Well, it's really just one or two who speculate and present as fact...
lol Aggie I'm just talking about one person I quoted before. Sorry came out the wrong way.

I never understood the point of mixing non vintage figures in a vintage collection. If its new and obscure characters you want, thats what the classics line is for. Its like somebody making the brick arcee or unicron prototypes for mass production. Its not vintage, so whats the allure behind making it a brick ?

An illegal fake that harms the unsuspecting buyer is an entirely different scenario to 3rd-party non-official transforming robot. Don't even try and compare the two.
I'd like these in my collection. Stylistically, they're a little off in a couple of ways, but overall I think they're nice. Its just a shame they're too expensive for me right now.

At the end of the day their both lumps of plastic that take away from Hasbro's profit. The only difference is one is Hasbro IP theft, and the other is jumping on the bandwagon at Hasbro's expense.
Also keep in mind when dealing with high quality KO's, almost all online retailers advertise them as KO's. The KO factories and KO retailers have nothing to do with the douches who put them up for sale on e-bay as being authentic. So you really cant blame them.
I don't really get into vintage collecting these days because I'm a classics guy. I just wondering how these glacialbots sit with the anti-IP theft crowd since it technically is invading Hasbro's turf.

Rated X wrote:I don't think you get it, do you ? Im not wondering how Hasbro feels about the Glacialbots. IM wondering how the Pro-Hasbro die hard "only buy official" crowd feels about the Glacialbots. Most of them seem to take a stand against anything that steals Hasbro IP even if it doesn't hurt Hasbro's profits. We all know the Glacialbots don't steal Hasbro IP, but the concept is still in a way invading Hasbro's turf. So my question is simple. Do the die hard "Hasbro only" extremists accept the fact that Fansproject is adding to the official fiction with new characters specifically designed for a vintage G1 collection ? Or do these extremists shun the figures because they are not made by Hasbro ? In other words, is it just about IP theft or is it about Hasbro's turf ?

Why do you need to know what fellow fans think? Who cares,do you need there approval? or do you have that much spare time on your hands or mind?
some Fans only care what HasTak thinks. Because some are afraid HasTak might start suing & preventing the selling of these 3rd party toys.

I don't NEED to know what other fans think, I'm just INTERESTED in knowing what they think. Big difference. The "Hasbro only" crowd is pretty hardcore. They are willing to sacrifice buying some pretty awesome 3rd party products to prove they're loyal to a company that they have no financial stake involved. I call it blind loyalty. With that being said, does their extremism only target IP theft, or does it extend to a "stay away from Hasbro's turf" position ? I'm honestly curious how they feel. There extremism runs pretty deep. They are missing out on so much cool stuff that Hasbro cant and wont make. I prefer a well rounded classics collection that's based on the G1 cast, not a particular company affiliation.

I take it this is why so many fakes come directly from China on Ebay? And why said fakes aren't advertised as being KOs?
If we wanted to start labeling Hasbro's "turf" as being all transforming robots, then you would have to rule out collecting Macross\Robotech toys. Or Voltron. Or Power Rangers. Or a vast number of other similar ranges.
3rd Party robots are just that - transformable robots. They're not "Transformers", really and as figures like Springer or Roadbuster show - if Hasbro want to make them after a tiny company that makes up for an extremely limited amount of sales have done so already, that it won't stop them.
KOs don't harm Hasbro for the most part. Unless its a toy currently out. KOs harm the consumer, who may buy the toy totally unsuspecting, ending up with not the product they actually want. Its harmed online retailers in the past, too - Encore Metroplex is a fine example of that.
However - I'm not going to get into this debate "in full" as I'll end up with a sore head from bashing it against a brick wall!

I think your assumptions of "extremism" are flawed, and I dislike how you lump the entire fandom into overly simplified buckets.
Rated X wrote:Well robotech and voltron are their own original continuities. But fansproject made the glacialbots to be inserted into hasbros continuity unofficially. Thats what I mean by turf invasion. Not necessarily making transforming robots, but shoving non official characters into official fiction.
