my favorite memory is as a child waking up every morning and watching whatever transformers series was on as a child from reruns of the original, to beast wars, to machines, and so on. and playing with my figures in the commercial break

My memory: I will never ever forget the first time I saw Transformers: in a TV commercial - may have been the first-ever one for Transformers - which featured a couple of cars (Sideswipe/Sunstreaker I believe) driving down roads on mountain cliffs. They then 'jumped' into the air, and using stop-motion photographs, they transformed and landed in robot mode.

Needless to say, my mouth dropped to the floor (I was 6 at the time), and I've been a fan ever since - all 27 years they've been in existence.

I guess one of my favorite memories was getting Jetfire on my birthday. My dad had just moved out and filed divorce papers on my mom. Money was tight, we were going to be forced out of the house by Dad so that he could sell it, and he was fighting paying my mom child support for me and my younger sister. Locked inside a glass case at the local department store, Jetfire was something I was resigned to only dreaming about. The morning of my birthday when I woke up to go to school, there he was sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me. No other presents, no cake, no card, just Jetfire. Nothing else has hit me so hard to realize how much my mom loves me.

My favorite childhood memory of Transformers would be when I saw G1 for the first time. It was so good, and it probably solidified my love of this franchise. (Sorry for it seeming kinda hurried, I'll fix it later.)

During the depressing early 90s, when Transformers as a brand was all but dead, my dad surprised me with set of Transformers comic books (issues 5-9) that he found at a sports collectibles store. Discovering a whole new universe of stories outside of the original cartoon rocked my world to its core, and reinvigorated my love of Transformers. I hunted down as many issues as I could, but it wasn't easy, and I only managed to snag about 40 of the original comics. Only recently did I fill in the blanks in my collection.

I remember when I was 6 years old, my brother and I both got Technobot Lightspeed in our Easter baskets! (My parents always bought us both the same figure cause we would fight with each other if the other got a figure the other one wanted LOL) We started out with an Easter egg hunt in the front yard and when we found all the eggs, we got our big prizes, the Easter baskets! Anyway, later that day, my brother accidently broke his and was upset, so I gave him mine! (Really wishing for a Technobot re-issue set for sentimental reasons :) )

Transformers had always been our main favorite toy and cartoon, and there are many birthday's, holiday's, and other occasions we were given Transformers, but for some reason that Easter back in 1987 always stood out in my mind! Our parents were the coolest! Wish I could go back sometimes.

When I was kid, I used to spend part of my week at my grandparents house while both of my parents worked. My grandmother use to take me to the video store down the road and allowed me to pick out a video or two to rent for a week. My choices usually involved either the Transformers opening 3 parter or Transformers: The Movie. I would set myself up in one of the spare bedrooms with a TV and VCR and watch in awe. I didn't have many of the toys but would use things like Legos and Hot Wheels to act out chase scenes and fights. Probably the silliest thing I did was take several elongated storage containers, stick my arms and legs into them and claim I was a Transformer, stiffly moving around the house and "transforming" into some sort of space car (I blame Daniel and his suit for all of this).

An early memory for me is when I was really upset around my birthday because something happened that I thought was going to effect my having a party. Next thing I knew, there was cake, snacks, some friends, and Mom got me Ironhide, Megatron, and Thrust! I couldn't believe it! In junior high, things like that were very important, and Mom came through.

Favorite memory would probably be a Christmas at my Grandparents. Unbeknownst to me, Santa Clause had tracked me down, even though I wasn't home (a concern shared by many young ones). Setting out waiting for me was a G1 Galvatron and Metroplex. To this day my Mother hasn't let me forget how many stickers were on those, but I was a very happy camper. This is also memorable because, while I was freaking out over my new toys, my sister simply wanted to eat her cocoa pebbles, it's become one of our favorite family stories. In a close second though was the year Santa had to spend a little more time in the workshop on one present. When we got home one day my movie edition (1986) Optimus Prime had arrived. I remember being so excited that I couldn't wait for my parents to get him out of the package. I also fondly remember driving around my first Transformer on a visit to an Aunts house, it was G1 Iron Hide. Man, I better stop now, I keep getting more great memories from my childhood, and this is going to turn into a small novel.

