so he does have the visor that slides down over his eyes like in the 1986 movie... this figure is looking more and more awesome all the time!

Also, now we have a comparison shot of MP Roddy next to G1 Rodimus... Using that, can someone tell how tall he will be next to MP Prime???

EDIT: After looking through the seibertron galleries, it looks like MP Rodimus will stand roughly the same height as MP Grimlock in robot mode... I guess no more future MP's will be as big as MP Prime :-(

Dude, I think I just filled the cup. Seriously, this guy looks sweet. They even made the battle station look cool too. TakaraTomy, here is my wallet, take what you need.

Edit: What extra's do you think he will come with? I am hoping for the Matrix, sword and shield from the movie (when he was training), saw arm and a photo of Arcee. Ok, the last one was a joke.

Looks fantastic. Only thing I'm curious about now is how the "Hot Rod" mode works. Is it just a face swap (robot mode) and spoiler transformation (car mode) or is there more to it than that?

And does the big Rodimus gun split into two smaller ones for Hot Rod?

Looks a little bland to me. The other MP's are packed with features and details. He's got... sunglasses? I'll hold off final judgement until we get all the details. I wish they went the titanium route: ditch the trailer and just made the whole thing the robot. That would be awesome.

I'm not worried as these things are usually revealed later.

Plus: big f*cking weapons platform is a pretty decent accessory. 8)

The 'bot mode is sweet, but I don't understand why they didn't do something more interesting with the weapons platform than simply scale it up. I always hated that thing. It's such bollocks compared to Optimus's combat deck.

I'm so very happy about this figure mainly because it continues the MP line beyond trucks and jets one step further after megatron and grimlock. I know it is premature, but I'm hoping for an MP soundwave with cassettes in the future. Seems like the next logical choice.

Id like to see what he looks like in Alt mode but without the trailer connected.

That's what I'm talking about, it's the same thing from 24 years ago. I never liked it either, it doesn't seem fitting for a leader character.

The Masterpiece line is mainly directed towards G1 collectors... The Robot and Alt. modes are supposed to resemble their G1 cartoon and toy counterparts, but with modern day technology to make them as accurate as possible. MP Rodimus's Alt. mode looks spot on and now we have a vastly superior robot mode for him compared to his G1 toy robot mode.

I first looked at this at work nearly two hours ago, and I thought it looked half decent.

But now i'm hoping and have more time to think about it ... it just feels like they've upscaled the G1 version and added articulation.

And that face looks a tad plain. Still, will be snapping him up!

I might be jumping the gun but I really don't think this guy's coming with a "Hot Rod" mode. I'll gladly eat my words if it does but the engineering behind it would be a killer to pull off.

I still need to get MP Megatron, Starscream and Grimlock before I even consider this guy... can't find Grimlock anywhere here in Australia. Megs and Starscream are now hard to come by too for anything less than all the gold in Fort Knox. :-\

I wonder who Rodimus has on his communicator screen?

Maybe, but one of the designers seemed to indicate it does have a Hot Rod mode at Botcon. Who knows, it might have been cut due to production costs or some other reason, but I am expecting it will do.

MP Grimlock is turning up at TRUs for $150 AUD, but I believe it is cheaper to order him from RobotKingdom.

$69.99 USD before shipping. Still cheaper either way.

Anyway, Rodimus looks SWEET!

This trailer is more than just upscaled, it has a couple of new features that were not possible with the G1 toy. Those who had it will remember Rodimus could only stand behind the main gun with his arms outstretched. This one has controls for Rodimus to take hold of and direct the gun, the blast sheilds also appear to be hinged. See the pic:

The trailer for Convoy was a simple upscale but at least Rodimus is getting a little bit of redesign. I still love it. The large gun pose looks awesome. I am also certain that the gun splits in two (there is a gap in the middle) to give Hot Rod his dual guns. All in all, after the barrage of seekers we have had in the line, I am glad we are getting a new mold and the fact it is Rodimus Prime makes it all the better. I look forward to January.

I told you. Back when he was first announced I said he'd be no taller than Grimlock or the Seekers but CP was all over me for being sarcastic.

MP Rodimus Convoy looks great to me. Am I the only one who sees the impressive posing potential of the figure? Look at the photos of the prototype at the top right and top left corners of the magazine page. The wide legged stance with the soles of both feet flat on the surface on the top left is something relatively few TF figures can achieve. The top right image with RC posing with its gun is also another stance that is not easily achieved by many TF figures either. It seems like MP RC is shaping up to be a TF figure with some great articulation ability.

As far as size, I think that from a functional standpoint, being smaller than MP Convoy/OP is a good thing. Even without diecast metal content, figures of such large stature are difficult to stay posed without multiple ratchet joints. Being at MP Grimlock's size makes the figure manageable for long term posing and still makes the figure large enough to look great on display.

Aside from the ability to be Hot Rodimus and Rodimus Convoy, I don't expect or wish for any other gimmicks. As DavidT said, the MP line is aimed towards G1 fans. The MP line is all about taking G1 toys and making contemporary "masterpieces" in TF toy form. The only exception is MP Movie Starscream and to be honest, that's not a proper MP as far as I'm concerned as it's a repainted mainline toy.

Looks good but the face is a little gaunt. I really do hope this guy can alternate character appearances. A little wider, more youthful face would work wonders there. I can't wait to see it in color! Really hoping for the G1 toy colors and not the movie/show pinks.

I stood my g1 roddy next to my mp prime and I gotta say, hes gonna be shorter then op, but not by much. definatly bigger then the seekers, looks like rodimus will come up to primes shoulders.
