my wallet. I'm done with the TFCC and BotCon until they can demonstrate some better level of customer understanding. Most of their comments on message boards and Twitter seem condescending to the fans. They also have the balls to ask us to store our credit card information AGAIN on their new store website. Well, they can try to auto renew my membership as much as they want, since the only card they have is the one I was forced to cancel because of them.
Hope to see some of you at TFCON!
