Glad to have had a heads up on this one. Just ordered one as well. A killer shirt and a great cause all in one.

Definitely not my style. Im sure this shirt will please some superman fans, but it's kind of dragging us back in time to the era where all transformers fans were considered "comic book geeks". I would rather see shirts that portray the Transformers as battle hardened warriors.

Let it be known, I have nothing but respect for Peter Cullen and it's great that part off the proceeds go to charity. But the shirt's theme is just not for me.

I thought you weren't one to sugar-coat? No matter how edgy one tries to make them look, The Transformers are still toys collected by both children and nerds of all ages. One doesn't have to be into comics to be considered a "geek". :-B ;)

Well in this case Im just being honest. Superheroes are the apitimy of comic book culture. Transformers however, are now considered part of pop culture thanks to Michael Bay. Not everyone who is a hardcore Transformers fan likes superheroes. So mixing the two together wont appeal to everyone. Same with the Marvel Crossovers lines. Some might argue that Transformers are "superheroes" but I consider them to be aliens. That is, unless you consider Howard the Duck a superhero.

Regardless, pop culture in and of itself is at times considered geeky.

Even the Bay movies are guilty of this. They are pure bait for action flick geeks.

Besides, the whole point of this shirt is make Peter Cullen look like a larger-than-life person. You know, one of those "less than a god, more than a man", "living legend" types like how Babe Ruth was to baseball. It's not a Transformers, it's a Peter Cullen shirt.

I'm a loud and proud geek. Nothing wrong with it. Only thing wrong with some geeks are those that pretend they're not because they want to be "cool" to others. Friends should like each other for who they are ... your "cool" side, your "geek" side, whatever. Just be yourself! Who wants to be friends with someone who doesn't like you or teases you because you like Transformers? There are more important things in the world to judge people on than whether or not they collect a toy line.

Rated X ... I hate to tell you, you are a geek. I'm a geek. Everyone that's a teenager or adult that's into Transformers is a geek on some level. And there's nothing wrong with it.

Embrace your inner geek my friends!

Your point is valid Ryan. But wouldn’t you say the whole “geek” thing is more of a stereotype than a reality in today’s TF fans? The whole seibertron.com staff is cool people, definitely not geeks in my opinion. You guys have always been great friends the past 2 years and that is what makes my whole Botcon experiences so enjoyable.

But I do believe it is my job to educate those around me as to how cool TF collectors can really be. I defy every stereotype placed upon us. I think in this day and age, most of the “geek” stereotypes are as fictional as comic book characters themselves. And watching those stereotypes of the past fade away is a good thing to me. That’s why I get a little sensitive when fellow TF fans try to keep those stereotypes alive, blatant or indirectly.

As collectors, we can take a step back or a step forward. We can embrace the stereotypes that have dogged our hobby for decades, or we can rise above them. Lets dictate the hobby, not let it dictate us. :D

He bares no likeness to Superman. I don't believe being placed in a similar pose is overstepping any licensing. As far as Hasbro, the donations are going to the HASBRO Childrens Hospital. I think they'll be fine with it. You're right about Botcon though. You'll probably have it stripped from your body. lol How long before they hit Ebay? hahaha

Are these licensed by Hasbro as well as DC for the Superman reference? If not, I'm not quite sure how I feel about this...IP and all, ya'know. And please don't bring it around BotCon or they'll rip it straight off your chest!

Yeah, every one of us on this forum is a geek, no matter how ya look at it.

The whole "Urkel"-style of geeks that pop culture often portrays is not a realistic representation of geeks. It is but a facsimile of what people "think" is a geek. Even the guys from The Big Bang Theory are exaggerated depictions of the real deal made solely for entertainment purposes.

I mean, no one would ever look at, say, Robert Downey Jr., and think "geek" or "nerd", since he looks like a regular guy. And yet,

You can include Simon Pegg in the geek population: "Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It's basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating." Great quote from Scotty version 2.0.

Well I think this is a “glass half full or half empty” debate. It’s all a matter of opinion based on the ever-growing diversity among Transformers fans and collectors.

But for the people who believe “geek culture” should be embraced or preserved, I offer you a question:

If 1,000 people that are deemed “cool” by society in general decided to start collecting Transformers tomorrow, what would you have?

A. 1,000 new geeks

B. A generalization that Transformers collecting is starting to become “cool” to society in general.

Obviously, my answer is B. I think pop culture is as diverse as it’s fans. And Michael Bay has planted the seeds for Transformers to be “cool” for everyone, not just stereotypical geeks. It’s up to us (the fans) to nurture that seed so it can bloom and become a reality. Nobody should feel threatened if Transformers loses it’s “geekness” over the years and becomes mainstream. We all come from different walks of life. But at Botcon, we all have a good time and learn a lot from each other about so many things. That’s why I say, let the old stereotypes die. Some might think I’m a undercover geek. Others might think I’m not geeky enough to be a true Transformers fan. To me those are all just opinions. To each their own. Everybody on here who knows me from Botcon knows I keep it real. Hope we get a chance to hang out in Dallas and have a few drinks.

If collecting Transformers makes us geeks, going to an event like Wrestlemania makes people rednecks.

How about C. 1,000 new Transformers fans and this debate is silly. Dude, you're a geek. We all are and there's nothing wrong with it. Even cool people like yourself can be geeks. No big deal.

A. 1,000 new geeks

B. A generalization that Transformers collecting is starting to become “cool” to society in general.

How about C. 1,000 new Transformers fans and this debate is silly. Dude, you're a geek. We all are and there's nothing wrong with it. Even cool people like yourself can be geeks. No big deal.

(sticks head up from behind cover)

Do cool people go to Wrestlemania? :HEADHURTS:

(ducks back into cover)

If you saw some of the women that was out there, you might edit youre comment. =P~

Botcon brings in between 3000-5000 people from across the country. Wrestlemania brings in between 75,000-90,000. You do the math. Trust me, Miami was the place to be last weekend.

Though, on a related note, the term I prefer to label myself would be "aficionado". ;)

On a different note, Anyone got any estimation as to when these shirts start shipping?

I think once your collection takes up more than a single shelf, not to mention if you regularly frequent a site dedicated to toys, you're offcially a geek. You might not present yourself as the stereotypical geek. (I don't think I do...I usually get the 'are you in a band?' question,) but make no mistake, you have a geek side to you.

There should be degrees then based on the number of shelves (or rooms) your collection takes up. Personally, I'm at 5 bookshelves, an entertainment center, a bar, and 8 of those plastic drawer things.

I think the site said the shirts are printed after ordered and will be shipped within two weeks.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.
