Why?
Just can't fathom why it's okay and acceptable to buy this set of Six over sized TW Throttlebots toys. that form a over sized combiner bigger than MMC Predaking and MT Devastator. Yet it's wrong for others to buy their bigger class TF toys like Masterpices. And anything in the CHUG and 3rd party TF toy lines bigger than Voyager class toys.
5 out of 6 of these Toyworld throttlebots are deluxe scale so they are not "oversized" by any means by cartoon scale. In the cartoon, the throttlebots were portrayed as being normal sized Autobot cars. (not minibots that reach Primes knees in height) Wideload gets a free pass because he is a Hummer and formerly a mining dump truck, both bigger than small concept cars.
First of all you have to acknowledge that most CHUG collectors prefer anime/cartoon scale where most characters are the same height. They prefer cartoon scale because in general CHUG robot modes tend to lean more towards cartoon accuracy. Since the CHUG lines are so big with hundreds of characters, scale becomes very important because you can actually recreate your favorite scenes or factions from the G1 cartoon.
Large stand alone figures totally disregard cartoon scale making displays an eyesore. I mean who really wants Megatron to be the same height as Jetfire or a combiner? The only reason MP scale figures are becoming popular is because now there are enough of them to create a display that is close to the cartoon scale. People like displays because they look cool. Adults dont "play" with their toys like kids do. So there really is no need for bigger scale toys from a CHUG collectors point of view. Playability is not a factor that matters to many of us. Oversized figures are more of a novelty reserved for our favorite characters. I call them "coffee table figures" because they dont fit in with my didplay due to scale. But they do make great conversation pieces for your living room or man cave.
I can only speak for myself, but Im hoping you get the jist of why oversized figures arent that popular among CHUG collectors. Cartoon scale is what has kept me collecting all these years. If the figures were all kinds of crazy random sizes, I would have never gotten into collecting. I would have just bought my top 3 favorite characters and called it a day. Scale harmony is a tremendous marketing strategy. It makes you want to buy more because they dont just look good, they look good together.
