Ok, am home now and have inspected the car mode.
I see no runs in the paint, it's all nice and smooth.
BUT
The paint on the part of the car where the right hand wing mirror is mounted is very thin. This allows the black plastic underneath to show through which makes the red much darker than any of the rest. There are also a few small chips here and there. I see general differences in red across may panels, you notice it at the joins, it's not terrible but I would have expected some care to be taken for something so expensive.
Looking at the underside of the car there are bubbles or blobs of built up paint on the parts that look like they will the shoulders.
Not thrilled at the moment if I'm honest.
Time to transform......
Ok, that's done. Only bit that caused head scratching was folding his backpack correctly. Some parts a quite stiff and need more force than feels right.
Bot mode is ace, no loose joints. Feels plasticky but solid enough. I would say that it is on par or slightly more complex than most Binaltech figures and that is the line I would compare him to the most. I probably paid about twice what I used to pay for Binaltech figures, maybe a bit less. He is very expensive for what he is but I'm glad I purchased, not sure if I will go for Red Alert though - not unless I find him cheaper.
No other paint or finish issues were revealed in bot mode. I like the accessories, I got the set of silver pile drivers and a coin type thing mounted on card. Wasn't expecting them so a nice bonus.
8/10 - had he been cheaper and QC had been used he would be an easy 10/10
