A little bit of both. There was an incident a while ago where someone had hacked the Westboro Baptist Church (The "God hates Fags" people) website, and WBC claimed it was Anonymous. A representative said it wasn't Anonymous, whoever hacked WBC was acting on their own. They actually defended the Westboro Baptist Church because when they say they defend free speech, they mean it. But WBC wouldn't drop it, and kept picking at Anonymous...and Anonymous was forced to retaliate. I'm not sure what the extent of the damage was, though.

Forced to retaliate? They made the decision to retaliate instead of doing the mature thing and ignoring the crazy, hatefilled freaks. What sort of threat are WBC to a group of immature, social rejects sitting in their mum's basements tripping on delusions of grandeur and internetz revelry? None. Anon is just another bully who picks on those weaker than it because it can, they can try to justify it by saying they're fighting for an ideal but it's just a case of a bunch of nobodys trying to make themselves look big.
And the irony of: 'We'll defend your right to say what you want as long as it's not about us or we'll make your life a living hell' should be funny but it's just sad.

And those "immature social rejects" are also capable of hacking every electronic device you own. Their not trying to make themselves look big, they are that big.

EDIT: As for being a bunch of nobodies, why do you think the group is called Anonymous?

I know I'm way late to this thread, but I can relate to all of you here. I was picked on a lot, too, blah blah blah. Whatever. I punched the snot out of a bully in middle school and mostly everyone left me alone after that.

At the time, I thought the other kids left me alone because I did something "cool" and beat someone up, and that I would do the same to them if they crossed me. Now that I'm older, I know why kids left me alone: Because I became confident in myself.

Here's a big kid with a confidence issue. If he believed more in himself, this would never have happened, and that smaller kid would have known better than to mess with him.

The end result is the same. I don't care if one beating was more vicious than the other. The bully pushed and prodded, the victim finally fought back.

Try being the victim of a bully. See what it does to you mentally. I can't fault either kid for snapping and beating them down. Disagree if you must, but I won't fault either of 'em.

I've seen both sides of the argument. I'm with the victims 100% of the time.

I don't disagree completely but puting a kid down when he was hitting you and giving a kid a savage beating for getting in your face is different.

And finishing a fight against someone who hit you, and releasing years of rage at being bullied is different. I was bullied for most of my life, and if I were to release the many years of anger and hate on someone like these kids are doing, it would be a helluva lot more than just knocking him down.

Not too surprising seeing all these tales of bullying, from all of us members and from the links of these videos. I have to add myself to the list, I was bullied too. For me it was a case of being the scrawny kid who looked like easy prey. being the youngest in a large family and therefore being a target for my older brothers, I was already marked heading into school. If it wasn't for one of my cousins teaching me how to fight, a mixture of martial arts and street fighting, I probably wouldn't have made it through high school intact. I had 2 bullies in particular who, at least every other day, would decide it was time to slam-dance me into the lockers. Finally one day I snapped. I saw the one kid give his partner in crime a "power-shove" to get things started and I dropped my books, side stepped and latched onto my 'Dance Partner' and added some more momentum to his journey and forced him face on into the lockers. I finished my spin by launching myself at his accomplice and slammed him into the lockers directly behind him and told him if either of them even thought about touching me again I'd kick both their asses up and down the halls. I remember it like it was yesterday even though it was over 20 years ago and I feel no shame in admitting that remembering the look of terror in their eyes still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. 2 against 1, both of them bigger than me and I had them scared ****-less! I lost track of the number of times after that that I stepped in the middle of situations where other kids were getting bullied and it didn't matter to me what the odds were. I knew what kind of hell the victims went through and if the bullies wanted to know just what kind of terror they were inflicting on their victims, by god I was willing to dish it right back at them. Almost every single time the altercation ended without a punch being thrown which is the best outcome I could hope for. Let the big kids know their power is limited and let the ones being picked on know that they aren't alone and that they aren't helpless. I applaud the kid in the video for standing up to that little punk. Lord knows the schools don't do enough (or aren't allowed to do enough) to stop this, parents in general these days tend to be the ones causing the kids to become bullies and deserve an ass-whooping themselves, and the laws in general tend to protect the guilty and make the victims suffer more in the long run so there really is only one way to deal with this issue and that's to let the bullies know that you aren't putting up with it and there are consequences if you keep pushing it.

Exactly. This is what I'm talking about. Everyone has their breaking point and if it's reached, they're gonna snap. We all have to remember, we're only human, after all.

I wish people still bullied me. But now everyone at my school is afraid of me. I don't talk to anyone and I wear all black so everyone stays away from me. I'm proud of that.

I don't think they're afraid of you. Wearing black clothing doesn't actually scare anyone. I think you just weird everyone out, the goth/emo look (Not the same, though similar in a few aspects, don't ask how I know that) does that to people.
