They're giving me something that I consider completely inferior, and basically I have to "take it or leave it". I either waste money importing a figure I don't want, which I can either keep the main figure, which has no place in my collection, or I sell it and take a bath because odds are no one will pay a decent price for it, or I skip it all together and miss the mold.
Now, this? I find reasonable. Not just an "I'm angry! Garghablargh! HULK SMASH!" post like before. This I can work with.
I agree that we got the shaft with Hasbro on the Animated front. I realize it sucks to be stuck with a figure that will be wasteful and useless in most collections, I do. I've done it several times myself.
I don't like spending the money that Takara pricing demands, but if I really want the figure, and want to support Animated as a whole, then I'll do it. Animated was special enough to me that I'll do it.
Not everyone should have to, nor will they. Past a certain point, we're stuck, and we've only so many options at that point.
Razorclaw0000 wrote:Frankly I can be angry that not a single one of those opinions appeals to me.
It is my right to dislike the direction TT went. Every TT Animated figure looks much worse to me than it's Hasbro counterpart.
And as I've stated time and again, you've every right to an opinion. And I agree, the chromed Autobots just don't "feel" right. And you're right, Takara's versions do leave a lot to be desired, but you have to admit, they're at least doing something about the figures, when Hasbro basically told us where to stick it. (I think they learned from that, actually. More on that in a moment.*)
Razorclaw0000 wrote:I'm usually a really positive guy. I'm a near completionist. It's hard to get me to dislike a figure. I even like Battle Ops Bumblebee and the Power Core Combiners.
I'm glad you're able to find something positive out of all of this. This is one of the things about the fandom, lately, that has gotten me down. Everyone's always so negative anymore.
Razorclaw0000 wrote:Why is it the one time I actually dislike something strongly enough to call it out, I get the heat?
If you want to discuss this further PM me.
That's not why you received "heat". I'll repeat it 'til I'm blue in the face, you're entitled to your opinion. You were called out because the original post was basically "HOW DARE YOU GIVE ME A FIGURE I WAS LOOKING FOR!?" and now that you've explained it better, and with a rational mind, I can definitely meet you half way and even agree with you to some degree.
You're right that we got the shaft, and you're right that we shouldn't get stuck with having to spend more money, but we should at least make notice of the fact that we're even being given the option to buy, when Hasbro did nothing but take it away from us.
There is a big difference between you being angry and making posts that come across as nonsense, and then posts like this one where it makes sense and is reasonably explained.
Partially what angered me (and it wasn't just you) is that folks were overlooking the obvious part that no one needs to keep the figure to get the armor. Yeah, it's costly, but it's the only way (as far as we know), and we can't take a chance on Hasbro to pull their heads out of their asses and then don't do it, and we've missed the boat on the Takara offerings.
People were overlooking the positive side to this issue, albeit small, but there is some positivity to this issue. And some is better than none, which is what Hasbro has given us this time.
As for our discussion and the whole PM thing, it's unnecessary. I've said my piece, you've said your's, you elaborated and explained your pain quite well, and I'm more than agreeable on almost all of it. I'd say we can go ahead and put this up on the shelf and forget about it.
Now, back to an earlier point...
I'm guessing that Hasbro is telling the truth about reading the boards, at least to some extent.
People whined and complained and moaned (all reasonable responses!) when they killed Animated in favor of ROTF. When they killed Universe on top of it, that really set the fandom ablaze.
This year, however, they're continuing with the movieverse line under the Hunt For The Decepticons tagline and TransFormers Prime tv show, which will lead into the next film in 2011 (wow, a little over a year from now, actually. Geez...), but...
They're giving us back Classics/Universe in the form of Generations (And I think that name would've been the best from the getgo. It just works. And well.) so that'll make a LOT of people happy, and we're getting Powercore Combiners.
So, there's something for everyone, even if 2/3rds of it is filler line destined to disappear from shelves again, but at least it won't be another Animated fiasco where a main line was snubbed in favor of another.
Collectors, kids, and fans have HFTD.
Collectors and fans have Generations.
Fans and kids have PCC.
Truly something for everyone.
I think if Hasbro had started up a brand new line along the lines of Animated and got a show going, a huge following, etc, and then pulled the rug out from under us AGAIN, they'd be lynched.
They learned from that mistake, and let's hope it makes them better people. Because they need to improve almost everywhere.
