Let's say that Marvel comic is the only continuity we are dealing with here. Moreover, suppose that:

- Megatron is as sane as he's ever been,
- the whole Matrix stuff is out of the picture and cannot be used,
- bringing magic black holes out of nowhere is not an option.

So, under the above stipulations, who's gonna take it?

During the battle, the Furmanator appears, and causes a massive, storyline-breaking explosion that fuses the two together into a mangled mess causing reverberations through time\space and ending existance as we know it, unless Optimus Prime can die in the least convincing way possible whist using the Matrix and somehow reappearing in the final issue in the story arc.

Megatron would seem like the most powerful one, but if he wins there is not fun. Thunderwing must win...The relatively weaker one should win right

Megatron would obliterate Thunderwing, relatively easily.

I really love how most people here are totally underestimating Thunderwing.

He's pretty much on par with Megatron and Shockwave when you look at how easily he beat the crap out of Grimlock.

Here's what I think the two would measure up:
- Megatron might be stronger in terms of physical strength (not by much though).
- Thunderwing is much faster and more agile (mostly due to his altmode).
- Megatron has superior firepower.
- Thunderwing can take way more damage then Megatron thanks to his pretendershell (and he can partially regenerate).
- Megatron's blackhole tap would give him a quick win, but I'm willing to bet that Thunderwing could dodge it more easily then Optimus and Magnus did.
- Thunderwing can exit his pretender shell and attack Megatron from two directions at once.
- Both had the balls to attack and board the Ark, they are even in terms of courage/insanity.

I think that I'd give it to Megatron, though he'd be barely functioning after the battle.

Thunderwing would win in a firefight, but I think Megatron would take the hand-to-hand combat.

I'm not underestimating him. I've read the Marvel UK comics and am well aware of Thunderwing's capabilities. I just don't think, minus any special powers he seems to routinely get, he's a match for Megatron. The rest of your post I agree with, I don't think Megatron would come out of the fight without injury... I just can't see any other result.

WELL If your gonna take away the Matrix. then Megatron would easily defeat thunderwing.

Thunderwing only reached his high level or strenght/power in the marvel TF comics. because he posssed the matrix,put the matrix inside his chest & the matrix made him stronger.

Megatron has higher stats overall but Thunderwing is much faster and has firepower roughly equivalent to M. On the other hand, T has lower endurance and courage. T can only win if he blasts M hard and quick.
