Perhaps it's a miss-assembly or a bit of flash blocking something or an iffy lens.

Emerje wrote:I feel like Reflector is one that if they were capable of doing it they would have already. They were sold at retail in Japan and had a prominent spot on the cartoon, plus the repaint potential is there. Takara Tomy (and therefore Hasbro) not reissuing them some 10+ years ago tells me that they either don't have the molds or don't have them in any condition to reuse them.

Emerje
I actually agree with SillySpringer here. That would be a great set to remake. My G1s are still in great shape, but Viewfinder being the only one close in color to the cartoon is crazy. The only media I saw them in in their toy colors was Dreamwave comics I think? Or was that early IDW..I can't remember..

Emerje I'm sure you're right that they were lost or aren't usable. Where'd all the KO versions come from though (with their pretty boxes)?!

I don't disagree that it would be nice to have, just that it's not likely possible.

And as was said already, KOs are made from reverse engineering new molds based on existing figures. Takara Tomy and Hasbro could do the same thing, but have stated that it's too expensive to do right to be worth doing. If I remember right they did do this to repair the Soundwave mold (as well as filling gaps with the Soundblaster mold) but isn't a common or popular method.

KO companies can do it because they're using cheaper molds and can keep pumping them out until they either stop selling on eBay or become unusable. TT and Hasbro will only make more expensive molds that will last a long time and can only make a certain amount as to not tie up the factory. They also have to be sure that a new mold is of something that will sell a massive amount, and reissues aren't exactly known to sell to the general public. Better to use an existing mold that's ready to go for reissues.

This likely belongs in the Titans Returns thread but I'll say it here as it is inspired by a comment here.

What if Hasbro instead of doing the obvious thing of one day Repainting Soundwave & Blaster as Twincast & Soundblaster - since it might be tricky to remould them to take two pads.

To get some use out of the design instead they could make a Megatron out of it that turns into either working or non working radio - like the Diaclone toy he could come with a Cassette scout like Soundwave had that turned into a pad size mini radio and possibly have real speakers in his legs.

If not then simply as non working would just require a new head and chest on Soundwave or Blaster. and perhaps a new gun.

http://news.tfw2005.com/2010/05/04/feat ... -am-169630

I suppose a Shattered Glass Blaster is a possibility too.
Looking at the Microchange ones though I think I like the design of their tape door more. on the red/silver one especially.

So it ended up costing more than Robot Kingdom after all. That makes it the second most expensive Combiner Wars set after Devastator. At least the shipping is free.

I can't see why LK wouldn't also show up in Asian markets as a normal retail product and so be available that way - that wouldn't really benefit the US Market as much though I guess.

I they hurry up and replace Funpub with another club Then the missing team members from this set is something I'd quite like as possible Hasbro or Takara exclusives - as Swindle is so obviously perfect to repaint in black... not to mention I'm sure there is some Minicons or Arms Microns they can make into partners for them too. it really can't be to hard to make another jet either.

I actually think there is to ways to sell that idea - either you add an adaptor part and bodge up a Targetmaster mode for two more characters (Seacon style) or they simply sell them like Alpha Bravo, Rook & Off Road as alternative team members to maintain the combination even if some of them are damaged. It might even be possible to fit a flatend jet on the chest or back too.

To me this situation is like the one that we had with Kre-0 combiners where they had two few members in the teams and the additional characters were then made later on.

I guess the other obvious way (and cheaper for us) is Vs Boxed sets - I know i'd rather have the large number of CW toys that would be useful than some endless mild repaint of Movie Optimus they keep throwing at us in the Movie year.

I.e. : Red Alert, Sideswipe, Slicer, Detritus, Jazz, Hoist, Silverstreak, and some 'Seekers'. Maybe even a Blue Roller (Rook).

Have Target stores in the United States been getting the "The Transformers: The Movie" 1986 Platinum sets yet? I want that properly painted Ultra Magnus, but I've not seen the set on shelves yet. Did the exclusivity of this set change?

Not sure what you mean by properly painted; I've been staring at both CW and Autobots Heroes Magnuses for like 10 minutes and I can't see any different paint applications. Ambus has different apps but not Magnus.

Darker blue paint/plastic and brighter white plastic to better match the animation model. Painted tire rims. More blue paint apps on the "pelvis" region, etc. There's some appreciable differences that make him worth it to me. The additional/better paint apps on Minimus Ambus are icing on the cake. :)

Darker? The blue on Platinum looks lighter to me (which also looks better imo)

It looks darker and more of a true "blue" to me. Much closer to the blue used on Takara's Transformers Legends release (which I have passed on due to the red thighs and other paint app decisions). The blue color for the Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus release looks almost turquoise by comparison. Whatever your eyes perceive, I want the "Autobot Heroes" set for that Magnus to go on my "Classics" shelf. He looks fantastic to me as the nearly perfect amalgamation of the previous Hasbro and Takara releases.

Y'know, for a movie-accurate set it's a bit weird they're advertising Arcee using her Animated/IDW-homage swords rather than her movie-homage Guns
