He shares engineering (he's not a retool!) with the regular 3-Step Optimus Prime, but even he's bending the definition. All you do is swing the chest back and around to the feet. Nothing else!
When literally every part is sculpted differently in some way, you're not in re-tool territory anymore. Think of it more like G2 Smokescreen/BWII Starscream/RID Smokejumper/RM Smokesniper, Energon Starscream, and Generations FOC Starscream. This is Beast Hunters "Upscales" all over again. Basically they share transformation and detailing, but the "upscale" disqualifies it from the main definition of "retool". We have:
- Retools: some modified parts
- Reshells: changes the outward appearance while keeping transformation and some minor parts intact
- Down-/Upscale: changes the size of the basic design, but not the toy.
The last one involves changing designs on paper, no actual existing parts are modified.
Fracture is a nice shade of Decepticon purple, and that's really the only nice thing I can say about this toy. Keeping in mind that it's intended for children I'm concerned about how long it would take the average child to break a figure made from such flimsy plastic, with a play feature that has a tendency to jam. Airazor looks good but is a static brick making its clear parts somewhat useless. Collectors move along, nothing to see here.
