No one official has stated that it "takes place completely on Cybertron".

PrymeStriker wrote:And maybe that's a good thing. One of the problems with a lot of previous Transformers shows (G1, Animated, Energon, Cybertron) is that their casts were huge. They couldn't focus on every character and therefore resulted in some rather poopy story (save for Animated. While I hate it, the story was...okay I suppose.)
Animated shouldn't be counted as part of the "large cast" ones since it got around that by have a selected main cast and then recurring secondary guests and supporting cast. The main cast was always the focus, so each of them got plenty of attention.

What are you talking about? Predaking was a fantastic character.
And it wasn't an "entire season", it was more like... three episodes and a movie that focused on him as a character. The rest of the season either treated him as a plot a device instead or put him on ice.

leokearon wrote:A cross between Prime and Animated?

Coming next year Transformers Primimated
That doesn't make any sense. Prime was already a cross with elements from Animated. This is just the Prime style all on its own drawn in a 2D format, which the final show won't even look like.

How is that an inconsistency?

If this franchise has taught us anything over the past 30 years, it's that death is hardly so permanent for Cybertronians.

I think they have hit a wall as far as design goes. This looks like a blending of Animated and Prime. Nothing more, nothing less. Not impressed at all.

Who has come back from death save Optimus as far as G1 goes? I don't remember any. And even Optimus's revival was lame at best ,because it was to appease the parents that flipped out back in '86 when they killed him off.

In G1 alone, over 30+ bots died in the battle of Autobot city alone and none came back, save Optimus. Yes, Megatron, Thundercracker, Skywarp, and the Insecticons kinda did, but that is debatable. I am in the camp that believes they were no longer what they once were when repurposed by Unicron.

In Prime, Cliffjumper, Skyquake, and Breakdown all bought it, and they did not return, save their bodies as used junk.

In the movies no bot has come back from death, save Megatron and Optimus, which were both silly occurrences. But ultimately, Megatron bought it and he isn't coming back. Not after losing his head and being torn to shreds by Optimus.

I have no experience with the Cyberton series or Animated, so not sure there.

I think you have this confused with Marvel comic characters or something. If you would have said that Optimus never dies indefinitely I could agree with that. Which is kinda bias, is it not? Why even kill him anyway? the first time in 86 it meant something. Now, it is to be expected in almost any series, taking way any impact it might have.

^ There have also been a lot of 'deaths' in the IDW comic universe as well, many not permanent. Basically, they'll bring back a character if they see fit, and considering OP is their most iconic character I'd be shocked if they didn't.

Looking at the promo pic again, anybody else think it looks a little Tron-ish? They've had that going on since FoC but this reminds me even more of Tron Uprising. I like glowy bits. They're cool. :D

@Shockblast2: You still cite examples of characters that have come back to life from the dead in this franchise*, thereby supporting my point that death is hardly permanent for these characters and Optimus being back in some form is nothing new or surprising.

* - Regardless of "how" they were revived.

I have seen a lot of deaths in the IDW stuff I have seen too. Do they always come back? I have only read the comics in the figures that you can buy now. I know Sabre reads those so maybe that is what he is talking about.

I agree with the Tron comment. And I am a fan as well! Definitely like the look, but I just think it has been done already. Of course, I didn't really expect something brand new, since this is Aligned.

Like who? I only said Optimus. Noone has come back except him in every line that I have experience with. And that is a joke, because he is the leader. Of course the leader buys it and comes back. What about G1 Ironhide or TFTM Jazz? Or Prime Cliffjumper? Or G1 Huffer, Prowl, Brawn (who died with one pathetic hit), Ratchet, etc?

I will give you Ultra Magnus. I forgot about that. You know what, I never tought of this before, but maybe it is because he had the Matrix? But then Optimus died without it? Uhhhhh.....

The point is, I would not agree that TF's are a franchise that is like Marvel. Where any given character can die and come back. With the exception of Prime, Megatron in ROTF, and Ultra Magnus in the 86 movie, no one has come back from death.

Yeah I meant to comment earlier bout the background art which looks freakin awesome, and tron like for sure. The art of the environment actually seems like the best part about the shows style that I am loving a lot. Hopefully that isn't just for the poster.

You also briefly mentioned the Marvel Comics, which did have plenty of characters dying and then being revived later on.

