Question about pricing...

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
I am getting ready to sell my sealed BotCon 2008 Shattered Glass Rodimus on Ebay... thinking of listing him as an auction and starting him off at a penny, then just let fate take him where it may. I don't want to be screwed over though, so any suggestions on a reserve price? Any other suggestions on a better starting price or even a Buy It Now price?
Didn't several of these sell at BotCon (after 2008) for like $1,200 a few times or something insane like that?
Thank you for your time and input! It is greatly appriciated

For the next time, the Buy Sell Trade forum is a better place for this since most people there know about buying and selling. I dont sell transformers online since I live in canada and no one in their right mind is ready to pay more for shipping than simply buying from a US seller, but I sell other expensive collectibles of a similar price range that are more manageable to ship. And here is what I found out:

Adding a reserve price takes away any momentum or excitement of a bid. The whole point with stuff like this is people will try to get it for as cheap as possible. If they get told right away that its not happening, you lose a bunch of people. And some of those people would probably have been ok buying it for more eventually if the bidding got to a point beyond your reserve price but the turn off is to great for them to attempt more. Starting at a penny and having a reserve bid just looks foolish and unnatractive because you are not starting at an amount that the item can be won at

Make it free shipping. With big ticket items like this, its fun for a user to know that what they are bidding is potentially all they will have to pay. It also makes your listing more attractive and gives you an automatic 5 star rating on the shipping category of your feedback.

So thats what you do if you go the bidding route. If you want to assure yourself that you get the item for a price you are comfortable selling, then forget bidding. Just be direct and honest with the buyers. Look up the recently sold listings of what you want to sell and put a buy it now price at what you are willing to let it go for. Do not put a best offer option because you will just get tons of dumb e-mails asking you to give it to them for 100$ or something. Just put it buy it now for the price you are comfortable selling it at like that you get no regrets and you look as honest a seller as possible.

Best Offers you can set to have automatically reject anything below a certain price point, and I always do free shipping.
Still doesn't answer the question at hand... looking for value suggestions on SG Rodimus

I dont know the answer. So I strongly suggest you copy paste your first post and make another post in the Buy Sell and Trade forum where people more qualified than me hang out.

Somebody already moved this, so I don't know why they moved it here if BST is where this should be. I personally feel like that forum should be restricted to transactions only and not general discussions, but that's just me. I originally posted this in TF General, but I guess since it's about a toy that's why it was moved here.

Simply put...There is no answer! There's always Lee's Price Guide, but even if something books for $1200 that doesn't mean that you will find a sucker willing to drop a grand on it. That is the world of collectibles, things are only worth what someone will pay you for them. Example: He's a deluxe figure? I would give 15.99 tops on a good day as I have no interest.

Depending on what you have invested in the figure is what I would start the auction at...It can only get better from there, but don't expect full value.

I think you'll be hard press to get anyone paying close to that amount these days, as interest on Shattered Glass is not as strong these days. If you put it at auction without reserve I don't think it'll bring more then $150 tops, if that is not something you can live with, just throw it on eBay for whatever price Buy it now you feel comfortable with and see if you get any bites. Currently there is one at $350 starting bid but no bids, you can follow that auction and see if it sells. (I'm going to think it will not at that price).
hope this helps.

Yeah, I recomend keeping tabs on that 350$ auction. If there are no bids on it by the end, then you'll know that no one is willing to spend 350$ for it.

Ebay used to have a feature where you could search completed auctions, if they still have that you can see where other auctions ended up.

Still does but only the KOs have been sold in the past few months. I guess the best thing if you want to make sure you dont lose any money is to place a starting bid at what you are comfortable seeing it go at (like the guy who currently has a starting bid at 350$) and take it from there. If no one goes for it, then you know you cant get it for that price.

Yep. BST is for Sale lists, Wanted lists, and Ebay link posts. This is the right place for this discussion.

2008 SG Rodimus is still a $300 toy. Could go for less, could go for more, depends on who's looking. A lot of the market for SG is dead, but club/Botcon enthusiasts that don't have one probably still want one.

If it were me, I'd start it at $275, or don't do an auction listing and put a $500 BIN, accept Best Offers (hence a "probably too high" BIN), and make it a 30 day listing.
