TakaraTomy Transformers Adventure In-Hand: TAV-15 Lockdown, TAV-16 Bombshell & TAV-17 Shrapnel

Posted by shajaki May 30, 2015 at 11:15pm CDT 27,700 views
Blogger slash Tweeter Alfes2010 has posted some pictures of TakaraTomy Transformers Adventure figures TAV-15 Lockdown, TAV-16 Bombshell & TAV-17 Shrapnel! Lockdown is of course a re-deco of the original Transformers Animated figure, while the Insecticons (Bombshell & Skrapnel) hail from the Legends Class Generations/Combiner Wars lines. Lockdown aside from deco remains unchanged, but the bugs have been slightly remolded in order to incorporate the circle TAV logo sticker on their chests. This development may turn some off, the unified deco of the pair still pleases this reporter. See the pics below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com for all your Transformers News!

Ugh. Why do those stickers have to be so big?

Really kills the figures doesn't it? Worse is the knowledge this comes from TakaraTomy. You'd expect this sort of thing from Hasbro.

Pardon my ignorance, but is the code scanner game thing even available in Japan? Because if they don't, the usage of those stickers is even more ridiculous.

They have their own game app just for them.

Remember, the oversized stickers are just dummy stickers for packaging and, per Takara's request, photographing, as they prevent the real codes from being scanned and used without the purchase of the toys in question. In person, once you have these out of the package, the scannable insignias will be of a smaller size, fitting the figures appropriately. Still, I'll be ripping the stickers of the Insecticons, Powerglide, and Cosmos, replacing them with appropriate licensed Decepticon and Autobot decals from Ocean once I get my paws on them.

Well, glad I didn't buy these and try to remove the stickers. Not sure why Takara Tomy bothered to make them look so G1 if they were just going to remold them. They look bad with or without the stickers. Glad I went with the Hasbro versions after all.

Yeah, me too. Both companies care about the brand and have their own agendas with products they want to put out and in what way. And it's not like Takara is the be all end all, after all they were the ones who came up with the Microns which is a concept very few like. Oh sure Takara, give Megatron a gorilla micron I have to piece together myself instead of a nice cannon.

Haha! I am glad you like him. What I dont like is that since it isnt one piece, it tends to split a bit and not be even. Also that cannon is HUGE. My other beef was with Ironhide. Hasbro's Kup had these great movie Ironhide weapons that would have gone great with Takara's Ironhide. But no, instead we get:

Instead of this:

Also, while I have you here Sabr, could you explain to me what these are in terms of toy/fiction?

Those are the first wave of the Gacha Arms Microns. Little capsule toy Arms Microns that were sold in Japanese vending machines. The little Autobot ones are Autobots (of course) and the little animal ones are Decepticons.

Best to think of OPB and BBS as separate dudes from the bigger versions who just happen to resemble the bigger versions for some reason or another.

To me, the point is these are rather unimaginative gimmicks. I don't mind the idea behind them but I thought they way they were released was cheap. My AM Ironhides gun broke when input him together. I wasn't too happy. I love little target master guys but I think the point is that this was a misstep. But the missteps from Takara are kinda ignored because they are "the good company" whereas Hasbro is "the bad company".

It just seems like many of us blame Hasbro for everything wrong and Takara for everything right and that just isn't so. It's hard to enjoy the fandom sometimes when so many people seem to feel the need to crap on it because of the company that released it.

I'll freely admit that most of the time Takara has a superior product But they seem geared towards collectors and fans, and Hasbro isn't.

The argument is like, "I like fruit and oranges. But look at that bannana! Why arent you an orange you bannana!"

Yeah the rage at Hasbro vs love for Takara is a little unbalanced, but check the "When was the Hasbro version better" thread here (can't link on mobile) for some role reversal there.

The whole arms micron thing seems silly to us westerners, but it was aimed at the Japanese teen market, with whom modelling is a big thing. Some of the weapons that are packed in with the figures are pretty sweet, but most of the Gacha ones ("gotcha?") are pretty stupid. I kind of regret buying all 12 in translucent colours, though I may follow Sabr's lead when TFCC Serpentor arrives and make his staff...

Here's the thread http://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/when-was-the-hasbro-version-better-than-the-takara-version--p1692812.php

Arms micron is actually ignored but I guess its because the terrible weapons in the Hasbro versions didnt make them better versions either way (and NO ONE made a dark grey megatron, NO ONE!!!!!!!!).

Gotta admit though, that giant purple bat which turns into a sickle and gives megatron dark energon wings was pretty stellar.
