Sadly, no. I didn't get home from work to see the news until after the link was dead.Seibertron wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Movie 1 Leader Optimus had those same faults, yet he was well received back when he came out.GuyIncognito wrote:He has big pants and a huge backpack; things that might be forgivable on a Deluxe or Voyager, but not a Leader,
Not everyone has to like this toy. More for you and me Sabrblade. Were you able to pre-order it yesterday?

I do think it looks odd that the smokestacks aren't chromed but I'm hoping that is an error with the official product images and/or early prototypes.

7 years ago, we didn't mind because we had not yet seen the superior ROTF Leader-class OP. The bar has been raised since then. I think it's fair and reasonable to expect a new $60 figure to at least measure up to the $45 one released five years ago.

Not even the same people who worked on the pre-2014 Prime Beast Hunters toys. Aaron Archer's gone, Rik Alvarez is gone, Joe Kyde is gone, Eric Siebenaler is gone, etc. etc.
The first toys we've seen to come out of this new design team are the 2014 upscaled Cyberverse Beast Hunters toys (all the recent Generations were designed by the old team), so there's no way to say for certain that this team has the same level of capability as the old team. Hasbro might have even brought in these people because of their ability to make simpler designs.
Even though it's still the same company behind these toys as the one behind the toys of yesteryears, the inmates are no longer running the asylum.
Not in the least, because a lot of those lines you mention had really GOOD quality stuff.Tsutsukakushi wrote:Did you ever ponder,Hasbro let go all of those guys due to there terrible jobs on these TF toy lines.DOTM,TFA,Kreo,Rescuebots,TFP,BH, Constructbots.

I agree. A simple toy can still be of good quality and playability so long as it isn't "too" simple.Tsutsukakushi wrote:Simplier isn't a bad thing,if it only affects the transformations. Do you know what the last completely original TF designs Takara made on their own without any input from Hasbro were? The Swordbots and Optimus Exprime from Transformers Go!, and look at the kind of reception those get.Tsutsukakushi wrote:The Takara TF designers are the masterminds. They don't needs Hasbro's team. DOTM's biggest fault was the MechTech stuff, but the figures themselves were not too shabby.
Animated... WHAT IS THAT DOING HERE?! Animated had a FANTASTIC toyline! Say what you want about the aesthetic, but nearly every one of those figures was spot-on show-accurate and loaded with articulation and features. That line was a winner!
Kre-O's a different department from the main lines.
Prime's only really bad figure was Deluxe Airachnid.
Prime Beast Hunters toys were just as good as, if not better than, the PRID line toys.
Like Kre-O, Construct-Bots is a different thing. So, the people who made Springer, Sandstorm, Trailcutter/Hoist, Waspinator, Skids, Metroplex, and more all deserved the boot just because of a few past misses?Tsutsukakushi wrote:Classics,RTS,Generations biggest negative. AEC was a joint-effort between both teams. The only big difference between how those toy designs were made vs the movie/Animated/Prime lines was that for the AEC lines, Hasbro and Takara worked from a vehicle mode design first to start with before figuring out how the robot modes would look. Whereas nowadays it is the opposite, with groups like ILM or Hasbro Studios first creating robot mode designs and then working backwards to first those designs into workable altmodes.
With Masterpiece, Takara works with the using the original Generation 1 cartoon animation models, which were created decades ago and are not original designs.
Binaltech was a similar process to Masterpiece only with using real life vehicles as a base instead of cartoon sketches.
The only TF toylines that Takara has created brand new originally-designed molds for without any input from Hasbro or external existing media were Victory, Zone, Return of Convoy, Gattai Daisakusen, Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, Car Robots, Cap Bots, and Go!.

The figure appeared as a pre-order on Amazon last week and quick sold out. This image gives us a nice comparison with the last Leader Class Movie Universe Optimus Prime mold and the MP-10 Optimus Prime. Check out the mirrored image below. For those who managed to get a pre-order in before the figure sold out, this figure will supposedly ship with the next couple of weeks.
