So it does feel like a downer when they didn't put up the original guys.

Btw, as I too am a "bit averse" to the Movie aesthetic, were the bas molds of the AOE dinobots any good?

With the expeption of one or two, most AOE Dino molds got great reviews.

I have all of them and appart the blue dino, I love them all.

Should have been "base molds" So their good huh? Again, seriously contemplating them.

Oh man you are in luck then. Because these are legitimately good molds and you wont be repeating any of them unlike the majority of us here. Plus you will get them in great premium deco with some exclusive heads.

In short, they are ok but most have a problem with their forearm articulation. Slug doesnt though, hence why I like him best. Snarl's Transformation is a lovely homage to his G1 self and I find that Grimlock to actually get that tail into leg transforation right. And Slag has an amazing beast mode.

I found a used AOE Slug at at my local used record store today. I held it, transformed it. I wasn't impressed. If you're averse to the movie look then I guess you know your answer.

Full disclosure. I'm not a fan of the movie toys in the strongest sense of the term.

BTW. The store was asking $8 us if your also thinking collector value.

Your call.

I wouldnt recomend anyone to get movie toys for collector value. The only ones that will be worth something in the future are the ones worth something now, like ROTF Leader Megatron. Even Junkheap has gone way down in value from when he was first discovered.

Right, because an out of the box figure, just over a year old, still on the shelves at some places - possibly - has collectors value

Generations / Platinum that use Movie moulds.

Postby RAR » Tue Jul 28, 2015 2:14 pm

The way the Platinum series and other boxed sets uses Movie moulds lately got me wondering.

Rather than releasing the same thing over and over (Like Dinobots) or focusing on G1 a lot.

What potential is there for curious reuse of existing Movie moulds - if they are sold as collectable grade can they use more complex moulds without some Parent's heads exploding in rage ?

I was glancing at what I had sitting about and a few obvious repaint (or reissues with a new head) sprang to mind.

G2 Colour Mixmaster
Longhaul as Landfill or in G2 Colours as Longhaul again
Mindwipe in G1 colours (with the fan bat mode added to the instructions)
Even Blackout as Spinister in Voyager scale might work OK.

It crossed my mind that would work perhaps like the set they did before with 1 Voyager and One deluxe in gift set.

It might be worth considering in the build up to the next movie or as a way to stretch the next toyline out a bit.

I know not everyone like Movie Moulds - but they are undeniably better value toys that some of the toys Hasbro has released in the last 2 years.

I won;t make any other suggestion here as I'm mainly mentioning it as an example of a format to sell things other than big gift sets like the Dinobots - or speculating on how the idea they used with Perceptor & Blaster might work with other themes ?

Are you in the States? Target online or Amazon might be your best bet, or maybe one of the online retailers. I think the sightings at Target have been very, very sparse...

Nice post RAR. But rest assured, Hasbro (Asia, at least) is still milking the movie molds that work with two other premium sets that came earlier this year:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK12084&mode=retail

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK12000&mode=retail

And they did take the movie mold turned G1 route for the RTS line. I dont know what the feedback on that was, can you spot the intruders passing as G1 characters here:

And here are two others, Deep Dive and Strafe both using "movie" molds.

New photos of Platinum Dinobot heads, with video and name reveals

Postby william-james88 » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:13 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
With the 2015 Platinum edition sets all revealed, it only makes sense that this line gets less news these days. However, fellow Seibertronian Bill_Stickers has dug up some excellent shots of the new Hasbro Transformers Generations Platinum Dinobots set featuring the Age of Extinction Dinobot molds in G1 deco. There has been a debate whether these were the G1 Dinos themselves (in a Generations update) or rather the AOE Dinos in a G1 deco with G1 heads. Well, this new review from MACULA brings even more mystery with the reveal that the names are the same as the AOE names. Hence, this set includes SLOG, SLUG and STRAFE. So is this AOE Strafe in G1 deco, gen G1 Swoop or gen G1 Strafe? Afterall, there is no other Generations Strafe so far. Instead of being anymore facetious, how about we just get to the meat. Below is a quick video review of this set still in it's packaging, as well as stills of the heads and some other angles to the previously seen shots, courtesy of Bladestorm of Ozformers.

Especially considering how simple they would have been to approximate; Did they even do a legion class for that line?

*edit, if I remember correctly they were too busy (not) selling the fast-action bullsh!t to put effort into actual transformers.
