New Images of PCC - Power Up Mode Commanders

Posted by Blurrz May 23, 2010 at 2:07pm CDT 22,317 views
The Power Core Combiners craze continues as griffin over at Ozformers post pictures of each Commander powered up with Drone Limbs. The original commanders included in the 5-Packs are Bombshock and Skyburst, however they can be replaced by any other 2-Pack scout-sized commander, such as the three from the first wave, Huffer, Searchlight or Smolder. Each Drone can be arranged as different limbs, offering endless combinations. Each commander's Mini-con acts as their chest armor. Feel free to check out the images below, while the rest can be seen over at Ozformers.

Man, those just look awkward. I do, however, like the 2-packs (Smolder, Huffer and Searchlight). I will probably pick those guys up, but I doubt I will ever mess with the combining aspect. What a mess. The lack of defined hands kills the concept for me. I don't mind the non-transforming drones, but I like to see true hands. This idea probably looked better on paper. The execution here is certainly not that great.

On the brightside, I love all three of the minicons. The fact that they are transulent makes them more of a want for my collection. I have a thing for translucent plastic figs.

Really awesome, but, even though I want 'em all, I'm more concerned about Huffer, whose pictures we're barely seen. Again, can't wait to see the first custom of this guy into Motormaster! I do wish the 5-pack Combiners came with Mini-Cons. :-(

 Great comment!

Yeah, they look pretty bad in combined mode. Look how bad Smolder's left arm/helicopter looks! WTF?

You know, to me, Smolder looks pretty good in his combined mode. When they come up with the Rallybots, he'd make a good Defensor. Just saying, all you need to do is color him red, light blue, and black, and BAM custom Defensor. Am I right? Tell me I'm right!

They look like they are all about to fall apart. Why the goofy hanging left arms ???

I wonder if each drone has an arm mode and leg mode, or does each one only form one limb.

Nope, the drones are limb specific. Meaning they only form either an arm or a leg. And to those complaining about the hands: YOU try integrating a working hand into the design.

Have you seen other combiners before? Essentially Combiners always have a fatal flaw, they aren't always easy on the eyes. But it's more than just apperances, it's a figure's playability, it's how the owner enjoys them.

Pretty darn simple: just include add-on/attach-on accessories. That's one thing I like about the old G1 combiners. Just leave a small hole or such to attach a hand. Voila. Those current claws just don't do it for me.

Coming from you, that's a really lame argument.

Simple, just mold an open hand akin to Protoform Prime instead of a claw, take up just as much space and engineering.

Even the GoBots managed a combiner with integrated hands and those limbs transformed too. These look like they've been engineered to look crap.

wow 7in tall not very big for a combiner
there more like the size of the micromaster
6 build, 6 wing, 6 turbo combiners
they should be bigger at leat 10 to 15 in tall

These are great fun toy's, i just hope we get extras packs with just new limbs and mini cons, I don't want to buy extra bombshock packs so I can have all my guys in power up modes!

Working hands would be easy to integrate if they didn't insist on a spring loaded mechanism. If they did that then you could have working elbows and wrists too, as well as a way to wield the Mini-con as a weapon in combined mode.

Smoulder looks terrible in the official transformation there. He looked FAR cooler in the previous pictures.

The more I see of these the less I like them. They're too small, asymmetrical, and flimsy looking.

The thing that buggs me about the PCCs is that the drone limbs, having no robot ault. mode, could have been design as perfect, articulated limbs, with recognisable hands and functional elbows. Instead they are clawed, immobile and seem to just hang from the shoulders. *sigh* This was ALMOST a good idea... :BANG_HEAD:
