MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Probably old news to those keeping up with motu stuff, but wwe motu snake mountain ring with Stone Cold and Hogan.

origins battle cat instock 1 per customer £30 plus postage at kapow, hopefully it means wave 1 of origins should be available soon (would be nice if we got the wrestling stuff to go with it)

looks like an exclusive mini prior to the CMON Kickstarter for the MOTU Boardgame. This is resin but the plastic game minis should be of similar quality as CMON is fairly decent.

... when the board game was anounced it was under CMON (usually they do an all in pledge, okay price and a lot for your money) but it's under the header of Archon Studios.

I'd have to do some research* as I'm a bit out of touch but they are Polish based (which usually means the minis will be awesome) but it aint going to be cheap and it will be heading to kickstarter before end of the year. there goes my time for saving up :( hopefully CMONs is still going ahead too.

European exclusive on the resin battlecat/heman mini

https://archon-studio.com/shop/masters- ... e-cat.html

*Archon used to be Prodos, they ran a little (re huge) kickstarter for Aliens versus predator and screwed most of the backers over. miniature quality was good, board game did make it to retail and minis were very pricey. I'm not touching it with a barge pole as I don't support creators that have conned and frauded backers.

MOtu is finally back at UK retail since Woolworths and 200X, well sometime in spring 2021 according to Smyths. Battlecat, he-man and skeletor from the origins line and they are now have motu megablox construx instock.

Cmons motu boardgame update designers diary:

https://cmon.com/news/masters-of-the-un ... -episode-1

Doesn't look like a date is fixed as yet and still unknown if Europe will have access to it.

Smyths is looking a bit random as and when, and what figures they will get from origins line with zodak, robot, Shera, panthor (unlocked), merman listed online.

Being into Neca, Boss Fight Studios, Storm Collectibles etc I looked into He-Man's equivalent. I initially thought it was the Classics line. However, a little digging brought my search to Mondo...

Image

So my question, if any of you own them, why are they so ridiculously expensive compared to their contemporaries??

I dont own any of them, but the answer is simple, Mondo. in comparrison to Dragon or hot toys though they could be seen as reasonably priced for 12" collector lines.
-Same way I don't understand mezcos 6" figures being £60-80+ compared to Neca etc

Hopefully the new line outside of origins will be more like 200X detailing.

I just finished Netflixs She-ra which had really good characters and was pretty good despite it not having a real connection with He-man/Motu, but some of the sexualitys changes were puzzling just for the sake of inclusion (not Double Trouble though, they were awesome) and a major letdown in the last episode tbf. Crazy how hard it is to get the dolls/figures and with most MOTU stuff, is overpriced.

I just assumed that if you're going for a 1/6 scale collectors line figure, the pricing would be standardised. Man-At-Arms, Mondo's newest pre-order, is £179.99. In the description it read "limited to 2000 pieces". Why???
As far as Mattel is concerned, they seem obsessed with undersupplying the fanbase. Be that with Classics or otherwise. I just don't understand their marketing strategy??

£14.99 - Amazon UK

£16.99 - Nerd toys UK

£24.99 - A1 Toys

The third one is a little less appealing. But that is a few Online UK stockists.

Amazon can fluctuate pretty bad on their prices with them sometimes being around £18. Kapows similar, between £16-18.

I got Battlecat for £22 off Amazon a while back os it balances if I have to pay a few more pounds on a one of buy of a figure. Plus compared to the price of the classics battlecat £22-30 is a pretty good price for it.

I wasn't keen on Origins Skeletors head but the deluxe versions with the optional heads are looking more my thing though im happy with the retro tv version. Plus I'm kinda wanting a classics skeletor over the origins to swap the head for the one that came with Demo-man. The darker colors will suit it more than filmation Skeltor (even if I prefer the filmation skeletor, there has to be a limit on how many skeletors one can have).

The Origins stuff just doesn't do anything for me at all. Aside from the fact NA He-Man was my He-Man. Origins is such a step down in design and aesthetic from Classics I'm not sure why it exists, after that line.

If it only exists to get a snake mountain at a reasonable price, win win :) but I'm going for toon accuracy, comic accuracy, movie accuracy, 200X/mythic legion detail... it's pretty hard for them to do a motu line I'd have no interest in.

But this one is only £900 8-}

For me, when it comes to modern figures, there is a line. I'll use Trap Jaw, as an example.

Trap-Jaw 0.jpg

The 80's Original

Trap-Jaw 1.jpg

Filmation/Club Greyskull and Classics Figures, respectively

Trap-Jaw 2.jpg

Origins Trap Jaw

In my eyes, the Classics figure stands far above the others. The Origins figure is barely removed from the 80's figure. That is a downgrade I wouldn't spend money on.