I have two that really stand out. The first was when my only nephew (I have two nieces) learned the theme from Transformers BEFORE he learned the alphabet song (I may have had a hand in that...heh heh). THe second was a Christmas shortly after the expansion of the first wave came out with Omega Supreme and Jetfire in it. My parents got my brother Omega and got me Jetfire; now, my brother was not all that good at changing the figures and my parents thought that Omega looked less complicated than Jetfire...which is why I got him and he got Omega. BOy were they wrong. I'm proud to say I still have that Jetfire- still mostly intact and only slightly yellowed from time.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I have to say my fondest memory of Transformers as a kid is one that is both a Transformers memory and a family memory. On August eighth nineteen eighty six my father took me at two years old to the premier of Transformers the movie at our local theater and my mother didn't come with us, little did I know that the only reason I got to see the movie on opening day was because my mom was at the hospital giving birth to my younger brother. So not only did I get to see one of the greatest moments in Transformers history but my younger brother and now best friend was born into the world on the same day. The only thing that could have made it better was if Optimus Prime himself had driven my father and I to the hospital after the movie.... :BOT:

My favorite memories of Transformers were the birthday exchanges with my friends in the neighborhood. I specifically remember standing in my driveway opening Grapple. Next in line would be buying my first Transformer with my own hard-earned money(not allowance), G2 Starscream.

You might want to reword that. The contest is open to members of Seibertron.com that are also US citizens according to the contest rules. I'm a UK citizen living in South Korea, not much chance of me winning.

Just to play along, here is what my entry would be. When I was 5 the G1 movie had just come out but I hadn't seen it yet. On a visit to my grandparents we took a trip to see a great uncle who owned a toy shop. My brother and I always got to pick 1 toy from his shop on our visits since they were rare. I headed straight for the Transformers and was looking for Optimus Prime, even though I had him, lol. I couldn't understand why he didn't stock him. In the end I picked out this badass looking Decepticon, his name was Galvatron. After, we went out for a meal with my great uncle and somehow it came up. He told me and my family that Optimus Prime dies in the movie. That is how I found out my hero died. On the plus side, when we got back to my grandparents I got to take Galvatron out of the box, powered him up and was shooting everyone in the house hehehe.

This is kind of long, but rather than explain it all again, why I love Transformers I'll just copy and paste what I wrote in the forums for Roger Ebert when ROTF came out. This should explain it all. I am sorry if anyone decides to laugh, but I hope no one must or has gone through any of this. So here goes. Thanks.

