Extensive Look at Power Core Combiners 5-Pack Bombshock and 2-Pack Smolder with Chopster

Posted by Blurrz Mar 24, 2010 at 2:16pm CDT 38,904 views
We've got plenty of images regarding two Power Core Combiner releases. KOTOys have cooked up galleries for both sets - the 5-Pack Bombshock and 2-Pack Smolder with Chopster. Bombshock is the only one with a robot mode, while his limbs are considered to be drones. This pack resembles the familiar Combaticons. The 2-Pack includes a main component Smolder, with his Targetmaster partner Smolder. Smolder, much like every main Power Core Combiner, can combine with 'drones'. Check out the images and links to the galleries below!

I love how KOtoys shamelessly plugs KOs (which they specialize in, of course) with most of the images they dole out.

I gotta say that even though the collector market is on average luke-warm to these guys, Hasbro sure has hit the nail on the head in marketing these guys to kids.

2 figures for 10 bucks and 5 for 20, any parent is going to see that as a decent deal. And of course kids will love to play with them.

You're comparing a sale price to an MSRP which is apples to oranges.

First time in a long while (RiD I think) That a combiner has 5 sperate molds that have gone into it.

I love these! Combiners have always been a staple of transformers and honestly, who didn't swap limbs from the various merge team. (I especially did cause it took years to get afford my first full team). Has/Tak has a potential goldmine here. Practically limitless combos for characters.

Also, I gotta say I think its really cool that all these guys are practically scout class. Thats seems to be my fave class right now.

As an older "kid" i feel like these are fun on the bun. The whole idea of a 5 pack combiner that interacts with all other Power Core combiners provides so much playability even i might play with these. I like both of these so far.

Agreed. This has never ending playability. I believe they have the same aesthetic as Movie toys, but hell, atleast they're a bit more creative than them. Even if they 'suck', you can end up with an original figure out of mismatching of drones and the central piece.. something I can't wait to fool around with.

I'm sure kids will love the line, but i sure don't. The lack of robot modes for the drones is not compensated with articulation nor aesthetic. Everything looks lazy and awkward. Kudos to Hasbro for keeping the Transformers line marketable.

Wish they hadn't put faction symbols on the drones.

Also wondering if the scout-class figures are gang-molded with their respective drones/minicons. If not, then when the repaint stage hits, Hasbro could get pretty creative, packaging the toys in different combinations.

Though I am uber excited about the Combaticons, was it just me or did the up close individual images of the transformers look like really, really cheap plastic?

Ya know, if we're going to have drones that don't have robot modes, could they at least make a some decent looking appendage modes? I mean f'n seriously. I'm cool with the playability factor of these, and kids are definitely gonna dig'em, but please give me something more than the blade of the bulldozer becomes the fingers transformation.

Agreed. I can live with the drone concept, but those limbs look brutal.

Hmm, smaller than I thought, but then I was forgetting that the central bot is a Scout. I'll probably end up getting the Combaticons, but I'll pass on Smoulder. He's just a weird figure, being a Decepticon firetruck. Unless I slap some Autobot symbols on him and call him Inferno... But he doesn't look that great anyway, and the minicon's pretty fugly.

So combined they stand about voyager to ultra class? That's not too bad. I have to confess, these things are growing on me hardcore.

I like these but the close ups do make them look cheap(realizing they are only scout class) but my only problem is that with no individual bot modes this screams Cybertron Op to me, at least these will have better individual play. Not hating them totally but not totally satisfied ether, all in all I'll still get them.

I'm waiting to see Smolder redone in blue and packaged with rescue vehicles, or as a black truck with race cars.

As for Smolder himself, being a DECEPTICON fire truck amuses me, much like Barricade being a police cruiser. The false sense of security, then turns out to be one of the -bad- guys is delicious.

My only real complaint is the translucent plastic on the minicon sidekicks. But at least its not overindulgance in chrome!
