In the IDW Furmanverse the two primes that we know preceded Optimus are Nova Prime and Setinel Prime.

From Don's concept art we know Nova has both regular and super robot modes.

And in "Megatron Origin's" Sentinel showed off his "Apex" mode right before he was defeated by Megatron.

My question is should Optimus continue this tradition in some way?
Power master Prime could be an option, or something totally new would be cool.

If Optimus has to get a super mode, I'ld prefer a non-powermaster version myself. I think a new design would be a good thing. I just don't want to see Optimus using it as a crutch after it's introduced.

I feel OP earns the Prime mantle every time he overcomes the odds without UltraMagnus type enhancements.

Maybe he only breaks it out on special occasions like Batman does with is bat-exo-suit. He could even get beaten out of it causing him to go through a few of them for fan service.

I should think that Optimus wouldn't need one, but in this escalating war eventually perhaps he could have Wheeljack and the other AUtobot brains build him something.

Hmm, come to think of it, that would make a good story arc for Optimus. We've already seen he likes to outift himself with BFGs when the situation calls for it. With all these new technologies emerging he could worry he's getting behind the times and commission some armor for himself. It only slows him down in battle though, and after it gets beaten and dented up bad enough he finally ejects back out of it and beats up the bad guy without it. At the end of the day he realizes he doesn't need better armor/firepower to be a hero. Of course, that'll never happen unless someone besides Furman writes it. It would have to be less emo-Prime and more badass-leader-Prime.

It would be a nice feature. But then Megs would need one. I like Prime the way he is.

I'd rather Optimus did without a Super Mode for once...Ultra Magnus is the one is who's supposed to be compensating for something.

Super mode hasn't worked since God Ginrai and RID Prime. The problem with recent super modes is that the writers take away from the Prime without the Super mode to make him weaker so that the Super mode is used and seen more often as a ploy to get more kids to buy the necessary TFs to complete the Super mode construction.

God Ginrai and RiD Prime Super Modes weren't like that. It was more like "Yeah, I'm supremely powerful without my Super Mode, but not powerful enough to destroy that giant meteor headed toward either so I'll go to Super Mode just this once."

The way I see it:

God Ginrai and RiD Omega Prime are like the Saiyans going to SSJ3 or SSJ4

The recent Prime Super Modes from Armada/Energon/Cybertron are like Digimon digivolving.

So, if they can do it correctly as old school did then I'd enjoy it, otherwise leave it out.

Powermaster Optimus Prime is God Ginrai.

Anywho, Optimus stayed in his powermaster form the second he got it. He only deactivated it once.

And that's why I'ld rather Prime not get one. I luv'd my PM Prime growing up but... I don't see much of a toyline based on the IDW comic so much as the other way around. Furman currently has joy of writting a TF tale that isn't blatantly toy marketing ploy driven. If it were...

That limitation could kinda hurt the story... which i think is what Predaprince was getting at too.

just my thoughts on the matter people but when it comes to optimus prime , ultra magnus and their power up combiner form of omega prime, one could actually look at it as being a transformer counterpart to the whole super saiyan fusion scenario.

hell rid even had the autobot brothers going super saiyan with the whole supercharge bit.

if idw could find a way to apply that whole fusion brothers combiner concetp to g1 optimus and magnus then that would definately rock hard

I don't know what "super sayajin" is, but the whole "recolor powerups from some mysterious mystic energy source" is a silly concept I hope Furman never touches with a ten-foot pole in the IDW comics. :\

I'ld like to keep the furman-verse far away from the repainting power ups craze; Especially considering there are same alt characters walking about.

And any super semi fussion dance would require a major reformat of at least one member if not both. I liked that concept, but i'm not sure i want to see it on OP or Magnus
