Cybertronian Diorama

Hello!

My first attempt at creating a diorama. Basically using the following.
- Foam
- Aluminum Foil
- Glue
- Tape
- Sharpie
- Ruler

For the amount of time I put into this (2 hours) and costs... I am fairly happy with the results. Still more to do with it in getting it a bit more realistic, but for a first go ill take it...

Anyways here is the results... (Link below with a step by step...)

Whats neat about it is that light reflects all over the place when lit different ways. (Ill have to do another tutorial on this.) When lit with a single light source it really goes into a nice darker feel. (Last couple pictures show my custom sword I made for Superion also. Still waiting on my CW Superion to arrive...)

To read the complete tutorial on what I did go to: http://bruticus.net/2015/02/cybertronian-metal-diorama/

Plan to paint this and add more details. Along with trying a few more glues, and methods for laying the aluminum foil down. As it tends to bubble and get creases very easily.

Thanks for reading!

Ok so I got a lot of free time this weekend. I was able to paint one of the panels.

Mostly did several different colors just to see what I could do. So its a bit messy, however with that I think I can do several different types of scenes here very easily.

- Yellow / Oranges making a more G1 Teletran-1 / Ark.
- Grays / Blacks more metal like
- Purples / Grays Decepticon base...

Goal is to be a bit more realistic than cartoony.

Very cool, Sir Knight. Very very cool. The light does do some neat things.

That sword is really cool too! What is that made out of?

I like that you started the diorama it's own thread. :D

Sword was a 3D Print... You can read about it on my blog. I had this specific one printed in alumide which is basically like plastic, but with some aluminum dust added. White Plastic would probably have been better, but it works...

http://bruticus.net/2014/11/custom-superion-sword/

Its about 181mm tall (18CM) so its pretty dang big. I wanted something that was more in-line with ROTF (Energon) Superion styling so I had to make one...

Tempted to remove the Autobot emblem though as it really distracts a lot and it was a pain to paint... (Probably should considering Hasbro owns that as a Trademark emblem...) :BOT: :-?

This is really kewl, I am diggin the foil idea! Mostly because it seems like doing panel lines would be so much easier than scribing them in styrene...

I like the paint also what kind did you use on the foil?

I wonder if what the foil would be like if you could do some sort of acid wash on it to get it oxidize to get a weathering effect??
I am very suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I totally trust a dog that doesn't like a person...

Hey sorry didn't get a notification on this post... :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD:

The paint I used was just an Acrylic I use "Americana". Which is relatively cheap, but works pretty good so far.
I wrote a little bit on it here http://bruticus.net/2015/02/cybertronian-metal-diorama-part-2/.

Acid Staining hmmm I need to read up on that... That could be a really good idea. I need to also look into a more "rustic" concept also. Being its a metal based long as it dries it should be fine.

One benefit of using foam though is that you can use this technique also that might help with creating a bit more "depth..."

That's a really cool technique for rubber foam.
