Interestingly, it appears Shockwave's working name was Blitzwing in preproduction:
I think Shockwave would have been more badass if they actually went with the idea of him appearing on his "steed". I mean, unfolding out of it was interesting but it didn't really give much of a relationship. It was always a "look over the shoulder and cue the Driller" kind of thing and it left Shockwave doing very little in the film.
Would have been really cool to see our sinister and calculative Shockwave attacking from atop the Driller. A scene like that, done right, would have made them both rather fearsome instead of this Drill character stealing the spotlight away from a character who was, it seems, supposed to have som importance.
Oh well.
Thanks for the clip. It was cool to see how things were originally thought up
A shame how they put all that thought into how Shockwave piloted the Driller just to have him ambiguously pop out of it in the movie itself.
The "Blitzwing" thing (which we've known about since the first concept art released -- near when the movie hit theaters) seems to be more of a precaution against possible leaks than an actual working name. A Megatron concept had "Cyclonus" written on it, plus there's just no way that Shockwave design could possibly be anyone but Shockwave.
i was hoping they would say why shockwave was barley in the movie and only had one line, instead they showed the cool ideas they had and how bay ruined them.
I love you guys, you know that? As I watched the clip I found myself thinking that it's a real shame that they put all this thought into the backstory of a character and the Driller and then reduced them both to a few minutes (to be generous) and no explaination whatsoever. Certainly though, this is one of those things that is thoroughly explained and easily apparent to the casual fans for whom the movie was made, right? Shame nonetheless, the concept behind the idea was much better than what ended up in the movie.
I agree. No hate on all their efforts, but Shockwave was such a waste in the film. He could've been any character. The one line he had was awesome, but he was definetly overshadowed by Megatron, Soundwave, and of course Sentinel. He deserved his own movie.
