I use a custom Energon Shockblast. Once you replace the derpy satellite arm with something sensible and repaint it purple, it is a really great figure.
Also, TF Prime Shockwave, especially the Takara version, makes a decent Classics version.

i too am on the fence about this. not because of price or quality as i heed the abundance of reviews out there, but because i really have a problem with 3rd party MP's (specifically, as i have no problems with 3rd parties in general).
the official MP line has been home run after home run, and i can wait for hastak to make everything even if it takes years (and it will). but when you hear things like "they will literally never make him" thats the only time when ill consider 3rd parties for MP's.
but even then its just rumors and speculation. as luck would have it, the moment i decide to bite will probably be the moment hes no longer available.

Whatever happened to their proposed Voyager scaled Quakewave, I would love one of those beauties!

AFAIK, no further news on that item. I'm sure they have been busy with the change in priority of their Dinobot releases. I'm also onboard for a voyager release of Quakewave (and even their ditched MP Soundwave, if they ever revisit that project).

I don't know if they would have made more $$$ or not, they seem to have sold through several production runs, but I would have also bought one in Voyager size.
I still would!

I say that because theres a large number of MP collectors who only buy official releases. Quakewave was a good seller I admit, but the masses dont seem to be jumping on other 3rd party MP figures like warbotron or citizen stacks. And alot of people said they would have bought them if they were scaled with classics.

That's a difficult argument to validate considering Quakewave is sold out everywhere. That means that they made all the money they wanted to out of him and I'd be willing to bet they could make a lot more if they did another run of him.
That's not to say that people wouldn't buy a Voyager sized version for their Classics shelves, because I believe they would, but to say they'd make 'more' money than releasing an MP as they did would be a lot easier to swallow if the MP was still actually available for purchase from any of the retailers that carried him.

Let me correct that for you:
Wanting 3rd party TF toys to match the non-sensical scale of the original 1980's TF toys versions just seems wrong.

What's this "scale" thing people keep talking about?

It's not so much a "scale' thing as much as he just wants any new versions of 1980's characters to match the size of the 1980's toys.
