Why?

Because they are too ridiculously spindly with feet far too small for their mass. Yes, I know, throw the square-cubed law out the window, but even so they look like they could barely stand, would sink into pavement, and couldn't lift more than a fraction that, say, Super Leader-1 could.

If they would "sink into pavement" on those feet, why aren't all of our cars sinking into the pavement as we speak? If each of the feet had a surface area of about one square foot, they could easily support the weight of a car without sinking into the pavement.

There was also a version of Stacks that didn't come with the trailer, just the cab. That's the version I had.

I also had Psycho. Never really bugged me that they had "cab heads" They were robots that transfo... er.. go into robots, that's all I cared about.

I was exxagerating, natch. My point is the arms and legs FELT too spindly on most of them for a robot of any size over 1/12 scale...

I was not aware there was a trailer-less version. I had the one with the trailer. I used it to haul around my HotWheels.

I really really love Machine Robo / Go-Bots. Now I have 48 of them and I wish to get the rest. While I prefer the smaller "600 Series" overall, I still love the Big Machine Robo / Scale Robo DX / Super Go-Bots series quite a bit.

I know, the playability of these toys are a bit lacking, but they still just warm my heart. :x

That topic is more popular than I thought it would be! I'm glad.

Now I'll share the licensed vehicles.

First, the one I think is the most common, Zeemon. He's a red Fairlaidy 280Z He get one driver. His only fault is the eagle decal is badly made. It's the only one I remember seeing in my childhood.
Image
Image

Next is my favorite, Baron Von Joy. Appart from the very awesome name, he's a very nice and fully detailed Porsche 930 Turbo. The details go as far as the headlights and tiny logo in the front. No drivers are visible, but he's the only one bragging head rotation. He even come with a gun that can be monted on his vehicle or robot mode.
Image
Image

Another Porsche, this time, a 928S. Herr Fiend have a driver and he's a sleek black and evil looking bot.
Image
Image

Finally, here's an evil Bumblebee. Bugbite, a gun weilding Wolsvagen Beetle. Mine is a little worn out, but he's great. He have a driver.
Image
Image

It's funny to se that 3 out of 4 of the Super Go-Bots vehicles were licenced by companies that REFUSES right now to have their vehicle being licenced to be bepicted as tools of war. Bumblebee and Bugbite will never become a Wolsvagen Beetle anymore. Wheeljack, Baron Von Joy and Herr Fiend will never become Porsches anymore. Ah, World Ward Two stigma........

If you love perfect vehicle mode AND if you love the retro style robots, you MUST own a cabin-head Super Gobots. Not only they are great looking, but they are also REALLY CHEAP on places like Ebay for vintage toys. Even if you doubt, at least get one. You might like it more once you have it in hand. One less trip to the restaurant or theatre will be well worth it. ;)

They were "Binaltech" before their time

Still, Prowl's/Bluestreak's/Smokescreen's design floors Zeemon's hands down.

The design employed by Bandai back then has a uniqueness/charm that I don't think can be replicated today..........they feel more at home with the power armor still of Macross' Destroids etc.

Does anyone know if there's other molds of the Super Gobots cabin-heads, or repaints?

Somehow, Google give me just lists of random names.

Umm... Wheeljack was NEVER a Porsche. He was a Lancia Stratos in Alitalia livery.

On the other hand, Cliffjumper, Dead End, and Nightbeat / Minerva were all Porches, among others.

Destroyer is certainly not a Nazi tank! It's based on a German Leopard A4 tank, which was first built in the 1970's, long after the Nazi's were beaten.

I've got everybody but Herr Fiend, but mine are a lot rougher shape than those ones. The only up I have is my Stacks still has his trailer.

Missing an arm, though. Not sure on that one.

I just noticed something about Bugbite, it could be possible to use his design to make a large scale G1 kitbash of Bumblebee.
The only trouble would be getting the roof to fold more backwards to a form a backpack and fit a head in the empty space between the roof and the hood.
