10 years down the road... Where do you see the brand?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

10 years down the road... Where do you see the brand?

Postby Dr Buffalo » Mon Aug 20, 2007 5:08 pm

This is something that I've always been curious about. Judging by the fact that many people on the board have had years of experience collecting, watching and over-all investing in the franchise, I've often wondered what predictions do you hold for our beloved robots in the near future. What kind of toys do you see? What's in store for the movies and shows? What do you see for the extended merchandise? What do you think is going to happen with fandom? In essence, I pose this question: what happens next.

I have a lot of ideas buzzing around my head, but of one thing I am certain: sometime around the 2nd or 3rd movie, Optimus is going to get a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

Motto: "I'm grade-A, 100% prime-cut final boss! I'm going to take over the world any day now!"
Weapon: Multi-Function Sword
That would have to one very big tile.

In all honesty, I have no idea how things may end up. Ten years is a long time in business. But my hopes are that we will continue to see new ideas coupled with new twists on the classic characters we all know and love.

And maybe a more adult oriented tv series, but that's just crazy wishful thinking.

I see TF as sort of a revolution. The TF idea looks very common now. But when it started back in the 80s, it was a departure from the usual toys. It was a unique innovation. It was like a new invention in the toy world. Far different from all kinds of toys available in those days.

I think TF will go beyond another 10 years into the future. Unless something new, some awesome brand new toy idea comes along and make TF look pale in comparison.

I suppose that it will go through another couple of evolutions, but it will probably will stay mostly the same.

The TF formula works so well, I dont see it ever evolving to a point where it is unrecognizable.

Robots in disguise, thats what works, thats probably how it will stay.

Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
Where do I see the brand in 10 years? Back in obscurity.

Fads go in cycles. Right now, the '70s and '80s are hot, hot, hot.

When we hit the next decade, (at the very least, the tail end of it) don't be surprised if they go back to what they were in the late, late '80s/early '90s.

It happens.

The Gundam franchise has been here since the 70s, and it's still going strong. Transformers will continue to thrive!

Batman has been popular for SIXTY-FIVE YEARS!

And Superman will be celebrating his 70th birthday next year or so.:)

So why not Transformers? Our imagination will always be vivid and we can always pass our love for Transformers down to our children - and their children, too.^_^

Even though I haven't actually seen the movie yet, I think it would take a lot more than a single movie to derail something that has endured for this long.

In ten years

Postby sparesoul » Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:08 am

In ten years we'll more than likely see a cgi (current quality) television program. In fact, bet on it. The toy line will not only improve, but will see the addition of a line geared towards adults (larger, more detailed robots) and you can bet a few mistakes will be made as well.
I see a new line of realistic insecticons, the premise based on a tiny variety of transformers to fill a niche yet untouched.
Also, we will likely see steampunk Transformers.
Any thoughts?

I expect it'll be the same as it is now.

Transformers is a very durable brand, and has yet to really change.

Except I expect most original G1 figures will have turned to dust. And Beast Wars, or RiD will be the new G1- as in the fans born during this era will for the most part replace us G1ers. We'll be too busy smoking pipes and discussing various topics of importance and interest.

More money for Hasbro, More Toys for us... eventually.

I'd love to see Steampunk Transformers, Evolutions ones mainly, and maybe some others later on. I mainly want the Starscream from that comic and Shockwave.

Years down the road, the current and previous toys will only increase in price. Like real estate properties. They will become rare items when production ceases. And ebay will make a killing.
