If takara are going all in for this, isn't it possible they may make new characters for a sky lynx team?

Also, a long shot, but wouldn't it be nice that for the other set of autobot cars they redecoed hot spot into Inferno for the torso to make another new combiner?

We'll probably have to wait and see what they do for "Galvatronus" in order to better gauge how they'll handle Sky Reign. For Optimus's combiner form , they went with a non-1980's G1 homage to Grand Convoy Super Mode, so once we see what they do for "Galvatronus" (another non-1980's G1 combiner), we might be able to better tell what they could do for Sky Reign.

Well, we know that they are sticking to using available molds where possible - even if they aren't sticking to hasbro's teams (swapping bcop for o/p) - so unless the release skyreigns limbs with bcop - so the japanese fanbase can get the mold - and release sky lynx seperately under tav or something, I would expect that skyreign would come with his appropriate limbs.

I have to say, I'm not sure TT is handling the 'exclusive limbs' properly. I mean, I know the point is to get you to buy the box set, but wouldn't it make just as much sense to make a bunch of grooves and sell them individually through the mall as well? They would make a killing on them, especially if retailers like bbts could order a ton of cases and sell them to everyone who doesn't want the under-painted TT defensor.

They could do the same with blast-off too - especially if hasbro intends to offer them as ulterior limbs next year (and I don't see why they wouldn't, beyond not caring enough, or just wanting to move on) - that way they could assure themselves a huge return on the molds.

I can see it going either way with Sky Reign's team. Maybe they'll swap in Battle Core Optimus Prime as the torso for the second set of '84/'85 bots, or they'll release Sky Reign just as Hasbro intends and make another set of repaints just for BC Prime. It wouldn't take more than a few new head sculpts to put out the likes of Sideswipe, Ratchet, Bluestreak, and maybe Hoist for the "Battle Core" team. That's certainly less work than engineering all new molds for Groove and Blast Off, which Takara has already committed to for the Unite Warriors line.

Funnily enough, I could too. Then again, it's a real 50/50 with Sky Lynx combining. The real pinch would be seeing unrevealed pretooled heads for Galvatronus' limbs (as I suspect Firefly, Air Raid and Rook to have).
The resident Rewind... well, half of one :lol:

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

While I wouldn't doubt that TT would go the extra mile where hasbor would cheap out on us; aren't the pre-tooled heads already unveiled?

Firefly = Quickslinger

Airraid = skydive

Rook = Swindle = Hound

Or am I missing out on what pre-tooled means?

You got the general gist. :) But in the past pretooled heads have gone unused (and still are) for years. Plus, the Offroad model has a whopping 4 to 5, spread over 2 vehicle shells:

#1: Offroad = Ironhide = Trailbreaker
#2: First Aid = Ratchet (sketch)

That lead to my limit of 2 shells with 3 heads per shell, and Air Raid, Skydive (who are reshells) and Rook have yet to unveil their alternate heads, if any.

Alright, cool, I do get it. I figured since there were no other 'famous' G1 fliers, that they would go unused; assuming habsro didn't want to go down the slippery slope of doing a 4th set of seekers (not that I wouldn't say no to a set of them - gotta be the cool ones like g2 sandstorm, acidstorm, sunstorm, etc)

But aren't rooks altenate heads swindle and hound, I mean, they are reshells, but they require the same dimensional space, so, perhaps a better way to look at things is simply heads per base mold - with no quibbling over 'who came first' :-?

Plus, we're at the end of cw reveals (outside of sky lynx's wavemate - I've heard rumblings that demolisher isn't official) so, I'm not sure if hasbro included many more uses with them...

They could: RtS Jazz and Laser Prime have proven that alternate heads can still be included, and that they could be entirely new designs, not resembling anyone at all. That's right: SG Ultra Magnus' and SG Treadshot's heads are Hasbro-made.

Well we don't know how hasbro plans these out, but, cw is ending and the figures have been - mostly - revealed, so hasbro clearly didn't plan for 3 heads for every re-shell, so I think going by 'base mold' makes a bit more sense, and simplifies things.

Question about Devastator, should Hasui's involvement and discussion on the figure lead us to believe that, like Gen Arcee, Gen Devastator is a rare case of Takara doing the design work along with the engineering?

I wouldn't call it rare but more of a regular thing in a company. Kind of like the PS4 this time had more input from their non JP engineers.Other MP were JP based designs, though why DonFig's conceptual design ended in MP-01's instruction manual is also intriguing.

Don Fig's concept design art is in the MP-1 booklet because, according to Hironori Kobayashi, Dreamwave was asked by the team leader of the Takara MP designer team at the time, one who preceded Shōji Kawamori, to provide them with a prestigious sketch of Optimus for the booklet (if I'm reading the interview right).
