Did you ever felt ashamed to be a Transformer fan?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

 You liked Bionicle? I thought you were cool

j/k :P

but i've never been ashamed of liking TFs. Everyone should have a few creative outlets. TFs just happens to be one of mine.

oh... and Bluebullet is still cool 8)

It was cool up until the Hordika (2005). The drastic changes made me and a large portion of the fandom leave because of the loss of Kanohi Masks, the mass production of large parts, ape physique, and new, stranger looks. This contributes to my opposition of the movie, because past experience shows the same flaws that hurt the franchise in the film. If you Google Image "Tahu" and then google "Inika Kongu", you will understand. :-(
While I'll agree wth you that the Hordika weren't great, I personally like the Inika.

I get made fun of and work by some fellow employees who are half my age

Sayiong I'm a grown man why do I need toys
Or they get sarcastic and say you going home to play with your toys

My feeling is this:I don't care they can kiss my ass

I was collecting these things when they were still in diapers
My mgr doesn't seem to put up with them she's a bit older then me and collects Star Wars

But telling your freinds in High School about the Transformers remember they only seen thaose dorky Energon and Cybertron episodes so they judge from that

Yes, back in the 1980s, especially if you're a female and outside the age group the Transformers were originally aimed at.

Today - not anymore, now that there are all sexes and genders to enjoy Transformers! :P

Oddly enough, I also get more positive views of my collection as an adult than I did when I was a moppet. I wasn't outside the age group, but when I was in first and second grade, I got a lot of taunts from appalled female classmates who couldn't understand why I liked "boys' stuff." Nowadays most people who know about my stash think it's fun. I get a lot of, "Wow! I haven't seen one of those since I was ten! Can I hold it?"

Whenever I talk about TFs at school, I hear, "Oh, Beast Wars? I remeber those! I used to love those things!"

Or, something of that sort. :-?

Nope. Never been ashamed of being a Transfan.

The only person I know who has ever given me crap about it is my friend who I recently helped move. When we were finished packing up his 'collection' we had a Trailblazer and a pickup truck filled with boxes of porn. And then, we had to make a second trip for the rest of his porn.

And people think we as collectors are somehow maladjusted......

Everyone has a guilty pleasure. I'm kinda stuck as a kid in the 80's. Every show that I used to watch back when I was in New York I collect now.... I Dream of Jeannie, Transformers, Thundercats, and others.

I only feel guilty if I think about how much I have invested in Transformers.

and only briefly.

My sad thought on the matter is that I have to box up 60% of my stuff at a minimum now to be able to enjoy my displays.

Not ashamed at all.My group of friends think what I have is pretty cool. My boyfriend was a Anime otaku with a big MF dvd collection, so what's the difference? None. I also collect MLP.

I know, right? I highly doubt that he can utilize all of it at all, really. I also find it hard to believe that all of it could actually be different. This pal of mine also was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.....a shiney quarter to the first who can guess why! Now, I've given this matter a good amount of thought because I'm like that I guess, but this friend of mine tries to laugh at me because i collect action figures, claiming that his collection' is at least acceptable because at least it's 'manly'. Now I know we usually get into the repainted figure topic around here, and in truth a repaint is only valuable in the eyes of the person who buys it becuase it is, excepting the paint job, a figure that already might exist in ones' collection. But I still can see no way that one would have two and a half truck loads of porn and not admit that so many of them are essentially identical. Plus, there's no ethical problems with actgion figures really.
Just for clarity's sake I guess, let me just say that I am a reasonably well adjusted, heterosexual male with a college degree and a good job. I have a vast action figure collection encompassing a number of different arenas in addition to Transformers. I've gotta say, I appreciate women and sex and all that, but I have this problem with it being exploited, for lack of better descriptions I guess. Plus, I just plain ol' f****n' don't see how all that porn and my action figures both count as 'collections', and how I am somehow inferior because my #1 hobby isn't masturbating.

This is a result of his job or computer habits- repetitive stress injuries such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occur as a result of a completely different sort of motion than what one would perform while watching pornography.

Dude, I hate the fact that 99.9% of all human males will never be able to see anything more than a vagina and a pair of breasts when they look at a woman. Oh, and that friend of your's will prolly be wondering why he can never get a girl to be open to a serious relationship with him in no time. I mean, it really is ridiculous the way most dudes act sometimes. It's like they'll never be able to rise above the status of a simple caveman with a major boner.

I've never seen any reason to be ashamed of collecting Transformers, most of the time they're little works of art in both engineering and imagination.
I've learned to put up with the insults I get every day for collecting them instead of worshipping sports like everyone else in this part of Scotland, I've learned to fend off the attacks I get at times and I've managed to protect the collection from being destroyed many times.
It's amazing how narrow minded people can be when you don't share their interests.

Yeah, well, he doesn't own a computer, or play video games, or play guitar, or anything that I know of that would normally be associated with the development of Carpal Tunnel, and by his own admission when he found out about it, he told his doctor that the only real thing that could have caused it was his excessive, um, 'personal familiarity'. So, I mean, I don't know, but it seems to follow. I love him, he's my buddy and all, but it still seems like too damn much porn.
