Alt Mode: It's perfect. There are no gaps, there is great ground clearance, it rolls fine, it has added functionality with the canon/lazer accessory, you can store someguns under it very securely, there is abolsutely no robot kibble from any angle and you even have a fun easter egg of having the G1 root face detail in the front. The best part is that it is a vehicle specific detail and you can only see it in this mold making even that robot kibble homage not actually be robot kibble. For realistic vehicles (this one is licensed too), this is the absolute summum.
Robot Mode: I don't have any roblems with the robot mode. I can see where some would, like with the side panels, but nothing bothers me. The side panels add some width to that area and some fun ehicle integration I love in Transformers toys, even if it isn't accurate to the G1 cartoon. I don't mind that there isn't much detail in the legs because I marvel instead at how this lack of detail is the diligent use of reusing a panel from the alt mode and flipping it. I like that he has a solid back and the fact that he gets smaller at the waist at every angle is very interesting. It gives the toy more character and beef up the look of his torso. The wheels tab in the back is very silly though. While it is a fun way to hide them away and everything tabs in very well, it looks silly from the back. But it does add some mass that area and the profile works better because of it. The proportions on this toy are stellar.
Conversion: This is a very involved and satisfryign transformation that never gets you frustrated. Maybe aside from the arms when bringing him back to alt mode. I find it really impressive how the MP line has a knack for making the changing from mode to mode as interesting and fun regardless of what mode you are going to the next. It is mighty impressive how there is a ton of new robot mode detail with not a lot of the Van detail still showing and yet this is not a shellformer in any way. Many panels get converted and flipped and this is my favourite kind fo transformation since it minimizes kibble in either mode and makes the most of every panel and part. The legs are a lot of fun to Transform. This ir probably the second best transformation in the MP line after Wheeljack.
Quality: The articulation is great and there is nothing I can think of that is missig in that department. Same for accessories. They threw everything at this toy, even the kitchen sink. I especially love how he can recreate his discovery of the dinosaur skeletons on his chest. He also feels very solid and there is paint in all the right places.
This toy has a pefect alt mode, an amazing transformation and a very proportional robot mode. This is my favourite MP after Wheeljack and he gives me hope in the continuation of this line after my dissapointment with Tracks/Roadrage.

Here is a tutorial for those who want to fix it.

Not enough to actually go through the pain of having to take apart them shoulders.
koolkollectibleskhai wrote:The fix only takes about 5 mins, is very easy to do, and hides those ratchet joints nicely! I normally hate doing this sort of thing since I tend to mess things up. But this one was so easy even I could do it lol
Glad they seem to have fixed the incorrect assembly with Ratchet.

That's my question too. If this is a factory mistake, how come the L part is in the Left and the R part is in the Right?
I just did the fix, and I'm not so cerain it is better:
Specifically, when in van mode the panels (i.e. arms) extending from the shoulders are now 1/8 of an inch further back along the length of the vehicle. There is a mild gap in between the front doors and the first side windows, that I don't think was there before I swapped these parts. Given that the parts are actually labelled according to where they're found, I think the assembly problem may be with Ratchet.
In summary, I don't think that the flush square shoulder is intended as a cosmetic detail: I think it serves a a clearance buffer to bump the arms more in one direction or the other along the shoulder axis.
Maybe I'm mistaken here, but I think we should consider this a bit before everybody (potentially) takes their toys apart and reassembles them wrong!

But post promo pics, anyone out there with an actual "unmodded" shoulders?
Please post/upload to Seibertron.com
Mine btw came from Japan. Those for Asia(with the coin) are they all with exposed ratchets?

Because they are probably supposed to be there and it is probably Ratchet who is missassembled. Here is a quote from Goldimus Prime who did the fix and isnt convinced:I just did the fix, and I'm not so cerain it is better:

There's a pic a few posts up in this very thread that shows the unmodded shoulders!
koolkollectibleskhai wrote:If you look at all the prototype and promotional photos of Ironhide, the shoulders look like they do on Ratchet (ie. teeth on joint is hidden). So it would seem that the "fix" makes it closer to the way in which the figure was intended based on the design as shown in prototypes and promotional photos.
