I'm not really surprised that this head reveal has been controversial at best but thinking back to the original SG set, the heads for Blurr and Roddy got ripped to shreds (and eventually became very popular with the majority of the fandom)

Like SG Treadshot, SG Ultra Magnus seems to use the RtS Laser Prime mold's alternate head, so it's not a BotCon original. Just its debut.

I like the head. Not for Ultra Magnus, but then I won't be getting Ultra Magnus, SG or not, that mold isn't Maggie to me. I'm not actually sure what character that would look good on, but I suppose I'd be ok if they gave us a choice of that or the Prime head when they eventually release the toy (to mass-market) in it's proper colours...black on black. Gimme Scourge, Hasbro-baby!

It almost looks like you can remove the red portion to reveal a clear skull-like head underneath. I doubt it's does anything that cool though.

Wow, he really does sort of look like Movieverse Megs in an Optimus helmet.
That'd be interesting, though it kinda looks like the red may just be painted on.

Either way, I may be applying a light black wash to try and bring out the detail a little. I just feel kinda squirrely about doing any customizing to a Botcon exclusive.
