REPURPOSING - What figures fill that gap in your collection?

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

Who would be a good pass for a Neo-G1 Dreadwind, not counting the botcon figure?

Image

Armada Thrust has a certain vibe going for him, and a similar face sculpt. The colors aren't right though:

Image

Energon Dreadwing has the name, colors, decent face sculpt, a Voyager(to go with TRU
Generations Darkwing, naturally), but is a boat:

Image

Then there's ROTF/HFTD Jetblade, who has similar-ish colors and a jet alt., but doesn't seem right(and I don't already have the figure):

Image

I'm sure in the annals of Transformers I'm forgetting someone....

I can't in good conscience suggest anything other than the BotCon toy since there really is a way to make a fairly cool, fanmade combined jet mode between the Classics Jetfire and Universe Silverbolt molds. The fact that this is feasible just makes all other suggestions pale in comparison.

Note I myself do not own the BotCon toy either.

You learn something new every day. That fan mode works remarkably well, and it looks very close to the G1 toys in that configuration too. Thanks for the tip, Sabrblade! :)

Hehe, yeah he could do with a few more spikes. I saw a green bot, some spikes, no confirmation of an alt mode, so thought, why not! :P

I've been using the Takara legends "Elite Guard" version of Animated Prowl as my "Classics" Groove. I can't wait to replace him with a "proper" version once the Protectobots are released in the Combiner Wars line later this year. :)

That is what repurposing is all about and why it is so much fun! One day I'll get around to listing all the repurposed bots in my Classics collection.

That's quite creative. For me, I repurposed AOE evasion mode optimus as g1 optimus because he looks very silmilar and the G1 character and is much cheaper than the super expensive Masterpiece toys OR the hyper expensive vintage 1984 toy.

Extra lists:
Voyager helicopter aoe drift as a power armor version of himself
Rotf legends class constructions as minicons
Cybertron exellion as hotrod
Aoe voyager grimlock as a smaller dinobot
Robot replicas frenzy as a generic decepticon protoform

Postby Duke of Luns » Thu Feb 05, 2015 2:34 pm

In another thread I brought up how Roadbuster and Whirl were part of Dorvack, and that got me thinking about the "other" Dorvack mech, Bonaparte Tulcas:

Image

Image

Review of the "Tanker" Converter, which you may have had as a kid in the 80's: http://www.counter-x.net/convertors/reviews/tanker.html

It's very obvious why this guy never made it to Transformers. But the idea was spurned, and I thought of possible figures that could stand in for him. And that distinctive cannon head made things difficult, until I remembered Thunderhead:

Image

The normal robot mode is null and void, ignore it. The tank mode isn't a proper tank, but when I get it in I'll bet the legs can be flattened out a bit to give it a more traditional appearance, even if it is an h-tank. And the third mech mode? Yes! Total Tulcas.

And the human alliance figure? Doesn't bother me, and adds to the charm, as Bonaparte Tuclas is a mech in the anime'. So while it's not perfect, it's pretty cool, and back when DOTM was out it was one of the figures I was interested in, and it'll be nice to give a forgotten figure a purpose.

Just look at all those lovely Deluxe scaled cars just itching to be repurposed into another much needed character whilst Hasbro has a tea break!

So I need...

Runabout/Runamuck = Nemesis Prime/Ultra Magnus
Devcon = GT-R Star Saber
Tailgate = GT-R Maximus

Does anyone have the Amazon Kids Day Hot Spot (the one that comes with Evac)? Depending on how orangy his red is, I'm thinking of using him as my Classics Hauler.

I would love to see Hasbro or China based factory put out a Devy green version of Grapple mould, that would be another character crossed off my list! ;)

I'm not collecting Masterpiece, although I do have a couple of MP figures kicking around. I use MP Bee in my CHUG collection as he's miles better than any CHUG Bee (naturally, since he's MP!), and he's in between Legends and Deluxe height, which works for me.

There's always Movie Mudflap unless you're using him as Erector:

Image

He's very yellow, but he's a unique mold that still looks similar to Grapple, who I don't have to compare for scale. And the Decepticon symbol? Well his TF Wiki bio does say he used to be a Constructicon, so he may not have had it removed yet. And it's not that noticeable.

Recall that the Constructicons were turned evil by the Robo Smasher, so Hauler was a member before then, and only left after the others became Decepticons.

Shouldn't be too hard to find. It shelfwarmed out the wazoo, as is the curse of every TF toy named "Mudflap".