And regardless of Optimus's resurrections being part of a joke or not, those still count. Especially in this case that is about yet another of Optimus's reappearances. ;)

Looks pretty cool, so far it just looks like Prime done in 2D.
But I thought this was supposed to be 3D chracters on painted backgrounds. So either the flyers are a little confused, or these are really just character studies and the show will just use the same stuff from Prime with a few tweaks and changes.

The Prime design looks pretty cool, it's kinda looks like a cross between the Beast Hunters body, the Prime S1&2 body with a bit more cybertronian stuff going on.

Still think that Optimus is going to be the ghost advisor of sorts to be revived at an epic season showdown. After all, remember what Hasbro said? Optimus and Megatron can't die.

I will check the wiki out just out of curiosity. Thanks for the reference.

Optimus's rebirths are shameless at best. Why is it always him and not some other character. I personally would have loved to see G1 Ironhide come back, although there was probably not much left of him after Megatron shot him in the face point blank.

What do you think was the most horrible death of a character? Mine would be G1 Prowl. That scene with his face and him being eaten alive from the inside mortified me as an adult when I saw it again after so many years.

The look. Not happy. The idea, comedy is good, but comedy for sake of comedy isn't appealing. Seriously though, if it doesn't suck like TF Animated did, I'll be surprised. All in all, Transformers Prime is still my favorite. Also, where are Bee's horns?

Then again, if the Dinobots from the comic are in it, it could be good.

I'm thinking these might just be preliminary drawings created purely for promotional purposes. After all, the very first images we saw of the Prime cast on Hubworld.com features some cell-shaded 2D images for a few of the cast (mostly for the Vehicle modes and such).

Dead Metal's referring to the original press release for this cartoon, which claimed it would be "Blending 3D characters with hand-painted environments".

As for comparing it to the TMNT cartoon, that show is fully CGI, environments and all.

shockblast2 wrote:Optimus's rebirths are shameless at best. Why is it always him and not some other character.
It mostly stems from the original backlash the G1 movie received for its killing off Optimus, and how it was done. As for why it's always him, he's killed off so much usually for shock value or dramatic effect, and revived so much because, well, he's essentially Hasbro's baby. Writers keep trying to axe him, and Hasbro keeps demanding he come back. He's too valuable for Hasbro to let him be killed off for good, so they keep him alive as often as possible.

Makes one wonder why writers don't just have him "retire" instead. At least IDW had him resign from leadership back in 2009, having never returned to top command since (as far as I know, that is, as I'm still behind on the current issues).

shockblast2 wrote:I personally would have loved to see G1 Ironhide come back, although there was probably not much left of him after Megatron shot him in the face point blank.
Well, he's alive in the Headmasters cartoon (for reasons unexplained), so we can only guess that he must have been revived at some point after season 3 but before that series in Japanese continuity, at least.

shockblast2 wrote:What do you think was the most horrible death of a character? Mine would be G1 Prowl. That scene with his face and him being eaten alive from the inside mortified me as an adult when I saw it again after so many years.
The worst death? Well, the first one that comes to mind would be Optimus's first death in Marvel G1, in which he killed himself over a video game (seriously!).

Though, conversely, the best death that comes to mind would also be from Marvel G1, and happens to be Optimus's second death there, in which he sacrifices himself as he flew into Unicron's maw wielding the Matrix against the Chaos Bringer, destroying the dark god and going out in a blaze of glory! :KREMZEEK:

Nowhere does it say that this show will be "comedy for comedy's sake".

Not even Rescue Bots, the only official Transformers sitcom ever produced, uses "comedy for comedy's sake".

TreyTable wrote:Also, where are Bee's horns?
Prime Bumblebee didn't have horns in that cartoon. This isn't G1.

That's what Prime did. Combined CGI with hand-made artwork.

Likely just a generic piece of the background not meant to be anything specific.

Might not even be a car. Could just be a piece of the scenery.

Um, where were you when Transformers: Prime was on the air? Cuz that already mixed the Movie and Animated looks together.

You know, after thinking aboot it, why are some people upset about a more humorous and kid-friendly? It worked wonders for Beast Wars, making it the best Transformers series to date. And the humor seems to work well in the MTMTE comics. So why do some people have a negative reaction to it (aside from what happened in Animated I mean)?

Because so many people in this fandom are attached to these false memories of G1 as being the greatest thing in the universe, and as they've gotten older and mainstream TF media has continued to target a young audience, they see this as a threat to their interest in the brand.
