My Grimlock (who I'll be using as Trypticon) is supposed to get here today, after apparently being trapped in Portland for all of yesterday.

Probably because the character was always Hot Rod in all but name and never truly Rodimus Prime. The original toy was released at the time when Hasbro no longer had the name "Hot Rod" available to use, and were instead using just "Rodimus" without the "Prime" to refer to Hot Rod. Such was the case with the original 2006 release of the Classics Rodimus mold, which was also used for the original 2008 SG figure.o.supreme wrote:I wonder why ( aside from cost) they chose SS86 Hot Rod as the template and not Kingdom Rodimus? Nemesis Primal wrote:Shopee guy put Rodimus back up, now calling it "Black Hot Rod" and showing what appears to be someone's drawing of the SS86 Hot Rod mold in a mix of SG deco and Black Hot Rod/Lost Light colors instead of the PotP stock photo they had before. They've also put up a listing for the G2 Mirage we know his coming from Toxitron Collection, but their picture for that is literally just a digibash of that color scheme on the Siege mold (it's still watermarked even) that has been around since Siege, so I don't know if their picture for Rodimus is 100% indicative of the final mold choice, since I doubt Hasbro is going to randomly revert back to the Siege mold for that Mirage.

You never know. They've certainly surprised us before. Everyone expected Jhiaxus to be an Armada Starscream pretool, but he turned out to be his own brand new mold.Emerje wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Personally, I'd rather we get a brand new Lost Light Hot Rod mold using his comic body design first, and then have that figure redecoed into his dark colors from the same series, to really get the look right.
That would definitely be preferred, but I don't see them doing that design without it being a retool of another figure.

Yeah, but with that toy, Hasbro went out of their way to say "No no, this isn't SG Roddy, no siree, this is totally a NEW form of normal Roddy who's instead a Unicron-corrupted version! Look! I guess that makes sense. I was just thinking back to the previous Rodimus Unicronus toy in PotP which was both a Hotrod & Rodimus Upgrade.

SG Autobot symbol here, no siree! And look! He's even the main big bad of our new Machinima cartoon's third season! Where he's definitely not SG Roddy, no siree; he's totally Unicron in normal Roddy's body! Why don't you give it a watch, eh? You might like it, yeah? It's the third season, yes? We pulled out all the stops for this one, yep! So why don't you watch it? Why don't you like it? Why don't you love it? WHY U NO LUV IT? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
