I did not know who Shadow Maru was until the Hexatron Warrior was revealed. Now I read these posts and I did a little digging and the Brave series looks pretty badass. So, they have figures in common with both Gobots and Transformers. Is there any connection as far as story? Does Brave Max have anything to do with?
Help me Sabreblade Kenobi, you're my only hope.
Here's a bit of my info regarding the Takara Brave toy line:
FIRST OFF: The same Takara company & designers that created the transformers toy line. also created the Takara brave toy line.
SECOND: It's worth mentioning that the Takara Brave toy line & the japanese Takara Transformers toy line, ran side by side each other in the japan stores from 1990 till 1992. then the transformers toy line got phased out for a a while & the Takara brave toy line took over. the same takara designers thats designed the TF toys also designed the brave toys.
In 1989 the last Succesful sales TF toy line in Japan created by Takara was Called Transformers "Victory". victory had a cartoon series, full blown toy line & ofcause a magazine magna comic.
Directly after Transformers Victory ended. that's when takara transformers japan exclusive toy line & cartoon series was in trouble.
in 1990 Takara created a Transformers "Zone" toy line that only had like 3 big sized toys. like diatulas, sonicbomber & roadfire. the brave toy line got dominated by micromasters & micromasters play sets & micromasters bases. apparently the "zone" pilot was shown to media outlets but no one like it. so this zone pilot episode got included in a TF Zone toy.
WHAT DOES ALL THIS HAVE TO DO with Takara's brave toy lines & cartoons series? All the cancelled transformers toys takara couldn't release to stores under the TF banner/package. got tweaked/remolded either minor or extensive & became some of the Takara Brave toys. some of these cancelled TF toys "That I think became brave toys" is as follows: (1) 1990 Dino-geist which has a 1985 Grimlock t-rex head & neck, the toy looks like a tripple changer 1987 Horrorcon. perhaps 1990 brave dinogeist was meant to be a "Zone" autobot who got revived from the dead & became a Zombie Grimlock. (2)Their is a new mold Takara Brave 7 changer, that doesn't use the 1987 Sixshot mold nor does it use the 1988 Quickswitch toy mold. my guess is this new 7 changer mold was going to be used as either a victory, zone or battle stars transformer toy. (3) Their was suspose to be a battle stars 1991 Rodimus prime fire truck toy that was suspose to combine with starconvoy. since the 1991 battle stars toy line wasn't doing great & had no cartoon series, the rodimus prime fire truck toy got cancelled. years later it got remolded & became a brave toy.
some of the japanese TF toys from victory, zone & battle stars got recolored & some got remolded & they became brave toys. like deathsauras, black zarak, diatulas, sonicbomber, roadfire.
it's worth mentioning that the Takara Brave toy line in Japan was being created & was in stores at the same time as the takara generation 2 & takara beastwars toys were in Japan stores.
At some point in either 1997 or 1998 the Takara brave toy line lost steam in japan. then beastwars in japan became the donimate takara robot toy line.
the takara web diver toy line in japan might have been the result of cancelled brave toys or concept art from Hasbro's trans-tech TF toy line.
Since the takara designers were creating some beastwars toys & some brave toys at the same time. I think the Takara Brave 1997 GaoGaiGar toy might have drawn some inspiration from some beastwars toy designs. as GaoGaiGar has rounded off body part, limbs & is decently poseable.
Rumors have it that the Takara japanese Transformer 1991 Battle stars/return of Convoy toy line concept art,toy catalog art & comic magna art for super & ultra magatron. some of the ultra robot & tank designs got used for the Transformers generation 2 1993 huge green tank megatron toy.
In the 2008 Transformers animated toy line. the takara designers chose to pay tribute/homeage to the 1991 transformers battle stars/return of convoy toy line. by designing the animated earth mode optimus prime like star convoy. then designing animated earth mode megatron slghtly like super megatron from battle stars.
Sadly their was no super nor ultra megatron toy released in the transformers 1991 "Battles stars/return of convoy toy line.
