Accidentally.

Now? Twilight? Vampire Diaries?

You and other Buffy fans will hate me for this but I consider Buffy(the movie and the TV series) to be in the same group as Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and any other vampire related shows/stories that, to me, are largely high drama productions that use the concept of vampires in their stories.

It lasted one season and was cancelled about two years ago. Not really new.

What they are is essentially nightmares-in-the-flesh, and extremely dangerous when encountered.
They are not boyfriend material, and they do not 'sparkle.'

I agree 100%.
I've always had a problem with the rash of romanticized vampires that have dribbled out over the years. My vampire education came from the original 70's production of Salems Lot with David Soul, which terrified the crap out of my adolescent self back then. The movie depicted them as filthy, animalistic things, scratching at your window at night and spreading their disease throughout the town. I used to have nightmares about Barlowe the lead vampire. Now THOSE were vampires!
I only caught one showing of Buffy, which I thought was fairly creepy, but only because it deviated slightly from the Vampire theme. It was the Hush episode with those ghoulish heart-stealing gentlemen guys.
And Kudos to the member who mentioned it-Helsing most definitely rocks!

Those aren't vampires, they're faeries.
