Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

They need to go back to there roots and try to do a 3d versions of there old games with the basic objective which made sonic good. Like the greenhill zone, Dr. Eggman ect. The Shadow game was fun though.

but yeah their hasn't been a good sonic game since "sonic & Knuckles" on the sega genesis. Knuckles chaotix on 32X was pretty cool, though sonic wasn't in it.

Roadbuster wrote:Sonic's been bad ever since 3D Blast. Sonic was basically a fast-moving Mario game where you could go a little more to kill your enemies, they even had multiple endings. It was simple, you had SOnic and Dr. Robotnik. Now Sonic looks like something out of an acidtrip. There are WAY too many characters, we now have 4 Hedgehogs, too much story interfering w/gameplay, and the orignal stuff has been compeltely thrown out the window. Worst of all, Sonic doens't even go as fast anymore. And heck everyone fricken runs as fast as him. Sonic was supposed to be the only one capable of going that fast, it made him unique and enjoyable, heck Tails and Knuckles aren't supposed to be as fast but they have their own means of getting around which made them enjoyable too.
The best way to fix Sonic is to return it to it's roots. Keep Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik, and have Amy, Mecha Sonic, and Shadow make occasional appearances but not often. Keep things simple and 2d w/3d elements and don't let a dramatic story get in the way of the fun. The blue guy has plenty of juice but nobody is willing to take the time to really dig at that potential again. Now it's a race to bring out a Sonic game yearly instead of every few years where we have a polished game. I remember when Sonic games came out for Genesis, it was a big thing because Sonic was the mascot game. Now nobody cares because Sonic has been dumbed down to appeal to little kids instead of the general gaming populace like it used to. Sonic was to the Genesis what Mario, Metroid, and Zelda are to Nintendo, and what Final Fantasy has become to the PS, and what Halo is to X-Box.
So until Sega gets it's act together with Sonic, I'l sit at home, playing the only Sonic games I need, all on one disc, the very ones I played as a kid.
Autobot032: Actually Coconuts and Grounder were grunt robots in Sonic 2. Scratch was a minigame robot in Sonic Spinball.

I'd say that they were the better ones, although I wouldn't go as far as them being good.
I mean they were playable, but I recall piss-poor controls on Sonic Adventure sending me off the loop-de-loop sections when the camera pans around with no warning, and perpetually falling through the floor [and dying for it] for no reason other than having hit a wall.
Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:Honestly, being a long-time Nintendo fan, I started getting into Sonic via the GC ports....& yeah they have been going downhill. Most of the games would be fun.....would.....if Sega would bother to playtest the games, or even possibly delay games untill all the bugs are fixed, before shipping them out.
Oh, & as far as cartoons are concerned, you can't forget Sonic Underground.....probably the most craptastic cartoon they came up with for the Sonic franchise, whose sole redeeming factor was that Gary Chalk did the voice of Robotnik.

Apparently it's always been Dr Eggman in Japan. Robotnik was one of those cooky early 90's localisation issues.
The Jap versions were all set on earth aswell. Mobius (the planet) was a western invention.
Talk about setting us up to rape our childhoods.
as far as I can tell, it really hasn't changed quality-wise, but they have been getting a bad reputation from just about every credible critic, simply because they feel that if they give them a mediocre-bad review on a game, they should fix the problems so the next one wouldn't be so bad.All in all, can't really say if Sonic is going up or down in terms of quality, but he certainly doesn't appear to be much of an icon anymore.

What would be the point of putting it on the Wii if you're not going to use the motion function?
Just to clarify, your against the exact Japanese to English translations right? I agree to a certain extent, as he will never be Eggman to me, it'll always be Robotnik. But the Genesis games were set on Earth? Man, what a weird Earth it is, I prefer to think of it as Mobius. But it does explain how humans suddenly appeared in Sonic Adventure.
