It's not the rubble that NEARLY killed him. It was the blast that was seen miles away.

Really? 'Cause the base blew the hell up on his ass. Normally, anyone inside of the blast radius would be extra crispy bacon.

At least he appears to be in better condition than Megatron was after the Space Bridge explosion, since he's aware of his surroundings and he can communicate.

Holy smokes... umm after looking at the packaging art for the face, I have to say you have made a very good point. Would be strange if Smokescreen pulls a movie Jetfire and sacrifices himself to be parts for Optimus.

Anyhow, how is there supposed to be a "new" Prime if Optimus is the last of them.

He could pass the rank and the Matrix onto the person he deems worthy of being the next Prime. Why Jack was previously considered an "Honorary Prime" back at the start of season 2.

Don't forget, Optimus wasn't a Prime back when he was Orion Pax. He succeeded Sentinel Zeta Prime just like the next Prime (when and if there is one) will succeed him, whoever that may be.

Magnus gives the Matrix back to Optimus.
