Movie Transformers Head Swaps - Project thread

Motto: "Vampires don't *sparkle*. They burn!"
For the most part I found the movie figures ok. There are some design issues that don't seem to work as intended but overall I like their asthetic. The only thing I find is that they do not "feel " like the characters they are supposed to be. So I am determined to buy and mod most of them. To start it off, I've started headswapping. So I'm going to list what I've done, and hope to keep tabs on my progress here. I'll add pics as I work on them. If you have any ideas for characters to make out of these swaps, feel free to chime in. Some may be homages, but I may just end up making mostly original characters.

Brawl's Body + Wreckage's Head = Megatron (You may have seen my digibash)
1976 Bumblebee's Body + Brawl's Head = ?
Jazz's Body + 1976 Bumblebee's Head = ? (My first thought is Cliffjumper, but I'm open to suggestions. He may be the last project since I'm determined to give him real forearms.)
Wreckage's Body + Jazz's Head = ?
Blackout's Body + Protoform Prime's Head = ? (No name yet, but with some slight modification I think he could make an excellent Coast Guard chopper.)
Protoform Prime's Body + Blackout's Head = ?
Swindle -> Shockwave (No headswap here, but I did do the neck mod.)
Barricade -> ? (Gonna make him a fire chief's car, but not sure if I should go homage or new character)
Boncrusher -> Quickstrike (Sure he's not an obvious choice like using TFTM Scorponok, but he's so buglike. Thanks for the suggestion Retread.)

Small circle maybe. But once I started popping the heads off, I was like, "hmmm wonder what that would look like..." :)
Any ideas for names and color schemes is more than welcome. My first project will probably be the Megatron. Which is your favorite of the colorschemes in that pic?

If you want to make Barricade into a fire chief's car, you might want to wait for the repaint. It appears to be molded in white. Might be good for a Red Alert. I want to loose the police gear off him, and make a Wheeljack out of him.

Hmmm...now that you mention it...he might make for a cool Movie "alternators" Grimlock, especially since he has those bigass claws. Decisions. decisions.

Oddly enough, I actually really like the G2 colourscheme. Maybe it'd work well if the colours were muted down just a bit?

I am really liking this idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will use it.

Edit:
I think I'm going to make one of his extending hands into a robotic snake.

Was just flipping through the galleries on seibertron and noticed Quickstrike's head looks a lot like proto screamer's. Might consider adding him to your circle of swaps.

Pairs of Bashes might be an idea too.

You've got your G1 deceps:
Brawl's Body + Wreckage's Head = Megatron
Swindle -> Shockwave

Beast Wars Preds:
Boncrusher -> Quickstrike
1976 Bumblebee's Body + Brawl's Head = ? Terrorsaur, (or maybe inferno) kinda fits the body, but not the head really?

G1 autobot cars:
Jazz's Body + 1976 Bumblebee's Head = ? Cliff works here or windcharger maybe?

G1 autobot deluxes:
Wreckage's Body + Jazz's Head = ? RoadBuster
Blackout's Body + Protoform Prime's Head = ? Whirl (Guess this would have worked better with swindle's head)

G1 Protectobots:
Blackout's Body + Protoform Prime's Head = ? Blades
Barricade -> ? Streetwise

Not sure where to fit this one?
Protoform Prime's Body + Blackout's Head = ? Maybe do this as another beastwars (rattrap?) and keep and do bee as an autobot homage?

Most of these probably aren't as good as my 1st idea. :P Some pics with the new heads might spark some better ones.

you don't need to modify your blackout because they're doing it for you. We're going to be getting a remolded blackout later in the movie line, as a rescue chopper, they are replacing the scorponok with a liferaft that turns into a gun, and giving it a new head as well. Its called Evac. :)

Yeah, but I'm not making a "rescue" chopper, mine is a Coast Guard patrol chopper. I've already replaced his head, so I can't stop now. :)

Begun work on the Barricade mod. I decided on making him Grimlock. Removed the light bar, filled the screwholes and sanded the mounts down. I also modified his head. I'll post in-progress pics soon.

Are you pulling all the police gear off of him? Removing that push bar leaves a hell of a gap that has to be filled in.

I'm leaving the pushbar. It makes it look quite aggressive.
What I did there is all the structural modding I think I'm going to do. The rest is just going to be repainting.

It does look kind of neat, but it makes me think of Dukes of Hazzard too much. It's the only reason I didn't leave it on the guy I'm working on.

Jazz's body + Bumblebee's head does equal Cliffjumper.
On the other hand, Bumblebee (1974/1977), + Jazz or Wreckage's head = Windcharger.
Blackout's body + Swindle's head = Whirl

I was also thinking of Windcharger when looking at the 76' camaro. For some reason, I think movie BB looks alot like BW Waspinator.

Minor update. No pictures yet, just rearranging some stuff.

Wreckage now sports Swindle's head. Looks a lot better than the Jazz head did on him. I think this will be my Shockwave. I've seen others planning to make Swindle into Shockwave/Shockblast, which made me change my mind. I'm hoping to do something a little less obvious.

Swindle now sports Jazz's head. I trimmed the ears a bit, so it folds under nicely in alt mode. They almost look like cat ears now instead of the bunny ears they gave him. This might end up an original character unless someone has a really good homage suggestion.

Adding hands to the Jazz figure is proving more difficult than I thought. He doesn't have enough room for anything much larger than the pincers they gave him. I'd rather not give him plug in hands if I can help it.

Started painting Megatron. I went with the G2 colors, only more "real world" (ie no flourescent green). I'll try to get pics soon.

Saw the latest Blackout redeco into Evac, and I don't like the color layout. It doesn't match the pictures I'm seen of Coast Guard choppers. It doen't look like they even bothered to remove his missiles. LOL I don't think the Coast Guard is in the habit of launching missiles at boats.

I've also incorporated Dark Lord Prime's "mistransformation" of BB 77's legs. They make him look stockier. With Brawl's head, he looks pretty tough...like a muscle car should be. Still not sure who he should be--- homage or original?

Swindle into windchager should work pretty well. Like Cybertronian, I think the Jazz head fits.

Also saw this custom over at Tfans. http://www.l-workshop.com/gallery/Blades/blades.htm To give you a better idea of Blackout in coast guard deco.