For me the tv retro is better than the origins even with out posability. Trapjaw was pretty goofy in the Toon and I don't think origins with its vintage toy look captures that. Retro TV can display with originals or origins so a slight advantage over classics.
Price £18 ish which is a bit more than origins for arguably less, but still better looks wise.

2e8eaac9a803aec4a8793bc6caa12b1b.jpg

Then 200x, okay so it can only be displayed with 200x figures and lacks the posability of origins or classics. However, I feel the classics is a downgrade to 200x. Price using the way back then at woolworths £8 which more than likely cost me £4 on sale.

Then with classics looking pretty nice, but not at £50 plus nice and would be absolutely great if I had all the other pricey numerous classics to display with. I'd probably even go for the standard over filmation for him, as the filmation colors are good but don't capture the character. So with that being the case, a slightly different take with mythic legions comes into play.
It might be a bit more generic especially next to other mythic legions who share the same armor types, but that kinda makes it feel more like the motu toys. No doubt if I had a dozen of the same type classic bodies I'd feel the same about them.
At the time at least £10 cheaper and was easier to get, displays well with classics too (I think it fits better with dolph he-man, not that I've got him yet). There is only a handful of motu tributes in the mythic legion line so falling behind is not nearly as painful though some of the prices are going to be just as bad if not more for some mythic legions.
I still think the 200x beats mythic legions!
Price £40

Photo didn't work.

If you have classics then I'd say 95% of origins is probably going to be pointless and downgrades for the most part (and problematic with scale) . It might be nice and more cost effective to have classics skeletor and then origins terror claw, battle damage, dragon etc though there is a few gems in origins that stand out, even against classics. Battlecats okay for scale, the others aren't going to be, but I'll take battle damage figures with spinning chest plates over the way classics did it.

Origins for those who want availability and affordability with backwards compatability to some extent, that and just toys at a more toy like price than collectors pieces/price - when the scalping stops anyhoos.

I must admit, I actually missed 200X when it was at retail. However, from that pic, he seems to have about as much articulation as the 80's figure? Maybe I'm just spoiled, growing up with ToyBiz and later Marvel Legends. But surely a line from 2002 should be a bit more poseable than that? Aesthetically he looks good though. A far larger and more detailed metal arm than the other designs.

I just don't understand the appeal with the de-make stuff that Super7 are doing. Be it in He-Man, Transformers etc Even for a lower price point, there isn't much 'action' to the action figure.

As far as Classics goes, I considered getting into it. Purely for New Adventures, as it is unlikely Mattel will ever go back to "Future" He-Man any time soon. However, the line stopped prematurely with the end of Classics. My favourite - Disk of Doom Skeletor - was not updated for this line and so my interest waned. There is a sizeable part of NA that was completed. Naturally, minus a single vehicle. So I might track them down.. some day.
With the great updates given to Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain. I would have loved to see what they would have done with Starship Eternia or Nordor. But that will never happen now.

Sadly 200X was 5 point articulation for the most part, not sure if you were spoilt or just indoctrined to pay the higher prices :P j/k

I'd take the old £5 limited articulation toybiz stuff over the shared body use/prices of the marvel legends stuff but not sure I would if I didnt grow up with them. Kinda thankful I did though as having a load of the old toybiz stuff stopped me from getting any of the hasbro legends stuff which seems pretty impossible to keep up with.

always crap when they dont finish a line :( I'm glad that they added to the 200x stuff with the staction line after they lost the toy licence. I'm looking forward to the MOTU universe line and if all toy lines continue to be de/re maked and by fifty different companies anything is possible. I'm not ruling out starship nordor or starship eternia yet.

I am kinda surprised super7 hasnt done vehicles for its reaction lines first rather than jumping in the deep end with grayskull/thundertank etc (ignoring the cardboard thing that was the planet of the apes diorama, when retro goes bad, it goeeeees bad)

just had a scary thought, if Mattel let Lanard do gi joe style motu (and I'm sure some of them would look terrible as much as some would look good) it would be another line I'd buy. I think I need to see a psychiatrist.

I notice that all the collector and nostalgia based lines, from Super7, Neca etc have shied away from vehicles. Even Hasbro seem to be tiptoeing around the subject with GI Joe Classified.

I've been missing a few figures from the 200X (not including staction) and was always hoping to find one in a collection/lot so that I wasn't paying a lot for her. I caved, don't think she ever made it to retail here and the voice chip version (if they ever did another release with out?) was a must.

Think I just have Panthor, spitbull and a replacement green version Trapjaw to complete them now, though I'm tempted for the fire/ice heman/skeletor. Kind of pains me going back to mass use generic bodies in origins or classics even if it's more traditionally motu.
Having said that kapows supposedly getting in roboto/zodac/shera/merman origins soon and if they aren't scalping that badly I might not wait for smyths to get them instock.
