Turns out this is an old prototype from a line that wasn't produced. New info from Reddit:

It's actually a scrapped figure from around 2011. They were planning on making a FAB/simple TF line with G1 style designs. It got scrapped and only that starscream ever got to the proto phase.

So Starscream isn't upscaled, rather that's the original which was downsized and adapted for Gen. Legends Starscream! That may have lead Hasbro trying to go the other way for the final wave of Beast Hunters. :-?

I wonder if this means that the others in the first wave of Legends were downsized? Compared to the later waves, they do feel like they were designed to be much larger toys. It'd also explain why they're all characters who are traditionally larger, while the rest are Minibots.

Yeesh. The "spy submarine mode" in particular makes some of the Transmetal vehicle modes look downright inspired by comparison.

...This is why third parties need to branch out from only doing G1 stuff. You have too many people trying to make their version of the same thing, it's inevitable that some turn out like this.

I don't think you should judge 3rd Parties based on BTS' example. They've always been on say, well... let's just say the lower tier.

To be fair, the soundwave version they based the figure off of is one of the cooler redesign attempts, it just fell... pretty short of guido's sketch.

Thanks for this info. It's always good to hear some back story on things.

Never cared bought any of those simplified Transformers FAB movie toys. Wouldn't have bought any of the G1 FAB toys if they made them in 2011.

Thought most of the TFP E BH toys were garbage. The only Two TFP toys I liked was the Weaponizers Optimus and the Ultimate Predaking.

Upscaled and downscaled imply that the toy is the same or very similar such as upscaled Beast Hunters deluxes from Legions. There are way too many differences with this unreleased Voyager Starscream to be stated as an upscaled Legends Starscream.
