I think it's less realistic and more cartoony to have solid black in small cracks and seams. it's like cell shading. more "realistic" would be showing the cracks and seams as being smaller than the mold actually has them, not as giant gaping chasms where no light escapes.

Personal prefference for washes and panel lines aside, that wash does help bring out a lot of details that are otherwise hard to see, on that mold.

Me didn't notice this till lately, In cab mod there is a square pegish looking thing at the heels. Makes me think there was a trailer in design, maybe a future release closer to the movie.
