Optimus Prime ever destroyed anyone?

Postby Nova L. » Sat Jul 07, 2007 10:43 am

I tried using the search feature but it doesn't seem to be working no matter what keyword I use. :|

Anyways, I'm kinda new to the entire Transformers fandom. I've seen some of the series, read some of the comics, this and that~ One thing I've noticed so far is that whenever I see Optimus Prime in some kind of final fight with Megatron, something else ends up killing him instead. :O Out of curiosity has Optimus Prime ever destroyed/killed any characters from the series or is he reeeeeally too much of a good-bot?

I don't think so. Optimus is kinda like Batman. He just hurts things.

Optimus>Batman.

Optimus never killed anybody in the TV show, but cowsed a lot of deaths as Zombie Prime in season 3.

But in the comics he does kill. IDW he squished a Human!

In the movie he decaptited Bonecrusher in a rather brutal way.

In the comics he as quite a bodycount.

I have a question, was it accidental or intentional?

Accidental of course. Optimus would never kill the innocent. But he has a very high kill count in the comics, especially during G2.

I think "Have Prime kill someone and beat himself up over it" is a popular game that comic writers like to play.

In the old original Cartoon series, Optimus Prime did kill. He killed (the big version of) Kremzeek [TF - Kremzeek] and he ordered Galvatron to destroy the Energon-Suckers [TF - The Return of Optimus Prime part 2]. And of course he also killed a bunch of decepticons during his very first battle against Megatron, after Alpha Trion rebuild him from being Orion Pax to being Optimus Prime [TF - War Dawn].

The old marvel Comics also hinted that he had indeed killed in the past.

He killed one of the original cone heads in the G1 movie, it was just cut from it.

As I recall, he gut-punched Dirge, flipped him over, and drove him head first into the ground. I don't recall whether Prime was supposed to have killed Dirge, though.

You could make a case for Prime having indirectly killed Kickback, Shrapnel, and Thundercracker in TF:TM. Shrapnel was smacked by Prime in truck mode and then presumably gunned down along with Kickback and TC (and various others that didn't seem to be damaged nearly as much by Prime's shots). While the shots weren't fatal (at least not immediately), they did result in a mid-flight ejection for those three.

Prime shoots at various unseen Decepticons as well; it's possible he hit Skywarp too. (Bombshell was nearly blown up by Springer when he was lobbing mortars at Devastator, and is the only ejected Decepticon that apparently avoided a Prime beating.)

And of course there's the beating he gave Megatron, that resulted in possibly-fatal injuries.

THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! All of a sudden Optimus whips ou this HUGE knife!! He then proceeds to grab Bonecrushers head, and basically.......stick it right through the neck. Stil don't get why he didn't use it on Megatron.....

He weakened Thundercracker to the point where he was unable to defend himself against his fellow Decepticons.

In the G2 comic (issue #6 I think), Prime blew up Tantrum, which I found quite striking because you don't generally expect him to be so ruthless in battle. Then again, Tantrum's fuel tanks were probably ruptured (see his original TFU entry) so the Autobot leader may not have intended to cause this much damage!

He impaled (with his arm) one of the Pretenders rather messily and without a whit of care in the battle on Klo in Marvel #80. If that weren't meant to be a fatal wound from a leader whose only purpose in this new (again) existence was to end the war, I don't know what Furman & Wildman were meaning to say.

EDIT: I'm actually massively wrong about this... I just went back & checked... said impalement was courtesy of Grimlock upon Optimus' arrival, not OP himself.

Well, looks like I missed that.

Personally, I prefer a Prime who abhors killing, but I'm old-fashioned that way.

He bashed somebody's head in issue #80 of the US comic. And if you want to count #12 (technically Prime's body was controlled by Shockwave), he gunned down virtually every season 1 Autobot.