I will try to keep this short and sweet. I did not read all the different posts in here or from your original review, so I'm flying blind here. All I wanted to say is that I feel everyone has the right to their opinions of everything. I am no person to judge anyone, but for myself I would like to share my opinion with you. I am a true fan of Transformers. I have a nice collection, well over 400 figures ranging from G1 to Animated, even a few Japanese exclusives from Takara Tomy, as well as Knock-offs. I am a collector. I started when I was a kid. My reasons for doing so is a very deep seeded memory from my childhood, before the pain of my parents divorcing set in. The first Transformers I was given, was at Christmas. Optimus Prime and Starscream, my two favorite characters, obviously for different reasons. Optimus was from my dad, Starscream was from my mom. They to me, in a weird kind of way have come to represent my parents. Two factions on opposing sides. One the hero, who through all his battles, never seems to win the war, and the scared little child, selfish and cowardly, always trying to get to the top only to find out they missed it all. The only difference in this war is two small children were left crying alone, confused, and scared, not a bunch of robot parts lying around. The reality hurts deeper than the fantasy can make up for.
Yet, somewhere in the silence and confusion the war started to make since. I learned from an early age what hurts the most and how a fantasy life can help sooth the wounds somehow. I learned to both love and hate them both, as well as feel sorry for them both. The seed was planted in my mind the night the hero fell from grace, and the selfish fool lost all that she had in life, me and my sister. All I had was my two Transformers. They in a way were my parents. They embodied them somehow perfectly. I grew up holding them closer to my heart than I ever did people. Robots in disguise. My parents in Plastic!!! They divorced but they never left me or my little fantasy world. Like it or not, they became personal, every figure I collected became a family member. I remember the innocence, and the not so innocent, and I lived and enjoyed both. I have played the hero, and the villain. Optimus, now the VA pays my bills, I also was in law enforcement, until like all things it too feel from grace in my eyes, and I left. Corruption is a bad thing in a system that is supposed to protect and serve. How do you protect the innocent when those higher up, let the wrong go free for money, and do wrong to those in need, the ones we are supposed to protect. The movie character, Barricade became my favorite because of that idiocy, a police car with the true to the systems nature " to punish and enslave" printed on the side. I have been the scared little coward too, when the going was too tough, until I learned that sometimes you have to fight. I did have an unencouraging word to help me reach that understanding. I came home bloody after getting my butt kicked by the school bully, my dad took one look at me and said, "Boy, the next time you get off that bus bloody and you didn't fight back I'll beat you 10 times harder than that kid ever thought about beating you." Needless to say, I fought back every time. I grew up loving and hating them, both my parents and Transformers, ironically, both for the same reasons. Dad (Optimus) for trying always to be right and just, and fighting with honor a race he could never truly win, Mom (Starscream) for being the con-artist trying to sell water as wine, and willing to loose it all for a step up the ringer. I respect them both for that, and my parents for the same reason, polar opposites. I hated them too though, Dad (Optimus) for trying so hard and yet never coming out on top ( thought it was better to quit trying so hard, and for his thinking and acting like he was better than the rest), Mom (Starscream) for being more than willing to give it all up out of foolish pride and ill thought out desire. Hero both, Cowards both. Equals both, yet too young and immature then to realize the price their war caused their children to pay. If this would have been the G1 cartoon (except for the cartoon movie) no one would of seriously been hurt, emotionally or other wise. Remember, they never died and always came back the next episode bright and shiny, without scars. So anyway, I grew up, I matured, I gained understanding from both, though me and Mom talk the most, because she wants back what she lost, though it will never be the same. I learned something about humanity though, we all are both, we all have been both, so why judge. Love them anyway for their goods and their bads, isn't that what a hero does? I believe so. Yes, I love Transformers and my parents! I'd give my life for my parents though, they deserve that at least perfect or not. I'd probably die over my collection. I love them like family even if they are plastic and a fantasy. Yes, like my mom, I was deeply touched in the first movie, when my hero rose up out of the swimming pool and I saw him for the first time in "live action".
I was moved deeply, I stirred inside to the memories of my childhood, to that Christmas before the war. I would never give that moment back, regardless if I liked the movie or not. I did of course, It's Transformers. As for this movie, I enjoyed it I guess, I would of seen it anyway even if everyone in the world said it sucked, that's just me. But I will admit, that it hurt, to hear the language from the heroes, foul as it was. Ironhide I guess shocked me, the Twins killed me, but I still found them amusing despite the language, the hunchback like faces and two huge teeth one plated gold. Two brothers always horse playing, trying to best the other. The actors were okay, but Megan isn't all that, my wife is. The part that hurt most, was Optimus dieing once again, out numbered and alone bested by those of lesser character than him. Though I was extremely thrilled to see a human earn the matrix of leadership that gave him back his life, and someone willing to lose his life to give life to another (Jetfire) and maybe an old touch of honor and training, as well as religious belief. I agree in some ways with you, because I wouldn't want my daughter to watch it, both because of the errors in general, but the language by all means. I have almost every cartoon series, and movie including those from japan, on dvd, and this is the first time I have found myself saddened by them. I thought the legacy would be a good one for my child, if I ever had one, and now that I do, there is a blemish on it to me. If I live to see her grown, then maybe she will understand it isn't right for heroes to act and talk bad, but this is the real world, and we all are tainted in someways, language most of all! Thank you for your time! Don't let anyone put you down. You have earned the right for your opinion, and so have they, but if it is just to hurt someone else on purpose, they need to keep it to themselves. If they think they have to share, they should say it to themselves why they are staring themselves in the mirror. They are just as flawed and hypocritical, scared and cowardly, heroic and brave, as everyone else on this planet. Have a good night. Again I appreciate your time. Thank you.
Sincerely, John
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

My favorite childhood memory of Transformers was the first time my dad rented Transformers: The Movie on VHS. My whole family watched and we all had a good time (though I'm sure my parents probably hated it, but they knew me and my brothers would love it). At the end we all danced to the closing credits music.

favorite transformers memory is the marvel comics! circuit breaker scared the hell outta me in the 8th issue and later stories featuring ratchet versus megatron, roadbuster the micromaster, and nightbeat cemented those characters as major player for me as well as made me realize the unique natures of each individual robot.

My favorite memory is the playing outside after seeing the original animated Transformers movie. I kept singing "The Touch" no matter what game/toys my friends and I were playing with...

1984 was the year of toys. My sister wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll with red pig tails and my mom had everyone and the dog looking for one. I wanted a Transformer and I was told that a) I was too old for toys (I was 10 at the time) and b) Transformers were for boys. A year later I found a very beat up Jazz and Wheeljack at a garage sale that my mother was fond of dragging us around to, and I spent my $3 and got my first two Transformers with my mom complaining the entire time. I still have them (and a lot more now), and Jazz and Wheeljack and I had a lot of adventures growing up. I was always afraid mom would throw them out when I wasn't looking. Transformers aren't just for boys!

My favorite memory is when I was in the third grade, around 1984 Transformers had just come out here and if you had some you were sooo popular. My best friend at the time had most of the major ones ie Optimus, Megatron, Omega Supreme, Devastator, Superion, Menasor etc. Whenever I went to his house that is what I wanted to play with first
